Novel Computational Approaches Characterizing Knee Physiotherapy

    Get PDF
A knee joint’s longevity depends on the proper integration of structural components in an axial alignment. If just one of the components is abnormally off-axis, the biomechanical system fails, resulting in arthritis. The complexity of various failures in the knee joint has led orthopedic surgeons to select total knee replacement as a primary treatment. In many cases, this means sacrificing much of an otherwise normal joint. Here, we review novel computational approaches to describe knee physiotherapy by introducing a new dimension of foot loading to the knee axis alignment producing an improved functional status of the patient. New physiotherapeutic applications are then possible by aligning foot loading with the functional axis of the knee joint during the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis

Grasses and legumes affect differently the amount of N in the soil over time, mainly due to the differences in the chemical characteristics of its mass. Changes in the availability of N influence the absorption and assimilation of N, which will influence physiological processes in the plants. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the changes in gas exchange, chlorophyll fluorescence and biochemical activity in leaves of broccoli grown under different green manure amendments. The experiment was designed in a complete randomized block design, using the mass of jack bean (JB) and millet (M) pure and in mixtures and one control, totaling six treatments: Control, 100JB, 75JB25M, 50JB50M, 25JB75M, 100M, with four replicates. The canopy area, N content, gas exchange, and biochemical analyzes were evaluated on the broccoli index leaf 40 days after broccoli transplantation. The higher ratio of jack bean, the higher the canopy area, the N content and the amino acid, protein and malate content, and lower starch content, possibly due to the higher N mineralization in this green manure.Grasses and legumes affect differently the amount of N in the soil over time, mainly due to the differences in the chemical characteristics of its mass. Get PDF
This paper aims to present a knowledge management proposal for a software factory organization. A software factory requires a holistic organization, in which many factors must be taken into account, such as: people management and business management. The complexity of the structure leads us to elaborate on an adapted model of Experience Factory to meets the needs of research and development laboratories. The construction of the adapted model used a bibliographical research about Experience Factory models, the characterization of the project, a mapping between the project’s characteristics and the activities of the Experience Factory models. The Experience Factory models attend to the main characteristics identified for the Software Factory Laboratory (SFL): development, capacitation, training, research and innovation. Finally, we tested and analyzed the results on the proposed model on the knowledge generated by the SFL during the software development process

“HydroSOStainable” Concept: How Does Information Influence Consumer Expectations towards Roasted Almonds?

    Get PDF
Water scarcity is one of the top five key global risks over the last years, and agriculture is the major and least efficient user of fresh water. In this scenario, the “hydroSOStainable” concept has been developed and registered to protect fruits and vegetables cultivated with a volume of water below the crop evapotranspiration. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate how the information influence the consumer liking and preference of the roasting almonds labelled as “hydroSOStainable” and “conventional”, although belonged to the same sample. Thus, we explored 300 consumers (Seville, Spain (high levels of water stress) versus Donostia, Spain and Wroclaw, Poland (regions with no water stress)) preference and acceptance of roasted almonds using satis faction degree, CATA and willingness to pay questions. The present study demonstrated that both location and sociodemographic aspects influenced consumers perception and liking. Consumers living in areas with water restrictions were more susceptible to be influenced by the hydroSOStain able/conventional concept, while consumers from regions without water restrictions would need more information to choose a sustainable product. Both man and women, centennials and millennials scored higher the supposed hydroSOStainable almonds, while generation X was not really influenced by the information effect. Finally, 77% of consumers, regardless of location, were willing to pay a higher price for the almonds labelled “hydroSOStainable”. Consequently, these results provide valu able information for the government and food industry about consumer choice regarding sustainable products, depending on the location, knowledge, and sociodemographic aspects

This article describes a solution that allows people with visual impairments who also have the inability to use hands, to have access to the Dosvox system, a system that enables the interaction between the visually impaired. In this solution, the Dosvox, whose operation is originally performed solely by keyboard, now can be operated via a gyroscope coupled to the user's head, whose movement is translated into a series of keystrokes, chosen to provide the full operation of the menus Dosvox which correspond to a high percentage of interaction with this system. The solution identified several problems to be solved, they were treated by means of algoritms and techniques presented in the article.

A novel series of 2-hydrazolyl-3-phenyl-5-(4-nitrobenzylidene)-4-thiazolidinone substituted (3a-p) has been synthesized. The intermediates 2-hydrazolyl-3-phenyl-4-thiazolidinone substituted (2a-p) were prepared by condensation of benzaldehyde 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazone substituted (1a-p) with ethyl chloroacetate. Theses intermediates were submitted to reaction with ethyl 2-cyano-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-acetate to give the title compounds. The 4-thiazolidinones were screened for their anti-Toxoplasma gondii, and all derivatives promoted decrease of percentage of infection of Vero cells, with elimination of intracellular tachyzoites. The LD50 ranged around 0.5 mM for the intracellular parasites and were higher than 10 mM for Vero cells. According to results of antimicrobial activity, only two compounds showed significant inhibition against M. luteus, but demonstrated higher values of MIC and MBC when compared with standard drug.
