Restriction and decay for flat hypersurfaces
In the first part we consider restriction theorems for hypersurfaces [Gamma] in Rn, with the affine curvature [fòrmula] introduced as a mitigating factor. Sjolin, [19], showed that there is a universal restriction theorem for all convex curves in R2. We show that in dimensions greater than two there is no analogous universal restriction theorem for hypersurfaces with non-negative curvature. In the second part we discuss decay estimates for the Fourier transform of the density [fòrmula] supported on the surface and investigate the relationship between restriction and decay in this setting. It is well-known that restriction theorems follow from appropriate decay estimates; one would like to know whether restriction and decay are, in fact, equivalent. We show that this is not the case in two dimensions. We also go some way towards a classification of those curves/surfaces for which decay holds by giving some sufficient conditions and some necessary conditions for decay
Evaluating the Impact of a New Resort Amenity on Gaming Business Volumes
Using performance data from an Atlantic City hotel-casino, theoretical models are advanced to estimate the effects of a new indoor pool/nightclub on both daily coin-in and table game drop. This study represents the first attempt to estimate the indirect gaming contributions of a new nongaming amenity. The pool/nightclub variable was found to significantly increase table game drop at a rate of $150,500 per day, but it failed to produce a significant effect in the coin-in model. The core model, design, and results described herein are critical to operators and developers alike, as estimating the impacts of new nongaming amenities on key gaming volumes has been a guessing game to date. Thus, this paper offers a way to substantially improve return-on-investment calculations for new nongaming amenities. Although constructed with gaming in mind, the core model could be easily adapted to a variety of leisure service businesses
Security through aid: countering violent extremism and terrorism with Australia’s aid program
Overview
This paper argues that countering violent extremism (CVE) and terrorism are international security and development issues. Australia’s foreign aid should be used to strengthen resilience to violent extremist ideologies. Improving governance in weak states can help to deny terrorists the easy recruiting grounds of lawless communities.
The ASPI report argues that there are several ways to better leverage our foreign aid program to counter terrorism and violent extremism.

A taxonomic revision of Camptocerus Dejean (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae)
The Neotropical ambrosia beetle genus Camptocerus Dejean was revised. Monophyly of the genus was tested using 66 morphological characters in a cladistic analysis. Camptocerus was recovered as monophyletic and 31 species were recognized. Six new synonyms were discovered: C. auricomus Blandford 1896 (= C. striatulus Hagedorn 1905), C. inoblitus (Schedl) 1939 (= C. morio (Schedl) 1952), C. niger (Fabricius) 1801 (= C. tectus Eggers 1943), C. opacicollis (Eggers) 1929 (= C. infidelis Wood 1969; = C. uniseriatus Schedl 1972), C. suturalis (Fabricius) 1801 (= C. cinctus Chapuis 1869). Two species were removed from synonymy: C. charpentierae Schedl and C. hirtipennis Schedl. Twelve new species of Camptocerus were described: C. coccoformus (Brazil, Ecuador), C. distinctus (Ecuador), C. doleae (Ecuador), C. igniculus (Brazil), C. mallopterus (Ecuador), C. noel (widely distributed across Amazonia), C. petrovi (Ecuador), C. pilifrons (Ecuador), C. pseudoangustior (widely distributed across Amazonia), C. satyrus (Brazil), C. unicornus (Brazil) and C. zucca (Ecuador). Lectotypes are here designated for the following species: Camptocerus auricomus Blandford, Camptocerus squammiger Chapuis, Hylesinus gibbus Fabricius, Hylesinus suturalis Fabricius, Hylesinus fasciatus Fabricius. A key, diagnosis, distribution, host records and images were provided for each species
Algebraic deformations arising from orbifolds with discrete torsion
We develop methods for computing Hochschild cohomology groups and
deformations of crossed product rings. We use these methods to find
deformations of a ring associated to a particular orbifold with discrete
torsion, and give a presentation of the center of the resulting deformed ring.
This connects with earlier calculations by Vafa and Witten of chiral numbers
