Such a shift would help combat climate change, improve public health, and create more pleasant urban environments. Despite this, the city provides a cycling network that is today far from bike friendly. To increase cycling and improve the bike network, streets need to be adapted from the current car-dominated streetscape. Hornsgatan in Södermalm is an accident-prone stretch for cyclists and has been for many years. In this paper, Hornsgatan is analyzed as a reflection of the typical hostile cycling environment one can often find in Stockholm. The five design principles for bicycle infrastructure from the Dutch Design Manual for Bicycle Traffic (CROW 2016), are applied to three different cross-sections from the current design of Hornsgatan, and flaws concerning safety, directness, comfort, cohesion and attractiveness become apparent. Measures are then proposed that can improve safety and the experience as a cyclist on the street. These principles are applied in the cross sections and an alternative, bike-friendly design is presented. Factors that make Hornsgatan hostile for cyclists are the narrow dimensions of the cycle path and its inappropriate placement between moving and parked cars, the absence of protective measures at intersections where cycle paths abruptly end and cyclists are forced to drive alongside motor traffic, and poor road maintenance. Improvement measures proposed include increasing the width of the cycle path, spacing and physical separation from the car lanes, removal of on-street parking

: The plant Selaginella doederleinii is a herbal plant. Its phytochemical content including saponin, flavonoid and alkaloid can function as hepatoprotector. The objective of this study was to reveal the histopathological features of wistar rats induced with CCl4 and administered with water extract of the leaves of Selaginella doederleinii. This study was an experimental research employing 16 wistar rats. The rats were divided into 5 groups. Group A was the control group, whereas the other groups were treated with CCl4 for five days. The differences between these groups were as follows; after treatment with CCl4, rats in group B were terminated, rats in group C were fed with regular pellets, rats in group D were administered with water extract of the leaves of Selaginella doederleinii of 1.6 cc/day, and rats in group E were administered with water extract of the leaves of Selaginella doederleinii of 3.2 cc/day. Results showed that the histological features of the liver of rats administered with water extract of the leaves of Selaginella doederleinii for three days after treated with CCl4 exhibit numerous regeneration of liver cells. However, if the administration was prolonged for six days then fatty liver was observed. To conclude, Selaginella doederleinii can improve the histopathological features of the liver of rats induced with CCl4, however if the administration was prolonged then liver damage may occur

Introduction: in South Africa in 2016, injuries accounted for 4 483 deaths of children aged 0-4 years. Prior studies have reported that, in some parts of the country, poor pre-hospital clinical care is a key contributor to the morbidity and mortality of critically ill and injured children. A key component of a coordinated emergency health care system are emergency medical care (EMC) personnel. Here, we assess the knowledge of EMC personnel employed by the Free State Department of Health on aspects of paediatric pre-hospital emergency care. Methods: this descriptive study used a questionnaire survey to obtain data on the knowledge of Free State EMC personnel on aspects of paediatric pre-hospital emergency care. Results: only 197 of the initial 250 questionnaires distributed were returned, giving a response rate of 78.8%. More than half (51.2%) of the participants across the five districts had inadequate knowledge of paediatric pre-hospital emergency care. The majority of EMC personnel could not calculate the paediatric blood pressure for age and did not know the paediatric Glasgow Coma Scale (74.0% and 53.4% respectively; P < 0.0001 in both cases). Participants attributed inadequate knowledge to limited exposure to paediatrics cases, insufficient training, limited scope of practice, and lack of equipment. Conclusion: enhancing the knowledge and skills of EMC personnel in paediatrics pre-hospital care through a short learning programme or continuous professional development programme, and providing adequate paediatric emergency equipment, will ensure that comprehensive pre-hospital emergency care is given to paediatric patients in the province

From Azerbaijan to Zimbabwe, authorities are imposing internet shutdowns at staggering rates. In 2022 alone, governments and other actors disrupted the internet at least 187 times across 35 countries — breaking our #KeepItOn record for the number of countries to hit the kill switch in a single year. Not only are shutdowns resurging after a decrease at the height of the pandemic, they're lasting longer, targeting specific populations, and are being wielded when people need a connection the most — including during humanitarian crises, mass protests, and active conflict and war
