Evaluation of the Inclusion of the Green Seaweed Ulva ohnoi as an Ingredient in Feeds for Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) and European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax)
Simple Summary The use of seaweeds in aquafeeds is receiving increasing attention due to their potential nutritional and functional benefits. However, several green seaweeds such as Ulva presents nutritional limitations because of the undigestible polysaccharides, although these may exert a positive effect on the immunological status of the fish. The present study developed three different experiments aimed to re-evaluate the presence of protease inhibitors described for Ulva ohnoi, to assess its nutritional value as an ingredient and also to evaluate its potential protective effect on the oxidative metabolism of fish, being experiments developed in two different fish species (European sea bass Dicentrarchus labrax and gilthead sea bream, Sparus aurata). Results indicate the absence of negative effects of U. ohnoi on protein digestion of sea bream but a limited value as a feed ingredient. In contrast, its contents in bioactives seem to be correlated to the observed positive effects on the immune status and oxidative metabolism when fish are challenged by the consumption of highly oxidized dietary oil. This study evaluated the use of Ulva ohnoi as an ingredient in feeds for aquaculture in three different experiments. Experiment 1 was oriented to confirm the negative effect of U. ohnoi on fish digestion. Experiment 2 assessed the effect on growth, feed efficiency, and immune status of juvenile sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fed on diets including U. ohnoi, previously treated or not with carbohydrases used to partially hydrolyze indigestible polysaccharides. Experiment 3 was aimed to evaluate the potential protective effect of U. ohnoi on the oxidative status of sea bream (Sparus aurata) challenged by the consumption of a feed formulated with the oil fraction completely oxidized. Results show a negligible effect of U. ohnoi meal on protein digestion when included in feeds at levels of 10% or less. Moreover, results of growth and feed use evidenced the possibility of using up to 5% inclusion of algal meal in feeds without adverse effects on the zootechnical parameters, while the enzyme pretreatment was ineffective to improve its nutritional use. Finally, the inclusion of U. onhoi in feeds determined both an immunostimulatory effect, evidenced by an increase in skin mucus lysozyme in the two mentioned fish species, and a positive influence on the oxidative metabolism of seabream when fed on a diet including rancid oil. This research was funded by the Excellence Campus of Marine Science (CEIMAR) within the "III Call for Innovative Projects in the field of Blue Economy"

Perceptions about the sexuality of women with fibromyalgia syndrome: a phenomenological study
Aims: The aim of this study was to explore and understand the perceptions and experiences of women with fibromyalgia syndrome regarding their sexuality.
Background: Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic pathology, which compromises a woman’s physical, mental and emotional health. Although concerns related to sexuality are commonly reported, research has tended to focus on the physical symptoms.
Design: An interpretive qualitative research methodology using Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics was carried out.
Methods: This qualitative study explores the sexuality of women with fibromyalgia syndrome. A focus group and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 women with fibromyalgia syndrome. Data were collected between April - June 2014. Participants were recruited until findings reached saturation.
Findings: Three themes define the perception of sexuality for these women: (i) Physical impact: don’t touch, don’t look; (ii) Sexuality and identity: fighting against their loss; (iii) Impact on the relationship: sexuality as a way of connecting the couple.
Conclusion: Despite limitations, sexuality is important for the identity and quality of life of women with fibromyalgia syndrome. Together with the physical symptomology, guilt, fear and a lack of understanding compromise the coping process. Women need the support of their partner, their socio-family environment and health professionals. Nurses can aid the successful adjustment to sexual problems related to fibromyalgia syndrome
The diagnosis of hereditary angioedema: family caregivers’ experiences
The aim of this study was to understand the experiences of family caregivers in the process of diagnosing hereditary angioedema. An interpretive and qualitative research methodology based on Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics was carried out. Data collection took place between May 2015 and August 2016 and included a focus group and in-depth interviews with 16 family caregivers. Two themes define the experiences of family caregivers: “Family life focuses on identifying the problem” and “Discovering and coping with a complex diagnosis.” The process of diagnosis generates fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and incomprehension. Family caregivers are the main support for patients diagnosed with hereditary angioedema. As they share in the patients’ suffering, they need a diagnosis to be established to be able to cope with the disease and offer support. Family health nurses can contribute to improving the coping process in this phase of the disease
I. Canarias).
en aras de avanzar hacia los objetivos que propone la Industria 4.0.One objective of the Industry 4.0 paradigm is to convert data into useful information
for decision making. After the term of Data Mining, a set of techniques is included,
aimed at the extraction of processable knowledge and that is implicit in the analyzed
data. Data Mining techniques are used to improve the performance of productive
or industrial processes in which large volumes of structured information are
handled. Prediction techniques are based on data analysis to predict continuous
value functions. The food industry is an industry of special relevance in our country.
Being able to adjust the production process to the volume of demand, type of raw
material, composition and the operating conditions of the factory will allow decisions
to be taken that reduce costs, improve control and reduce technical incidents with
customers. In this paper we will show how the main prediction techniques can be
applied to the food industry, to advance towards the objectives proposed by Industry

Non-destructive test approach for assessing the amount of fibre in polymeric fibre reinforced concrete
Over the past decade, significant efforts have been made to develop polymeric-based macro-fibre reinforced concrete (PFRC) for structural applications. Consequently, remarkable growth has been reported in the use of this type of fibres as concrete reinforcement. However, advances in quality control methods for PFRC lie behind any progress observed in polymeric fibre (PF) technology. In particular, cost-effective and efficient test procedures for quantifying the amount of fibre in fresh/hardened concrete matrices are, to the author’s best knowledge, non-existent, hindering the expansion of this innovative concrete reinforcement. This paper discusses a non-destructive method based on measuring electrical impedance to assess the content of polymeric fibres embedded in concrete matrices. A detailed experimental programme was performed to prove the capacity of the test method to obtain reliable results. The results confirm that the test approach proposed herein has interesting potential as a quality control method.Postprint (published version
