This article discusses the potential application of Chronic Care Model (CCM) for self-management of type 2 diabetes focusing on the middle-aged population of rural area of Pakistan. The article further highlights the variations of chronic care model and the evidence for its efficacy and elaborating the elements of the model that are used in primary health care. The features of Chronic Care Model (CCM) have been highlighted including the socio-ecological approach to diabetes self-management and community-based partnership for improving chronic disease management. The two components of the chronic care model such as patient self-management support (SMS) and delivery system design (DSD) have been proposed for type 2 diabetes patients in the middle-aged population of rural area of Pakistan to see the effectiveness of their intervention in improving the patient quality of life, risk behaviour and knowledge and adherence to treatment. The chronic care model offers an ideal framework to support diabetes self-management education and support because it provides a sound basis on which to promote self-management

Role of reinforcement methods in retention of composite restorations of primary anterior teeth

Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the retention of composite restorations of primary anterior teeth reinforced with composite posts, glass fiber posts, para-pulpal pins with composite posts, and para-pulpal pins alone. Methods Forty freshly extracted sound primary canine teeth with at least two-third of the root length remaining were selected. After disinfection, the tooth crown was cut perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Root canals were prepared and filled using zinc oxide eugenol paste. The teeth were randomly allocated into four groups and restored using one of the following: Composite posts, glass fiber posts, para- pulpal pins with composite posts, and para-pulpal pins alone. Composite cores were constructed while a preformed U-shaped orthodontic wire was placed in the composite tip, samples were then placed in a universal testing machine for measurement of retention. The minimum force required to dislodge the restoration or cause fracture was considered as the retentive strength. The collected data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (P < 0.05).Results There were statistically significant differences between groups (P = 0.011). The mean retention in the para-pulpal pins with composite post group (131.72 ± 32.35N) was greater than that in composite posts (93.65 ± 24.45N), glass fiber post (95.92 ± 25.35N), and the para-pulpal pin group (95.34 ± 29.56N) (P < 0.05). Other differences were not significant (P > 0.05).Conclusion para-Pulpal pin alone may not help in improving the retention of full crown restoration of primary anterior teeth. However, when used along with a composite post, it appears to improve the retention of restoration

    Iris segmentation

The quality of eye image data become degraded particularly when the image is taken in the non-cooperative acquisition environment such as under visible wavelength illumination. Consequently, this environmental condition may lead to noisy eye images, incorrect localization of limbic and pupillary boundaries and eventually degrade the performance of iris recognition system. Hence, this study has compared several segmentation methods to address the abovementioned issues. The results show that Circular Hough transform method is the best segmentation method with the best overall accuracy, error rate and decidability index that more tolerant to ‘noise’ such as reflection

Economic Fluctuation and Its Effects on Tourism in Kish Island, Iran

    Get PDF
When economic recession accompany by international sanctions, market will experience the worst scenario in three layers: political environment, fiscal, and management issues that Iran experienced from the second quarter of 2012, due to international sanction. A field survey was applied to evaluate two target groups; shop owners and tourists’ reactions against the economic fluctuation effects in Kish Island. Principal component analysis was considered to analyze the data that obtained from field survey. The result shows that although the tourist chose economizing strategies, however shop owners faced Paradoxical sphere, imbalance economy, none transparency, high risk and uncertainty space. Shop owners try to adjust themselves through the variety of strategies based on their capacity. Keywords: Tourism, Sanction, Tourists' behavior, shop owners, Kish Islan

Working Capital Management and Corporate Internal Growth Performance: Evidence of Listed Non-Financial Companies in Pakistan

    Get PDF
Purpose: The main objective of this research is to determine the impact of working capital management (WCM) on the growth of manufacturing firms in Pakistan. Methodology: The dependent variable of Internal Growth Rate (IGR), is affected by independent variables of Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), Inventory Turnover (ITO), and Payables Deferral Period (PDP). Based on 5 years of (2016-2020) data of 174 non-financial listed companies taken from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), regression, descriptive and analytical analysis ascertained that the Working Capital Management (WCM) of a firm is comprehensively measured by the tool of Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC). Findings: The results showed that WCM played an important role in the value creation of the overall business as long as DSO and ITO have a negative impact on the IGR performance of the firm, and for the better performance of IGR, firms needed to keep DSO and ITO at a minimum level. Research limitations/implications: Due to the type of research that has been conducted, other sectors of the industry, such as service, finance, and food, have been left out, and focus has only been made on the manufacturing side. The findings of this study may not be completely applicable to all listed manufacturing firms due to the difference in size and environment that could also affect firms’ growth. Originality/value: This research provides a clear understanding and comprehension of the contribution of working capital management to profitability, and internal, and sustainable growth
