Search for hidden turbulent gas through interstellar scintillation
Stars twinkle because their light propagates through the atmosphere. The same
phenomenon is expected when the light of remote stars crosses a Galactic - disk
or halo - refractive medium such as a molecular cloud. We present the promising
results of a test performed with the ESO-NTT and the perspectives of detection.Comment: Structure and dynamics of disk galaxies, Petit Jean Mountain : United

Study of a Strategy for Parallax Microlensing Detection Towards the Magellanic Clouds
In this article, we have investigated the possibility to distinguish between
different galactic models through the microlensing parallax studies. We show
that a systematic search for parallax effects can be done using the currently
running alert systems and complementary photometric telescopes, to distinguish
between different lens distance distributions. We have considered two galactic
dark compact objects distributions, with total optical depths corresponding to
the EROS current upper limits. These models correspond to two extreme
hypothesis on a three component galactic structure made of a thin disc, a thick
disc, and a spherically symmetric halo. Our study shows that for sub-solar mass
lenses, an exposure of staryr toward LMC should allow to
distinguish between these two extreme models. In addition the self-lensing
hypothesis (lensing by LMC objects) can efficiently be tested through the
method proposed here.Comment: 10 pages, 12 eps figures. To be published in A&A (accepted version).
Minor changes: - Discussion added on the differential velocity of the thick
galactic disk with respect to the thin disk. - Quality and lisibility of
figures improved. - Typo errors correcte
Seroprevalence Of Hepatitis-b Virus In Mid And Far Western Region In Nepal
Hepatitis B is significant health problems that might involve the late sequel of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The present study aimed to know the seroprevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in mid and far western region in Nepal with various clinical conditions. This was a retrospective study conducted in mid and far western region in Nepal, which was performed in the Central Laboratory of Microbiology at Nepalgunj Medical College and Teaching Hospital, Banke, Nepal during the period of September 2010 to April 2012. The serum samples were tested for Hepatitis B surface Antigen (HBsAg) by Sandwich immunoassay. Total 7010 patients including 43.72% male and 56.28% female were tested for HBsAg. Of them, 135 were positive and 6875 were negative. In 135 positive cases 84 (62.22%) were male and 51 (37.77% )were female. In 6875 negative cases 2981 were male and 3894 were female. The seroprevalence rate of HBV was 1.93% in mid and far western region in Nepal. Seroprevalence of HBV seems to be higher in male then the female; it was 2.75% in male and 1.29% in female. The study revealed that the seroprevalence of HBV was alarmingly higher in such a population, which probably reflects a high background prevalence of HBV infections should be taken into consideration and Implementation of community-based preventive measures and improved strategies for safe blood supply might prove useful to decrease the seroprevalence

Comparison of technetium-99m IgG with technetium-99m red blood cells labeling in cardiac blood-pool scintigraphy: A preliminary study
This first clinical prospective study was conducted to use of technetium-99m immunoglobulin G (99mTc-IgG) as compared with autologous 99mTc-red blood cells (RBC) in gated blood pool ventriculography. We studied 12 patients who referred to us for a possible diagnosis of liver hemangioma or infection. Six patients underwent gated planar blood pool (GPBP) acquisition using 99mTc-RBC and 6 GPBP acquisition using 99mTc-IgG. The use of 99mTc-IgG in cardiac blood pool studies provided comparable images to 99mTc-RBC. In conclusion, 99mTc-IgG, which is readily available and needs only a single injection, may be an attractive alternative to 99mTc-RBC for the estimation of various cardiac function parameters like left ventricular function
Baryonic acoustic oscillations simulations for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST)
The baryonic acoustic oscillations are features in the spatial distribution
of the galaxies which, if observed at different epochs, probe the nature of the
dark energy. In order to be able to measure the parameters of the dark energy
equation of state to high precision, a huge sample of galaxies has to be used.
The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope will survey the optical sky with 6 filters
from 300nm and 1100nm, such that a catalog of galaxies with photometric
redshifts will be available for dark energy studies. In this article, we will
give a rough estimate of the impact of the photometric redshift uncertainties
on the computation of the dark energy parameter through the reconstruction of
the BAO scale from a simulated photometric catalog.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 10th Rencontres de Blois proceedin
Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati Cosmology in Bianchi I brane
The dynamics of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati Cosmology (DGP) braneworld with an
anisotropic brane is studied. The Friedmann equations and their solutions are
obtained for two branches of anisotropic DGP model. The late time behavior in
DGP cosmology is examined in the presence of anisotropy which shows that
universe enters a self-accelerating phase much later compared to the isotropic
case. The acceleration conditions and slow-roll conditions for inflation are
obtained
