System modelling and testing of a magnetic susceptibility device and effect of downhole in-situ temperatures on magnetic susceptibility

Magnetic techniques have so far been under exploited in the petroleum industry. Recently scientists have published some results on laboratory based magnetic susceptibility data for reservoir rock minerals which show strong correlations with key petrophysical parameters including permeability. However, such laboratory based experiments are not representative of in-situ reservoir conditions. Part of this thesis investigates the in-situ magnetic properties of reservoir rocks and minerals at reservoir temperatures via laboratory experiments to model downhole conditions. The shapes of hysteresis curves at various temperatures and the shapes of temperature dependent susceptibility (TDS) curves for individual minerals (paramagnetic, diamagnetic, ferromagnetic) were used to identify the type of magnetic minerals present, their concentrations, phase transitions and changes in mineralogy. For paramagnetic minerals, magnetic susceptibility decreases with an increase in temperature, whereas diamagnetic susceptibility is shown to be independent of temperature. Ferromagnetic substances can show a variety of thermomagnetic changes depending on the type of ferromagnetic minerals present. Changes in the domain state of ferromagnetic carriers with temperature were also observed, which either resulted from the formation of new ferromagnetic components and/or variations in grain size. Theoretical and experimental data on the thermomagnetic properties of reservoir rock minerals are also presented. A downhole sonde capable of taking magnetic susceptibility measurements in-situ downhole has been designed and tested in this thesis. Since the laboratory based methods have demonstrated correlations between the magnetically derived mineral contents and petrophysical parameters, the downhole magnetic susceptibility sonde can potentially provide in-situ predictions of these parameters. Model boreholes were prepared in the laboratory using powder samples and by drilling through solid blocks of rock. Tests were performed on these model boreholes using the magnetic susceptibility sonde

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Implementation Issues: An Empirical Study in Commercial Banking Industry of Pakistan

In this modern era of digital technology and continuous changing global business environment, firms have no other choice rather persistently improve their capabilities and enhance their competitive advantages. To get this objective, many organizations are now focusing towards adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) frameworks. An ERP system uses different sorts of data preparing abilities and place the accumulated information into a solitary database. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are very complex integrated systems. ERP implementation is a tough, lengthy and expensive procedure for an organization who adopt it and most of time it leads to failure. In developing countries, the success rate of implementing ERP systems is extremely lower than that in western world. Thus, ERP implementation success is treated as dependent variable in this study, it used explanatory and predictive orientations. First, it identified the critical factor from past studies then explain the impact on the ERP implementation success in Pakistan banking sector context. Collected data was analyzed using SPSS. Finally, results and discussions were presented. Keywords: Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Manufacturing requirement planning, (MRP), centralized database, Information System, Management commitment

An Investigation of the Relationship between Thematic Thinking and Innovative Work Behavior among Managers: The Mediating Role of Open-mindedness

    Get PDF
There exists empirical evidence that thematic thinking through the mediation of innovativeness impacts employee performance. We, in an explorative manner, went further to understand the underlying mechanism which promotes innovative work-related behavior. We collected data from individuals at R&D assignments of various organizations where new ideas and products are developed. A total of 295 survey forms were collected, and the analysis was done using the PROCESS Macro for SPSS in order to test the mediation model. The results revealed that thematic thinking was positively linked to open-mindedness and innovative work behavior; also open-mindedness mediated the relationship between thematic thinking and innovative work behavior. This study has explored, tested, and empirically proved a novel relation in the local context of R&D related individuals (managers) working in diverse fields. The current research extends thematic thinking in the domain of cognition, innovation, and workplace behavior. It concludes that managerial decision making is elemental in performing innovatively. Practical and managerial implications, limitations, and future research directions are discussed to enrich the domain of thematic similarity further

Factors Effecting Investment Decision Making Behavior: The Mediating Role of Information Searches

This study investigates the factors effecting the investment decision making behavior through the mediation role of information searches. Two factors i.e. overconfidence bias and economic expectations are used as independent variables while investment decision making behavior is taken as dependent variable. Information search is used as mediating variable. For this purpose, a survey questionnaire was used to test the hypotheses. The population in this survey was investors of Lahore Stock Exchange of Pakistan and Faisalabad Trading Floor. Total 270 questionnaires were distributed; only 245 of them were received back 11 were not included in the analyses as they were incomplete. Hence, 229 questionnaires were used in the analyses. Simple and multiple regression analysis were used as statistical tool. The results showed positive and significant relationship between economic expectations and investment decision making behavior but when information search was included as mediator the relationship became insignificant and negative; which suggests full mediation in case of economic expectations. Overconfidence bias was also found to have positive and significant relationship with investment decision making behavior which remained significant when information search was added as mediator; suggesting a partial mediation in case of overconfidence
