Antineutrino flux from the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant

    Get PDF
We present a calculation of the antineutrino flux produced by the reactors at the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant in M\'exico, based on the antineutrino spectra produced in the decay chains of the fission fragments of the main isotopes in the reactor core, and their fission rates, that have been calculated using the DRAGON simulation code. We also present an estimate of the number of expected events in a detector made of plastic scintillator with a mass of 1 ton, at 100 m from the reactor cores.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 4 table

    Status of FNAL SciBooNE experiment

SciBooNE is a new experiment at FNAL which will make precision neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements in the one GeV region. These measurements are essential for the future neutrino oscillation experiments. We started data taking in the antineutrino mode on June 8, 2007, and collected 5.19 \times 10^{19} protons on target (POT) before the accelerator shutdown in August. The first data from SciBooNE are reported in this article.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures.

Palabras clave: Manuel Mindán, persona, “Horizonte interior”, sociedad gregaria, “nostrismo”, individualismo, totalitarismo Person as Inner Horizon in the Philosophy of Manuel Mindán Abstract People and things are quite different, but we must distinguish clearly between individuals and the concept of “person”. So, the person possesses an “inner horizon”, completely new, and characterizes him as being on approach to Truth and Freedom -which are specific to the human itself-, while both are needed as remedies against desolation and tyranny. Likewise, a society can be tyrannical, in several senses. However, Manuel Mindán believes that the individual understood as a “person” must always prevail over the gregarious and closed group. Keywords: Manuel Mindán, person, “inner horizon”, things, individuals, “Gregarious Group”, “nostrismo”, truth, freedom, individualism, totalitarianism. Significant Gene Array Analysis and Cluster-Based Machine Learning for Disease Class Prediction

    Get PDF
Gene expression analysis has been of major interest to biostatisticians for many decades. Such studies are necessary for the understanding of disease risk assessment and prediction, so that medical professionals and scientists alike may learn how to better create treatment plans to lessen symptoms and perhaps even find cures. In this study, we will investigate various gene expression analyses and machine learning techniques for disease class prediction, as well as assess predictive validity of these models and uncover differentially expressed (DE) genes for their relevant pathology datasets. Multiple gene expression datasets will be used to test model accuracies and will be obtained using the Affymetrix U133A platform (GPL96). Significant Analysis of Microarrays (SAM) had been used to identify potential disease biomarkers, followed by these predictive models: (a) random forest, (b) random forest with Gene eXpression Network Analysis (GXNA), (c) RF++, (d) LASSO, and (e) Bayesian Neural Networks. One of the intended goals for this study is to find clusters of co-expressed genes and identify the effect of clustering classification based on knowledge in gene expression data/microarray data. The other goal is to determine the usefulness of Automatic Relevancy Determination in Bayesian neural networks

Magnus Expansion and Three-Neutrino Oscillations in Matter

We present a semi-analytical derivation of the survival probability of solar neutrinos in the three generation scheme, based on the Magnus approximation of the evolution operator of a three level system, and assuming a mass hierarchy among neutrino mass eigenstates. We have used an exponential profile for the solar electron density in our approximation. The different interesting density regions that appear throughout the propagation are analyzed. Finally, some comments on the allowed regions in the solar neutrino parameter space are addressed.Comment: RevTex4 style, 5 pages including 5 figures. First measurement of the muon neutrino charged current quasielastic double differential cross section

    Get PDF
A high-statistics sample of charged-current muon neutrino scattering events collected with the MiniBooNE experiment is analyzed to extract the first measurement of the double differential cross section (d(2)sigma/dT(mu)dcos theta(mu)) for charged-current quasielastic (CCQE) scattering on carbon. This result features minimal model dependence and provides the most complete information on this process to date. With the assumption of CCQE scattering, the absolute cross section as a function of neutrino energy (sigma[E-nu]) and the single differential cross section (d sigma/dQ(2)) are extracted to facilitate comparison with previous measurements. These quantities may be used to characterize an effective axial-vector form factor of the nucleon and to improve the modeling of low-energy neutrino interactions on nuclear targets. The results are relevant for experiments searching for neutrino oscillations. This work was conducted with support from Fermilab, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation.Peer reviewe

Search for core-collapse supernovae using the MiniBooNE neutrino detector

We present a search for core-collapse supernovae in the Milky Way galaxy, using the MiniBooNE neutrino detector. No evidence is found for core-collapse supernovae occurring in our Galaxy in the period from December 14, 2004 to July 31, 2008, corresponding to 98% live time for collection. We set a limit on the core-collapse supernova rate out to a distance of 13.4 kpc to be less than 0.69 supernovae per year at 90% C.
