The Effects of Nano Fillers on Space Charge Distribution in Cross-Linked Polyethylene

    Get PDF
The performance of polymeric insulation will be distorted by the accumulation of space charge. This will lead to local electric field enhancement within the insulation material that can cause degradation and electrical breakdown. The introduction of nanofillers in the insulation material is expected to reduce the space charge effect. However, there is a need to analyze potential nanofillers to determine the best option. Therefore, the objective of this research work is to examine two types of nanofillers for Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE); Zinc Oxide (ZnO) and Acrylic (PA40). The effects of these nanofillers were measured using the Pulsed-Electro Acoustic (PEA) method. The development of space charge is observed at three different DC voltage levels in room temperature. The results show that hetero charge distribution is dominant in pure XLPE materials. The use of both nanofiller types have significant effect in decreasing the space charge accumulation. With nanofillers, the charge profile changed to homo-charge distribution, suppressing the space charge formation. Comparisonbetween both the nanofillers show that PA40 has better suppression performance than ZnO

Does currency wealth or substitiution effect matters? recent evidence from money demand in China

    Get PDF
This study investigates the stability of money demand function for China, using an innovation ARDL framework for co-integration test for the time period 1986-2018. Specifically, this study used narrow money (M1) and broad money (M2) as a measurement of money. To consider currency wealth and substitution effects, the estimated money demand model includes the real effective exchange rate in addition to income and interest rate. By incorporating the CUSUM and CUSUMSQ tests for stability in conjunction with co-integration analysis, the results confirm that there exists a stable long-run relationship for narrow money demand function. Importantly, the finding also discovers that real effective exchange rate appears to have a significant substitution effect on narrow money demand, which its omission can lead to biased result and misspecifications in the money demand function. This further corroborates that narrow money, (M1) act as a better measurement, which may have systematic influence on the trend of monetary aggregates

The closure of Higher Education Institutions and Schools due to COVID-19 pandemic has affected the structure of Learning and Teaching (T&L) from direct method at institutions to Open and Distance Education (ODE) completely. All face-to-face T&L activities are not allowed except for certain categories of students who need to return to campus in stages to participante in T&L activities in full compliance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by prioritizing safety measures and social distancing. This study used a quantitative approach by using online questionnaire as instrument (google form). A total of 73 Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) students from various backgrounds of respondents participated in the study. The findings of the study showed that there was a strong correlation between the aspects of interest and gender of TVE students in using learning videos during the COVID-19 pandemic period (r = .701). Therefore, all parties must prepare to face the new norm, namely the ODL method as a whole during the COVID-19 pandemic period to continue the T&L process for students

Introduction Vibrio species has shown one of the most important bacterial diseases in marine cultured organisms, affecting a large number of species of fish and shellfish. Among well known species is Vibrio parahaemolyticus which associated with cockle and reported as one of the important foodborne diseases in developing countries. Objectives The study was conducted to determine the microbiology quality of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in cockles (Anadaragranosa) in Selangor, Perak, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. Methods A total of 12 cockle samples were purchased from wet market throughout 3 weeks in September 2009. Out of the 12 cockle samples, 120 isolates were randomly produced and tested for microbiology quality of V. parahaemolyticus by growing onto Thiosulphate Bile-Salt Sucrose (TCBS) agar. Tentative colonies of V. parahaemolyticus were then examined for biochemical test and antibiotic resistance patterns towards bacitracin, vancomycin, penicillin, chloramphenicol, amikacin, enrofloxacin and cifrofloxacin. Results The highest mean colony counting value for Vibrio grown onto TCBS agar was from Melaka with 4.19 x 105cfu per gm, followed by Perak (4.15 x 105cfu per gm), Negeri Sembilan (3.72 x 105cfu per gm) and Selangor with 1.58 x 105 cfu per gm. Biochemical tests showed 75 isolates were positive for V. parahaemolyticus with 29.3% (22/30) isolates were from Perak, 26.3% (20/30) isolates were from Selangor, 22.6% (17/30) isolates were from Melaka and 21.2% (16/30) isolates were from Negeri Sembilan. As for antibiotic resistance pattern, all V. parahaemolyticus isolates were resistant toward one or more antibiotic tested with 100% (75/75) isolates resistant toward bacitracin, 99% (74/75) toward vancomycinand 92% (69/75) toward penicillin. Inspite of this, none of the V. parahaemolyticus isolates were resistant toward chloramphenicol, amikacin, enrofloxacin and cifrofloxacin. Conclusion The presence of V. parahaemolyticus in all cockle samples with their antibiotic resistance properties was alarming. More samples should be studied in obtaining an accurate view of microbiology quality and antibiotic resistance of V. parahaemolyticusin cockle samples in Malaysia

Shorter addition chain for smooth integers using decomposition method.

    Get PDF
An efficient computation of scalar multiplication in elliptic curve cryptography can be achieved by reducing the original problem into a chain of additions and doublings. Finding the shortest addition chain is an NP-problem. To produce the nearest possible shortest chain, various methods were introduced and most of them depends on the representation of a positive integer n into a binary form. Our method works out the given n by twice decomposition, first into its prime powers and second, for each prime into a series of 2's from which a set of rules based on addition and doubling is defined. Since prime factorization is computationally a hard problem, this method is only suitable for smooth integers. As an alternative, the need to decompose n can be avoided by choosing n of the form p1 e1p2 e2⋯r er. This shall not compromise the security of ECC since its does not depend on prime factorization problem. The result shows a significant improvement over existing methods especially when n grows very large

Improving total sediment load prediction using genetic programming technique (Case Study: Malaysia)

    Get PDF
Predicted total sediment load is usually used to identify the intensity of a sedimentation process. Currently, the existing available models to predict total load are mostly developed based on data collected from flumes, channels and rivers located in western countries. These models known as sediment transport model may not be valid to predict total sediment load of rivers in the tropics due to significant differences in the hydrological and sediment characteristics conditions. A new technique called Genetic programming (GP) technique is used to develop a new model to improve the prediction of total sediment load for rivers in tropical Malaysia. The new model named Evolutionary Polynomial Regression (EPR) model is compared with other three available sediment transport models using the different techniques including, Regression Equation, Modified Graf and Multiple Regression. Statistical analyses based on 82 data sets show the sediment transport model using this new technique perform well compare to other models

The issues of green technology nowadays give an inspiration to the researcher to make all the future design to be energy efficient. Medium Access Control (MAC) layer is the most effective layer to provide energy efficient due to its ability to control the physical radio directly. One of the important applications in the future is a video transmission that can be transmitted with low-cost and low power consumption. MPEG-4 is one of the international standards for moving video. MPEG-4 provide better compression and primarily design at low bit rate communication. In order to achieve good quality for video application, the design at MAC layer must be strong. Therefore, to increase the performance of the MPEG-4 in IEEE 802.15.4, in this paper we propose a cross layer design between MAC layer and Application layer. A priority queue will be implemented at MAC scheduling depends on the level of frame important in MPEG-4 format frame. A distributed Time division Multiple Access (TDMA) will be used for MAC protocol to provide reliable data transmission for high priority frame
