Induced mass in N=2 super Yang-Mills theories
The masses of the matter fields of N=2 Super-Yang-Mills theories can be
defined as parameters of deformed supersymmetry transformations. The
formulation used involves central charges for the matter fields. The explicit
form of the deformed supersymmetry transformations and of the invariant
Lagrangian in presence of the gauge supermultiplet are constructed. This works
generalizes a former one, due to the same authors, which presented the free
matter case.Comment: 15 pages, Late
Performance, carcass characteristics and ingestive behavior of feedlot lambs fed fresh or ensiled sugar cane
Thirty Santa Ines ram lambs, 26.2±0.6kg and 151±1.7 day-old, were penned to evaluate the effects of feeding sugar cane silages on performance, carcass characteristics and ingestive behavior. Lambs were fed a 50:50 (concentrate:roughage ratio) TMR. Experimental treatments were: fresh sugar cane, sugar cane silage without additive and sugar cane silage treated with Lactobacillus buchneri (5x10(4) cfu/g wet basis). No differences (P>0.05) on dry matter intake, average daily gain, feed conversion and carcass characteristics were observed among treatments. Eating time (min/g NDF) and rumination efficiency (g DM/h) were lower (P<0.05) for silage diets. Sugar cane silage had no detrimental effect on lamb performance and carcass characteristics compared to fresh sugar cane. Adding L. buchneri to sugar cane silage did not change the evaluated characteristics
Belief heterogeneity and survival in incomplete markets
In complete markets economies (Sandroni [16]), or in economies with Pareto optimal outcomes (Blume and Easley [10]), the market selection hypothesis holds, as long as traders have identical discount factors. Traders who survive must have beliefs that merge with the truth. We show that in incomplete markets, regardless of traders’ discount factors, the market selects for a range of beliefs, at least some of which do not merge with the truth. We also show that impatient traders with incorrect beliefs can survive and that these incorrect beliefs impact prices. These beliefs may be chosen so that they are far from the truth
Bradykinin B2 receptor signaling increases glucose uptake and oxidation: evidence and open questions
The Kinin B2 receptor (B2R) is classically involved in vasodilation and inflammatory responses. However, through the observation of hypoglycemic effects of Angiotensin-I-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, this protein has been related to metabolic glucose modulation in physiological and pathophysiological contexts. Although several studies have evaluated this matter, the different methodologies and models employed, combined with the distinct target organs, results in a challenge to summarize and apply the knowledge in this field. Therefore, this review aims to compile human and animal data in order to provide a big picture about what is already known regarding B2R and glucose metabolism, as well to suggest pending investigation issues aiming at evaluating the role of B2R in relation to glucose metabolism in homeostatic situations and metabolic disturbances. The data indicate that B2R signaling is involved mainly in glucose uptake in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, acting as a synergic player beside insulin. However, most data indicate that B2R induces increased glucose oxidation, instead of storage, via activation of a broad signaling cascade involving Nitric Oxide (NO) and cyclic-GMP dependent protein kinase (PKG). Additionally, we highlight that this modulation is impaired in metabolic disturbances such as diabetes and obesity, and we provide a hypothetic mechanism to explain this blockade in light of literature data provided for this review, as well as other authors
A pre-Columbian Peruvian scalp was examined decades ago by a researcher from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Professor Olympio da Fonseca Filho described nits and adult lice attached to hair shafts and commented about the origin of head lice infestations on mankind. This same scalp was sent to our laboratory and is the subject of the present paper. Analysis showed a massive infestation with nine eggs/cm2 and an impressive number of very well preserved adult lice. The infestation age was roughly estimated as nine months before death based on the distance of nits from the hair root and the medium rate of hair growth. A small traditional textile was associated with the scalp, possibly part of the funerary belongings. Other morphological aspects visualized by low-vacuum scanning electron microscopy are also presented here for adults and nits.Há décadas um escalpo peruano, datado do período pré-colombiano, foi examinado por um pesquisador da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the diversity of fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) species that use myrtaceous fruit, particularly guava, as hosts in several localities in the state of Bahia and to determine the infestation rates, pupal viability rates, and fruit fly-parasitoid associations. Sampling of myrtaceous fruit was carried out in 24 municipalities in different regions in the state of Bahia. Four fruit fly species, Anastrepha fraterculus, Anastrepha zenildae, Anastrepha sororcula, and Ceratitis capitata were obtained from the collected fruit. Three parasitoid species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) emerged from Anastrepha larvae/pupae, Doryctobracon areolatus, Utetes anastrephae, and Asobara anastrephae. Doryctobracon areolatus emerged from A. fraterculus, A. sororcula and A. zenildae; Utetes anastrephae emerged from A. fraterculus and A. zenildae; and Asobara anastrephae emerged from A. fraterculus. Fruit fly and myrtaceous fruit associations are reported for the first time in several municipalities in the state of Bahia. A. zenildae was found infesting Syzygium malaccense for the first time in Brazil
