Anna Seghers' Transit: The Puzzle of Identity

The present paper aims at analysing the theme of identity in Anna Seghers’ Transit (1944). Due to the fact that it deals with the story of a German man who is in exile in order to escape from the Nazi regime, its historical context is relevant. The novel p resents Marseille as a chaotic city granting asylum and as the last choice for exiles’ way out. It also reflects the official French policy toward exiles, which was characterized by its unlimited requirement of visas in order to remain in the unoccupied Fr ance. It will be explained, through the analysis of the narrator’s and protagonist’s dimensions, that under the arduous condition of exile the conception of identity turns out to be quite controversial. In fact, individual identity is constructed in relati on to the collective one. In this sense, exiles have to overcome all the obstacles that emerge from their lack of belonging to social groups in the new land. At this point, it must be noted that exiles’ sense of national identity is also affected. They imm erse themselves in a slow and inefficient bureaucratic system which will somehow determine their identities. In fact, the main struggle exiles have to face is the one about who they are and where they find themselves. Hence, they subject themselves to a co mplex process of rediscovery in order to give answer to the principal question identity asks: how they define their place in the world and present themselves to it. After having addressed the basic notions of identity, I will develop the analysis of identi ty in exile focusing on the main protagonist and on the narrator’s voice. Through the analysis of both of them, it will be proved that there is an inability to reconcile the authentic identity and the identification, that is, how they are labelled by the a uthorities. In other words, I will try to demonstrate that there is a gap between how individuals define themselves and how bureaucracy and society determines the individual

Selección de centro, comunicación y concepto de calidad

El artículo comenta algunos aspectos relacionados con la selección de centro educativo por parte de los padres y madres. El escenario educativo en la última década ha cambiado deforma considerable. La baja natalidad, el exceso de oferta, la competitividad, las políticas conservadoras, las restricciones económicas, etc. han motivado el desarrollo del concepto de «mercado educativo»: los centros publicitan su oferta y los «clientes» seleccionan («compran») el modelo de enseñanza que más les interesa. Ante esta coyuntura ¿por qué criterios se rigen los padres y madres para seleccionar un centro educativo para sus hijos/as? En el artículo proporcionamos algunos datos en torno a los indicadores y variables que manejan las familias para tomar esta decisión. Finalmente, abordamos el complejo tema del marketing, la publicidad, la comunicación interna y externa en los centros educativos y las responsabilidades que deben asumir los equipos directivos en esta cuestión.___________________________This article comments on certain aspects relating to how parents select schools for their children. Faced with this situation, what criteria do parents follow when selecting a school for their children? In the article we provide data on indicators and variables that families use to reach a decision. Los deportistas y los que trabajamos en este ámbito debemos de respetar simultáneamente el deporte, el juego y a nosotros mismos. Análisis crítico de la cirugía de la válvula tricúspide

ResuménLa insuficiencia tricúspide funcional significativa está presente en el 30% de los pacientes sometidos a cirugía valvular mitral. Se produce por dilatación del anillo y restricción de los velos secundaria a disfunción del ventrículo derecho. En la actualidad se sabe que la reparación tricúspide mejora la supervivencia y la clase funcional en los pacientes con insuficiencia significativa; sin embargo, continúa la controversia en aquellos pacientes con insuficiencia leve o moderada. En la presente revisión se comentan los actuales criterios para la reparación tricúspide concomitante con lesiones valvulares izquierdas. Se recomienda la realización de anuloplastia tricúspide en función de parámetros de dilatación anular y disfunción del ventrículo derecho independientemente del grado de insuficiencia.Abstractsignificant functional tricuspid regurgitation is present in 30% of patients submitted to mitral valve surgery. this is due to annular dilatation and leaflet tethering secondary to right ventricular dysfunction. Currently, there is evidence suggesting that tricuspid valve repair improves survival and functional class in patients with significant regurgitation. Nevertheless, there is still some controversy about the need for repair in those patients having mild or moderate insufficiency. In this review, we discuss the present criteria for concomitant tricuspid valve repair in left-sided valvular lesions. The practice of tricuspid valve repair is recommended according to criteria of annular dilatation and right ventricular dysfunction, regardless of the grade of regurgitation

There was a higher amount of cases of overweight in men than in women. Resumen de las evidencias científicas de la eficacia del ejercicio físico en las enfermedades cardiovasculares

ResumenLas enfermedades cardiovasculares son las más prevalentes en la sociedad occidental. En las últimas décadas, innumerables publicaciones informan del poder terapéutico del ejercicio físico (EF) en estas patologías. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido buscar, valorar y resumir los resultados de las mejores pruebas científicas publicadas, sobre el efecto del EF, en la mortalidad y morbilidad de pacientes con enfermedad coronaria, insuficiencia cardiaca, hipertensión arterial, claudicación intermitente e ictus. Se buscaron revisiones sistemáticas en Medline, Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews y Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects. Se concluye que, tanto el entrenamiento aeróbico, como el de fuerza son seguros y eficaces en la disminución de la mortalidad y morbilidad en la mejora de algunos signos y síntomas, y en el incremento de la función física en enfermos cardiovasculares.AbstractCardiovascular diseases are among the most widespread in Western culture. In recent decades, numerous publications have assessed the effectiveness of physical exercise (PE) in these pathologies. The aim of this study was to search for, evaluate and summarize the results of the most conclusive scientific evidence published on the effectiveness of PE on mortality and morbidity in patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertension, intermittent claudication, and stroke. We searched for systematic reviews in Medline, Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects. In conclusion, both aerobic and strength training are safe and effective in reducing mortality and morbidity, improving signs and symptoms, and increasing physical function in patients with cardiovascular disease

Los niños nacidos más tarde dentro del año competicional sufren de menores posibilidades de promoción, debido a su menor grado de madurez física, mental y emocional. Este fenómeno, conocido como Efecto Relativo de la Edad o RAE, se estudia en el fútbol guipuzcoano y estatal, evaluando posibles los mecanismos físicos implicados. The consequences of RAE are discussed, as are the possible remedies and new lines of research
