Importância do litoral entre Minho e Lima para a avifauna migratória

Mestrado em Ecologia, Biodiversidade e Gestão de EcossistemasApesar de estar ladeado por ZPE/IBA e um parque natural, o litoral entre o Lima e o Minho, zona pertencente à rede Natura 2000, carece de maior informação acerca das aves migratórias que nele se possam encontrar. Este trabalho que aqui se apresenta pretende encontrar respostas sobre como esta faixa litoral é importante para a avifauna migratória, e se os contingentes que utilizam esta área são suficientes para que se proceda a medidas de protecção superiores. Para tal procedeu-se à monitorização de três pontos (Moledo, Afife e Carreço), entre Outubro de 2006 e Maio de 2007, que numa análise preliminar se revelaram como portadores do número quase total de aves. Estas observações permitiram aferir sobre a quantidade e constância das aves nesta região. Assim verificou-se que quer os números totais de aves, quer por espécie, não permitem uma classificação de protecção superior da área em causa. Ainda assim dados interessantes foram observados tais como a nidificação do Charadrius alexandrinus e a residência, até ao momento nunca referida, do Phalacrocorax carbo. Esta informação é curiosa por se referir a taxa que numa fase inicial eram apresentados como migradores para o local e aqui são dados como nidificante e residente, respectivamente. A distribuição desigual de algumas espécies é também um facto a analisar, merecendo em estudos já em execução uma análise mais cuidada, fundamentalmente no factor alimentação. ABSTRACT: Despite being flanked by ZPE/IBA and a natural park, the coast between Lima and Minho, which belongs to Natura 2000, needs all information on migratory birds as possible. The aim of this study is to find answers about how this coastal area is important for migratory birds and if the quotas that are used in this area are sufficient for carrying out protection measures. During this study three points were monitored (Moledo, Afife and Carreço) between October 2006 and May 2007, which, in a preliminary analyses, were proven to carry the main quota of birds. These observations helped gauge on the amount and consistency of birds in this region. The higher protection classification of the area is not possible only by concerning the total amount of birds or its species. Interesting data were observed such as the residence and nesting of Charadrius alexandrinus, and the residence of Phalacrocorax carbo that was never mentioned before. This data is curious because it is referent to taxons that were initially presented as migratory and now are presented as breeding and resident, respectively. The uneven distribution of some species is also a fact to consider, that deserves, in already running studies, a more careful analysis, especially regarding the feeding factor

Estágio curricular na "Empreitada da 3ª fase de reparação do Caneiro de Alcântara"

Trabalho de Relatório de Estágio para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Engenharia Civil na Área de Especialização de EdificaçõesA função de um diretor de obra assume um papel muito abrangente nos dias de hoje na execução de uma empreitada, pelo que se torna essencial estarmos munidos de ferramentas adequadas para enfrentar os váriosobstáculos inerentes à profissão de Engenheiro Civil. No presente trabalho foi possível analisar com algum detalhe todo o faseamento de uma empreitada, ou seja, desde a sua orçamentação em fase de concurso, até ao culminar da sua receção definitiva. O estágio curricular desenvolvido na “Empreitada da 3ª Fase de Reparação do Caneiro de Alcântara” permitiu o desempenho de diversas funções, de índole técnica, sendo de destacar o desenvolvimento de soluções construtivas alternativas. Numa vertente mais prática destaca-se igualmente a necessidade do Diretor de Obra saber gerir recursos, liderar equipas, avaliar riscos, trabalhar em equipas multidisciplinares que apoiam e fundamentam a tomada de decisões.Abstract: The function of a construction manager superintendent takes nowadays on a much larger role in performing a task, and it is therefore essential to be equipped with appropriate tools to overpass various obstacles inherent to the profession of Civil Engineer. In the present work it was possible to analyze in detail, all the phases of a contract, ie, from its budgeting, to its final acceptance. The traineeship I developed the "Contract of the 3rd Phase of Repair Caneiro Alcantara" allowed me to perform various functions of a technical nature, with emphasis on the development of constructive alternative solutions. In most practical aspect also highlight the need to know how the Manager must manage resources, lead teams, evaluate risks, work in multidisciplinary teams that support and underpin decision making

An adverse effect of intense exercise?

All rights reserved.Regular physical exercise is responsible for various health benefits, and is recommended for primary and secondary cardiovascular (CV) prevention. Despite these recognized benefits, various clinical events can occur in athletes, including acute myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death (SCD); the main cause of SCD in veteran athletes is coronary artery disease (CAD). The relationship between intense exercise training and CAD is controversial, and a U-shaped association has been hypothesized. If this is the case, screening for subclinical CAD in older athletes may be justified, and various different methodologies have been proposed. However, the methodology for screening veteran athletes is not consensual, and several markers of CAD, in addition to clinical CV risk factors, could improve risk stratification in this population. In the present paper we review the published data on CAD in athletes, focusing on the relationship between the dose of exercise and CAD, as well as the implications for pre-participation screening of veteran athletes.publishersversionpublishe

Water management in University of Minho sustainable politics

As Instituições de Ensino Superior têm um papel fundamental na resposta aos desafios que a humanidade se tem vindo a defrontar, principalmente no que confere ao desafio do desenvolvimento sustentável. Dentro deste paradigma, o uso sustentável da água é um tema critico por via da sua relação com o desenvolvimento humano, mas também da sua relação com o meio ambiente. Este documento apresenta uma proposta para uma gestão sustentável da água em campus universitários. Para tal, usou-se o exemplo da Universidade do Minho, enquanto instituição de referência nacional da incorporação dos desígnios da sustentabilidade nas suas políticas. Procura-se assim dar um contributo para aumentar o desempenho sustentável dos campi da Universidade do Minho.Universities have a key role in addressing the challenges that humanity have to face, in particular those related to sustainable development. Within this paradigm, the sustainable management of water is a critical issue, since it is an essential resource to human development and to the life of related ecosystems. This document presents a proposal for a sustainable water management on the Universities campus. For this matter the example of the University of Minho, a reference in the incorporation of sustainable development in institutional policies, is used. Livro ilustrado: Chapeuzinho Amarelo em duas versões

os livros de literatura voltados para o público infantil podem representar o primeiro contato da criança com a literatura e a arte, através das duas linguagens que normalmente os constituem: texto e imagem. Embora haja casos em que as ilustrações sejam abordadas como elementos meramente decorativos, há livros em que o sentido da narrativa depende diretamente das relações estabelecidas entre palavras e imagens. Nessa perspectiva, o presente artigo propõe uma leitura comparativa entre duas edições do livro Chapeuzinho Amarelo, de Chico Buarque, focalizando tanto o plano imagético de cada uma delas quanto o texto verbal que compõe a obra, que se constitui em um poema narrativo. Em ambas as edições o texto escrito permanece incólume, ao passo que as ilustrações mudam e, com elas, muitos significados da narrativa. Para tal análise, serão utilizados os conceitos teóricos de Camargo (1995), Linden (2011), Lira (2016)

Blood molecular profile to predict genotoxicity from exposure to antineoplastic drugs

However, the usually applied cytogenetic assays are laborious and time-consuming, the reason why it is critical to developing rapid and economic new methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate if the molecular profile of frozen whole blood, acquired by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, allows to assess genotoxicity in occupational exposure to antineoplastic drugs, as obtained by the cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay. For that purpose, 92 samples of peripheral blood were studied: 46 samples from hospital professionals occupationally exposed to antineoplastic drugs and 46 samples from workers in academia without exposure (controls). It was first evaluated the metabolome from frozen whole blood by methanol precipitation of macromolecules as haemoglobin, followed by centrifugation. The metabolome molecular profile resulted in 3 ratios of spectral bands, significantly different between the exposed and non-exposed group (p<0.01), and a spectral principal component-linear discriminant analysis (PCA-LDA) model enabling to predict genotoxicity from exposure with 73 % accuracy. After optimization of the dilution degree and solution used, it was possible to obtain a higher number of significant ratios of spectral bands, i.e., 10 ratios significantly different (p<0.001), highlighting the high sensitivity and specificity of the method. Indeed, the PCA-LDA model, based on the molecular profile of whole blood, enabled to predict genotoxicity from exposure with an accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of 92 %, 93 %, and 91 %, respectively. All these parameters were achieved based on 1 μL of frozen whole blood, in a high-throughput mode, i.e., based on the simultaneous analysis of 92 samples, in a simple and economic mode. Corrupção e escândalo político: o enquadramento dos escândalos face oculta e mensalão na imprensa portuguesa e brasileira

O artigo que o leitor tem entre mãos é uma tentativa de analisar a cobertura jornalística de dois escândalos de corrupção, o Face Oculta e o Mensalão, numa perspetiva comparativa. Versando, num primeiro momento, sobre os fenómenos da corrupção e do escândalo político, procuraremos analisar os conceitos à luz da Filosofia Política, discorrendo sobre a sua relação sem, contudo, deixar de fazer a sua distinção analítica. Na parte empírica, adotaremos a teoria do enquadramento no sentido de compreender de que forma o semanário SOL (Portugal) e a Revista Veja (Brasil), operaram uma reconfiguração dos escândalos no momento da sua eclosão

Balearic shearwater and northern gannet bycatch risk assessment in Portuguese Continental Waters

Even though incidental captures in fisheries are one of the major threats to seabirds, bycatch has been difficult to quantify and specific risk areas are rarely identified. The present study evaluates the potential fisheries bycatch effect on two of the most emblematic seabird species wintering off continental Portugal, the critically endangered Balearic Shearwater and Northern Gannet. Information was collected by on-board observers and voluntary logbooks kept by fishing boat captains. Each species' Potential Biological Removal (for the study area) was based on the respective population abundance estimated through aerial surveys. The analysis of bycatch mortality identified the Fixed Gear in the Polyvalent fleet and Purse Seiners as the fisheries with the highest Balearic Shearwater bycatch rate. Longline and Fixed Gear fisheries had the highest Northern Gannet bycatch rate. The Potential Biological Removal thresholds were 41 Balearic Shearwaters per year (CI ¼ 20–83) and 2345 Northern Gannets per year (CI ¼ 2049–2680). The overlap between the predictive species distribution maps and fisheries density maps allowed for a seabird Bycatch Risk Assessment. The higher Balearic Shearwater bycatch risk was obtained for Fixed Gear and Purse Seines and the highest Northern Gannet bycatch risk was obtained for Longline and Fixed Gear fisheries. Bycatch mitigation measures should be applied in fisheries presenting the higher bycatch risks. This study identifies the potential areas where Balearic Shearwater and Northern Gannet bycatch is more likely to occur, including some of the already designated Special Protection Areas where management and conservation measures should urgently be applied.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
