Konzeption einer mobilen Website für die Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Düsseldorf

Der Beitrag beschreibt die Überlegungen und Notwendigkeiten, die bei der Konzeption einer mobilen Website für eine wissenschaftliche Universalbibliothek zu berücksichtigen sind. Ausgegangen wurde dabei von internationalen Best-Practice-Beispielen; Ergebnisse von bereits publizierten Studien zu den Nutzererwartungen hinsichtlich mobiler Bibliothekswebsites wurden einbezogen. Die mobile Navigationsstruktur zeichnet sich durch fokussierte Inhalte und Funktionalitäten aus, die umfangreicher auch auf der klassischen Website der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Düsseldorf (ULB) vorhanden sind. Neue Features wurden integriert, die den Zugriff via Smartphone berücksichtigen und sowohl das schnelle Informationsinteresse unterwegs bedienen als auch praktischen Bedürfnissen der Nutzer Rechnung tragen. Im Hintergrund des Projektes stand die Frage, welche Bibliotheksdienstleistungen mobil angeboten werden sollten und wie diese auf kleinen Displays ansprechend zu präsentieren sind.Based on a survey of international best practices and on previously published studies on users’ expectations of mobile library websites, a mobile navigation structure for academic libraries was developed. It is expected to reflect the content and functionalities of the standard website. Furthermore, several new features are incorporated, taking into account the specificity of mobile access and the needs of student users. Imagevideos und Werbespots von Bibliotheken : Konzeptionen der filmischen Selbstdarstellung

Im Zuge der zunehmenden Videorezeption im Internet wird es auch für Bibliotheken im Rahmen ihres strategischen Marketings immer wichtiger, ihre Dienstleistungsangebote in bewegten Bildern darzustellen. Zwei unterschiedliche Videogattungen dienen der Imagepflege von Bibliotheken – das eher informierende Imagevideo und der kurze, humorvoll pointierte Werbespot. Die Arbeit geht der Frage nach, welche thematischen und formalen Realisierungsvarianten sich derzeit bei diesen Videos, die der Verbesserung des Images und der Erhöhung des Bekanntheitsgrades von Bibliotheken dienen, feststellen lassen. Darüber hinaus wird aufgezeigt, welche Möglichkeiten bestehen, ein Bibliotheksvideo im Internet zu platzieren und zu distribuieren um eine optimale Rezeption der anvisierten Zielgruppen zu gewährleisten.The reception of videos via internet is increasing step by step. For libraries as well as business companies this is a chance to represent themselves by producing an image video or advertising spot. These videos can be realized in several ways concerning form and content. The thesis gives a survey of the different kinds of filmic self-expression libraries choose to represent their offers. Psychometric Evaluation of the German Version of the Demoralization Scale-II and the Association Between Demoralization, Sociodemographic, Disease- and Treatment-Related Factors in Patients With Cancer

Objective: To test the psychometric properties, internal consistency, dimensional structure, and convergent validity of the German version of the Demoralization Scale- II (DS-II), and to examine the association between demoralization, sociodemographic, disease- and treatment-related variables in patients with cancer. Methods: We recruited adult patients with cancer at a Psychosocial Counseling Center and at oncological wards. Participants completed the 16-item DS-II, Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Screener-2 (GAD-2), Distress Thermometer (DT), and Body Image Scale (BIS). We analyzed internal consistency of the DS-II using Cronbach‘s Alpha (a). We tested the dimensional structure of the DS-II with Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA). Convergent validity was expressed through correlation coefficients with established measures of psychological distress. The associations between demoralization, sociodemographic, disease- and treatmentrelated variables were examined with ANOVAs. Results: Out of 942 eligible patients, 620 participated. The average DS-II total score was M = 5.78, SD = 6.34, the Meaning and Purpose subscale M = 2.20, SD = 3.20, and the Distress and Coping Ability subscale M = 3.58, SD = 3.45. Internal consistency ranged from high to excellent with a = 0.93 for the DS-II total scale, a = 0.90 for the Meaning and Purpose subscale, and a = 0.87 for the Distress and Coping Ability subscale. The one-factor and the two-factor model yielded similar model fits, with CFI and TLI ranging between 0.910 and 0.933, SRMR < 0.05. The DS-II correlated significantly with depression (PHQ-9: r = 0.69), anxiety (GAD-2: r = 0.72), mental distress (DT: r = 0.36), and body image disturbance (BIS: r = 0.58). High levels of demoralization were reported by patients aged between 18 and 49 years (M = 7.77, SD = 6.26), patients who were divorced/separated (M = 7.64, SD = 7.29), lung cancer patients (M = 9.29, SD = 8.20), and those receiving no radiotherapy (M = 7.46, SD = 6.60). Conclusion: The DS-II has very good psychometric properties and can be recommended as a reliable tool for assessing demoralization in patients with cancer. The results support the implementation of a screening for demoralization in specific risk groups due to significantly increased demoralization scores

Mit dem Thema „Alter(n) und Medien“ beschäftigt sich die Veranstaltung im Studium Generale der Universität Heidelberg, die am Montag, 6. Juli 2015, stattfindet. Dazu referiert Prof. Dr. Anja Hartung vom Institut für Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaft der Universität Leipzig. Sie wird sich in ihrem Vortrag mit der Frage auseinandersetzen, was die medialen Entwicklungen für die Handlungsoptionen des alternden Menschen leisten und was die Erfahrungen des Alters für die Zukunftsfähigkeit unserer Gesellschaft bedeuten. Wie die Referentin betont, gelten Medien als Symbole des Fortschritts. Im Gefüge von Wirtschaft, Kultur und Gesellschaft werden Innovation und Zukunftsfähigkeit heute mehr den je mit medialen Dynamiken in Verbindung gebracht. Nach den Worten von Prof. Hartung wird dies deutlich an den enormen Anstrengungen, die Gesellschaften unternehmen, um ihrer Bevölkerung die jeweils neuen Medienkompetenzen zu vermitteln. Auch alte Menschen sind davon nicht unbenommen. In diesem Zusammenhang richtet sich der Blick vor allem darauf, was das Alter für eine Gesellschaft leistet, die eine hochdynamische Mediengesellschaft ist. Selten wird danach gefragt, welche Bedeutung Medien für das Alter und das Altern haben und was wiederum Alter und Altern für eine humane Entwicklung der Medienkultur bedeuten können, so die Wissenschaftlerin. Das Thema „Anders altern: Kulturelle Vielfalt und Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten“ steht im Zentrum des Studium Generale, zu dem die Universität Heidelberg im Sommersemester 2015 einlädt. Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Ruperto Carola wie auch anderer Hochschulen im In- und Ausland beleuchten verschiedene Aspekte des Alterns aus Sicht ihrer jeweiligen Disziplinen. Das Spektrum der Vorträge reicht dabei vom Umgang mit dem Altern und alten Menschen in Asien über ethische Betrachtungen zum Alter bis hin zu Darstellungen des Themas in der zeitgenössischen Literatur

Stiffness and Failure behaviour of folded sandwich cores under combined transverse shear and compression

For efficiently simulating the failure behaviour of sandwich structures made of stiff face sheets and a light-weight core, macroscopic material stiffness and strength values are essential. The investigated folded cores are made from Nomex paper coated with epoxy resin. Due to their channel-like structure, folded cores are air ventilated, which can help to reduce the danger of deterioration, which is a big advancement for applications in the aerospace industry. Folded core structures were tested under combined transverse compression and shear in order to get the stiffness values and the failure criterion under a multi-axial stress state. For this purpose a new test device was developed, which allows a simultaneous application of shear and compression loads. The test results are presented and discussed using a nonlinear description of the stiffness and failure behaviour of the folded core structure. Additionally, the results are compared to the stiffness and the failure behaviour of honeycomb cores

Methodologie und Methoden medienpädagogischer Forschung. Hintergrund, Idee und Anlage des Buches

Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes gehen auf die Fachtagung der Sektion Medienpädagogik der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Erziehungswissenschaft (DGfE) zurück. Die Idee ihrer thematischen Ausrichtung hat ihren Ursprung in einem Diskurs, der sich in der Tagungs- und Tagungsbandgestalt selbst unverkennbar widerspiegelt. Anknüpfend an eine in der Zeitschrift medien + erziehung (2010) geführten Diskussion suchte die Tagung, die Aktualität, Plausibilität und Relevanz der Konzepte Medienkompetenz und Medienbildung in Wissenschaft und Praxis auszuloten. Thematisch wurde dabei selbstredend auch das Feld der empirischen Forschung betreten und mit ihr die Frage, wie denn auf jene Problemkomplexe, die Hintergrund des theoretischen Diskurses sind, methodologisch und methodisch angemessen zu reagieren sei. Mit der Dynamik medialer Entwicklungen und der Erweiterung und Veränderung lebensweltlicher Räume entstünden schließlich nicht nur neue Handlungs- und Aneignungsformen, sondern gleichsam neue inhaltliche Fragestellungen, die neue forschungsmethodische Innovationen erfordern und hervorbringen würden
