Angielskie nazwy zawodów w polskich serialach obyczajowych
This article discusses borrowings from English related to the theme aspect of profession names including those adapted in Polish and those typical of professional dialects and formerly not recorded in any lexicographic sources. The research material includes dialogues extracted from Polish serial dramas (referred to by the author as advance serial dramas). The excerpted borrowings from English are primarily oriented to business, media or advertising. This type of words can function in the Polish language because of the language’s nominal need. While many English words referring to professions are used chiefly in social dialects, more and more frequently they tend to be absorbed by general Polish
Seksualność, metafora i różnice kulturowe na przykładzie „Zdobyczy” Emila Zoli i jej polskiego tłumaczenia
W dziewiętnastowiecznej literaturze seksualność może być przedstawiona
tylko w sposób pośredni – poprzez aluzje i metafory. W „Zdobyczy” Emila Zoli rośliny w szklarni
wyrażają i symbolizują pragnienia postaci.
In the literature of the 19th century, sexuality may be painted only in an indirect
way, through allusions or metaphors. In Émile Zola’s "La Curée", plants in a greenhouse express
and symbolize the character’s desire. However, the force of the original image is completely lost
in the Polish translation, made in the 1950s. Being a product of the Communist period, this text
doesn’t take into consideration the cultural aspect of the process of translation. An attempt to
imitate the lexical and syntactic structure is made at the cost of pictorial description, characteristic
of Zola’s prose. Therefore, the most beautiful fragments of French novel remain nearly unknown
to polish readers

Anglicyzmy w artykułach dziennikarzy modowych a kryteria poprawności językowej
The article deals with the subject of expansive borrowings from English, encountered in the texts of fashion journalists published in the pages of women’s magazines. The Anglicisms in question have been characterized in confrontation with the criteria of evaluation of linguistic innovation used today by normativists, namely: the criterion of self-sufficiency, language economy and also the functional, visual and aesthetic criteria. The analysis of this lexis renders possible its evaluation with regard to usefulness in the Polish language, but also makes it possible to formulate conclusions whether we can talk today about the process of creation of a professional jargon of fashion journalists. The article deals with the subject of expansive borrowings from English, encountered in the texts of fashion journalists published in the pages of women’s magazines. „Kobiety-malarki w powieściach i nowelach E. Zoli: rzemieślniczki czy artystki?”
Art is considered by Emile Zola as one of the crucial values, as well in his life as in his work. It appears there in many different ways: practical (collecting paintings, friendship with artists) and theoretic (critical writings on art). One of the consequences of the author’s passion for art are literary characters of male and female painters in several novels of his Rougon-Macquart series and some of his short stories. The paper focuses on a few characters of women painters, taking into consideration Zola’s opinion about female creation, its position and its value compared to the work of men. Christine Hallegrain from The Masterpiece, Clotilde Rougon from Doctor Pascal and Mrs Sourdis from an eponymic short story are used to prove that even the most gifted woman is not able to achieve the level of a male performance, as the value of the genuine art consists of the very element of male genius. This is why women painters can never be considered as artists, they are always just artisans. Artykuł analizuje kilka postaci kobiet-malarek w kontekście poglądów Zoli na twórczość kobiecą, jej pozycję i wartość w porównaniu do twórczości mężczyzn.
Holmium, thulium and lutetium-octamolybdate [Mo8O28](8-) 1D chains : luminescence investigation of europium doped lutetium-octamolybdate
In this work we report a novel lanthanide octamolybdate 1D chain type of structure formed with holmium, thulium and lutetium. This is a rare case of compounds built out of [Mo8O28](8-) units. These compounds were prepared in a mild reaction synthesis starting from the commonly used heptamolybdate polyoxometalate (POM) [(NH4)(6)[Mo7O24]. Interestingly, in our previous study we have employed a very similar synthesis route for lanthanides with a larger ionic radius and obtained heptamolybdate clusters. For the lanthanides with a smaller ionic radius (Ho3+, Tm3+ and Lu3+) no crystals could be obtained under those conditions. Only when doubling the amount of the lanthanide salt, single crystals suitable for measurements were obtained. These crystals revealed yet a very different structure from those previously observed. Lanthanide octamolybdate 1D chains were formed. Doubling the amount of the salt for other lanthanide ions still yielded heptamolybdate compounds previously reported by us. The lutetium octamolybdate compound was doped with 1-7.5% of Eu3+ ions yielding emission colors ranging from blue to strong red. Additionally in these materials the excitation wavelength was varied, and it was observed that the materials emission color was excitation-wavelength dependent
