    Estimate of CP Violation for the LBNE Project and $\delta_{CP}

    Full text link
    Measurements of CP violation (CPV) and the basic δCP\delta_{CP} parameter are the goals of the LBNE Project, which is being planned. Using the expected energy and baseline parameters for the LBNE Project, CPV and the dependence of CPV on δCP\delta_{CP} are estimated, to help in the planning of this project.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur

    Ramifications of intranuclear re-scattering in MINOS

    Full text link
    MINOS will measure the composition of a neutrino beam at two locations, 735km apart, in an effort confirm the (atmospheric) neutrino oscillation hypothesis and measure the associated mixing parameters. Oscillations will be manifested as a difference in the rate and energy spectrum of muon neutrino CC interactions measured in the two detectors. Because most interactions observed in MINOS are inelastic, the neutrino energy is reconstructed as the sum of the energy carried by the muon and that seen in the hadronic shower emanating from the struck nucleus. The latter is sensitive to uncertainties in the hadronisation process, chief among them those due to intranuclear re-scattering (i.e., final state interactions). We discuss the simulation of intranuclear re-scattering currently used by MINOS and its effect on quantities observable in the experiment.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, To be published in Nucl.Phys.Proc.Suppl.-- Proceedings of the IV International Workshop on Neutrino-Nucleus Interactions in the Few-GeV Region, 26-29, September, 200

    We shortly review past and future experiments at reactors aimed at searches for neutrino masses and mixing. We also consider new idea to search at Krasnoyarsk for small mixing angle oscillations in the atmosheric neutrino mass parameter region.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX 2.09, 6 Postscript figures. Prospects of accelerator and reactor neutrino oscillation experiments for the coming ten years

    Full text link
    We analyze the physics potential of long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments planned for the coming ten years, where the main focus is the sensitivity limit to the small mixing angle θ13\theta_{13}. The discussed experiments include the conventional beam experiments MINOS, ICARUS, and OPERA, which are under construction, the planned superbeam experiments J-PARC to Super-Kamiokande and NuMI off-axis, as well as new reactor experiments with near and far detectors, represented by the Double-Chooz project. We perform a complete numerical simulation including systematics, correlations, and degeneracies on an equal footing for all experiments using the GLoBES software. After discussing the improvement of our knowledge on the atmospheric parameters θ23\theta_{23} and Δm312\Delta m^2_{31} by these experiments, we investigate the potential to determine θ13\theta_{13} within the next ten years in detail. Furthermore, we show that under optimistic assumptions and for θ13\theta_{13} close to the current bound, even the next generation of experiments might provide some information on the Dirac CP phase and the type of the neutrino mass hierarchy.Comment: 38 pages, 13 figures, Eqs. Neutrino oscillations from the splitting of Fermi points

    Full text link
    As was shown previously, oscillations of massless neutrinos may be due to the splitting of multiply degenerate Fermi points. In this Letter, we give the details and propose a three-flavor model of Fermi point splittings and neutrino mixings with only two free parameters. The model may explain recent experimental results from the K2K and KamLAND collaborations. There is also rough agreement with the data on atmospheric neutrinos (SuperK) and solar neutrinos (SNO), but further analysis is required. Most importantly, the Ansatz allows for relatively strong T-violating (CP-nonconserving) effects in the neutrino sector.Comment: 6 pages with jetplFRK.cls, v4: published versio

    Bilinear R-parity violating SUSY: Neutrinoless double beta decay in the light of solar and atmospheric neutrino data

    Get PDF
    Neutrinoless double beta (\znbb) decay is considered within bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry, including the full one-loop corrections to the neutrino-neutralino mass matrix. Expected rates for \znbb decay in this model are discussed in light of recent atmospheric and solar neutrino data. We conclude that (a) tree-level calculations for \znbb decay within the bilinear model are not reliable in the range of parameters preferred by current solar and atmospheric neutrino problems. And (b) if the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems are to be solved within bilinear R-parity violating SUSY the expected rates for \znbb decay are very low; the effective Majorana neutrino mass at most 0.01 eV and typical values being one order of magnitude lower. Observing \znbb decay in the next round of experiments therefore would rule out the bilinear R-parity violating supersymmetric model as an explanation for solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations, as well as any hierarchical scheme for neutrino masses, unless new neutrino interactions are present.Comment: 1 reference added, enlarged discussion of loop
