Introduction: the integration of scientific research and linkage is key for the contribution of universities to the solution of society's problems through the transfer of knowledge and innovation. Objective: characterize the integration process between linkage and research in the UNIANDES Medicine degree. Method: a predominantly qualitative and descriptive research was carried out with the use of documentary analysis and interviews. Governing documents, guidelines, and policies applied in the Medicine career were reviewed. Interviews were carried out with the coordinators in the program to search for volume of information about these two activities and the specific projections of mainstreaming. Results: a weakness was noted in terms of the management of the link with society, absence of a broader vision of comprehensive management where not only linkage with teaching is intertwined in pre-professional practices but also in integrative projects and the existence of will of institutional directors to create a true university-society link through research. Conclusions: a broader vision of the integration between the three key university processes is missing, only the relationship between teaching and connection is evident from pre-professional practices, leaving out the basis and genesis that knowledge-integrating projects should be. In order to perfect this integration, social innovation projects must be proposed where linkage and research come together, guaranteeing the publication of the results of social innovation projects in the internal journals of UNIANDES and in others with regional or global impact

The aim of this research study was to evaluate the level of knowledge about the human papillomavirus (HPV) associated with oropharyngeal cancer in dental students. A mixed methodological approach was used, combining qualitative and quantitative elements. The sample consisted of eighty-seven students from the 9th and 10th semester courses of the Regional Autonomous University of Los Andes. Direct observation of academic activities was used and a survey with a 21-question multiple-choice questionnaire was administered to assess the level of knowledge of the participants. Data were coded and analyzed using Microsoft Excel, using descriptive statistics to summarize responses. The results revealed a need to improve the level of knowledge in dental students about HPV and its relationship with oropharyngeal cancer. Areas of deficiency were found in the understanding of etiology, epidemiology, risk factors, prevention methods, and treatment. These findings highlight the importance of more comprehensive and focused education on this topic. This study provides a comprehensive view of the level of knowledge of dental students about HPV and oropharyngeal cancer. The results obtained contribute to awareness and education in this field, as well as to the identification of possible areas for improvement in the training of future dental professionals

Aim: Of particular importance is oropharyngeal cancer associated with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which has been equated in relevance with certain types of anogenital cancer and cervical cancer, including it within the classification of sexually transmitted diseases. Since dentists have daily contact with the oral cavity of patients, it is essential that they are properly informed on this subject. Material and method: The main objective of this research was to determine the level of knowledge that the students of the 9th and 10th semester of the dental career at the Autonomous Regional University of Los Andes have regarding the human papillomavirus associated with oropharyngeal cancer, during the academic period from October 2020 to March 2021. For this, a mixed approach was used that combined qualitative and quantitative elements, with a descriptive and applied design. The methodology consisted of the use of a survey through a 20-question questionnaire, which was applied to a total of 84 students who met the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Statistics and Result: The results obtained revealed that the level of knowledge of the students about HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer is considered regular, with an average knowledge of 38.94%

Aim: It is essential to establish the different criteria of knowledge presented by dental students regarding the risk of periodontal disease in obese patients who receive care at the Dental Care Unit of the Universidad de los Andes (UNIANDES). Material and method: The main objective of this study is to evaluate the level of knowledge of eighth, ninth and tenth semester students on this specific topic. To conduct the research efficiently, appropriate methods were used, and quantitative-qualitative approaches were employed, using bibliographic and documentary modalities. The level of research was classified as descriptive, with an applied research scope. Methods of analysis and synthesis were employed, as well as the inductive-deductive approach and the systematic approach. The study population consisted of 120 dental students, and the active and participatory technique of the survey was used by means of a questionnaire that allowed obtaining the necessary data for subsequent analysis, tabulation, and appropriate statistical analysis. Statistics and Result: The results obtained in this study reveal that people with obesity present a high risk of suffering periodontal disease, due to their compromised systemic health status

Aim: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological condition characterized by difficulties in communication and social skills. This article aims to present a critical perspective on the challenges faced by patients with ASD during dental consultations. Material and method: A study was conducted with students of the Dental Care Unit of UNIANDES to assess their knowledge and approach to the management of patients with autism, seeking to reduce stress and phobias related to noises and colors. A survey was designed to evaluate the students' level of knowledge about the proper management of autistic patients, addressing topics such as collaboration, different levels of autism, common oral problems, and behavioral management techniques. Statistics and Result: The results revealed insufficient knowledge on the part of the students in the management of autistic patients. In conclusion, despite the importance of autism in the training of students, there is a lack of knowledge on this topic that needs to be addressed through better education and training in the management of patients with ASD in the dental field
