Classical properties of algebras using a new graph association
We study the relation between algebraic structures and Graph Theory. We have
defined five different weighted digraphs associated to a finite dimensional
algebra over a field in order to tackle important properties of the associated
algebras, mainly the nilpotency and solvability in the case of Leibniz
algebras
Structural Changes in Data Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks are an important technology for making distributed
autonomous measures in hostile or inaccessible environments. Among the
challenges they pose, the way data travel among them is a relevant issue since
their structure is quite dynamic. The operational topology of such devices can
often be described by complex networks. In this work, we assess the variation
of measures commonly employed in the complex networks literature applied to
wireless sensor networks. Four data communication strategies were considered:
geometric, random, small-world, and scale-free models, along with the shortest
path length measure. The sensitivity of this measure was analyzed with respect
to the following perturbations: insertion and removal of nodes in the geometric
strategy; and insertion, removal and rewiring of links in the other models. The
assessment was performed using the normalized Kullback-Leibler divergence and
Hellinger distance quantifiers, both deriving from the Information Theory
framework. The results reveal that the shortest path length is sensitive to
perturbations.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, Central European Journal of Physic
Thermal treatment of superconductor thin film of the BSCCO system using domestic microwave oven
In this work, we report the preparation of a superconductor thin film of the
BSCCO system using a good quality powder with nominal composition
Bi_{1.8}Pb_{0.4}Sr_2CaCu_2O_x which was thermally treated using a domestic
microwave oven (2.45 GHz, 800 W). This film was grew on a single crystal of
LaAlO_3(100) substrate and exhibited a crystalline structure with the c-axis
perpendicular to the plane of the substrate. An onset superconducting
transition temperature was measured at 80 K.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Characterization of Vehicle Behavior with Information Theory
This work proposes the use of Information Theory for the characterization of
vehicles behavior through their velocities. Three public data sets were used:
i.Mobile Century data set collected on Highway I-880, near Union City,
California; ii.Borl\"ange GPS data set collected in the Swedish city of
Borl\"ange; and iii.Beijing taxicabs data set collected in Beijing, China,
where each vehicle speed is stored as a time series. The Bandt-Pompe
methodology combined with the Complexity-Entropy plane were used to identify
different regimes and behaviors. The global velocity is compatible with a
correlated noise with f^{-k} Power Spectrum with k >= 0. With this we identify
traffic behaviors as, for instance, random velocities (k aprox. 0) when there
is congestion, and more correlated velocities (k aprox. 3) in the presence of
free traffic flow
Contraceptive use and sexual function: a comparison of Italian female medical students and women attending family planning services
Objectives: The aims of the study were to understand how education relates to contraceptive choice and how sexual function can vary in relation to the use of a contraceptive method. Methods: We surveyed female medical students and women attending a family planning service (FPS) in Italy. Participants completed an online questionnaire which asked for information on sociodemographics, lifestyle, sexuality and contraceptive use and also included items of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Results: The questionnaire was completed by 413 women (362 students and 51 women attending the FPS) between the ages of 18 and 30 years. FSFI scores revealed a lower risk of sexual dysfunction among women in the control group who did not use oral hormonal contraception. The differences in FSFI total scores between the two study groups, when subdivided by the primary contraceptive method used, was statistically significant (p < 0.005). Women using the vaginal ring had the lowest risk of sexual dysfunction, compared with all other women, and had a positive sexual function profile. In particular, the highest FSFI domain scores were lubrication, orgasm and satisfaction, also among the control group. Expensive contraception, such as long-acting reversible contraception, was not preferred by this young population, even though such methods are more contemporary and manageable. Compared with controls, students had lower compliance with contraception and a negative attitude towards voluntary termination of pregnancy. Conclusion: Despite their scientific knowledge, Italian female medical students were found to need sexual and contraceptive assistance. A woman's sexual function responds to her awareness of her body and varies in relation to how she is guided in her contraceptive choice. Contraceptive counselling is an excellent means to improve female sexuality
The useful potential of using existing data to uniquely identify predictable wind events and regimes, part 1
Correlations between standard meteorological data and wind power generation potential were developed. Combined with appropriate wind forecasts, these correlations can be useful to load dispatchers to supplement conventional energy sources. Hourly wind data were analyzed for four sites, each exhibiting a unique physiography. These sites are Amarillo, Texas; Ludington, Michigan; Montauk Point, New York; and San Gorgonio, California. Synoptic weather maps and tables are presented to illustrate various wind 'regimes' at these sites
Managing educational institutions: School heads’ leadership practices and teachers’ performance
School heads are agents of change who contribute a major impression on the educational milieu through their information-sharing methods, creating supportive social connections, participating in mentoring programs, and fostering progress. Hence, this study ascertained the interrelation between the public school head’s leadership practices and teachers’ performance. As correlation research, simple random sampling was used to calculate the sample size for teachers, while total enumeration was used for school heads. A structured questionnaire was developed to gather the necessary information that reinforced the theme of this analysis. Weighted mean was used to ascertain the level of leadership practices of school heads and the level of teacher performance. T-test, F-test, post-hoc test, and Pearson r were employed to establish the degree of association between and among variables. This study concluded that the variation in leadership practices experienced by school heads and teachers is absolutely vital, confirming that their reactions are fundamentally better. Teachers' performance is consistent irrespective of age, educational achievement, or significant contributions. In terms of teaching status and number of years of experience, head teachers have improved teaching efficiency than teachers and master teachers. Teachers with shorter relevant experience showed poorer educational quality relative to those who spent more time in the school system. School heads who have obtained their doctorate degrees get a greater level of leadership practices than the holders of master's degrees. The very productive performance of teachers stays the same, regardless of whether the school heads exhibit a very high degree of authentic leadership
