    Is IPO Underperformance a Peso Problem?

    Recent studies suggest that the underperformance of IPOs in the post-1970 sample may be a small sample effect or %u201CPeso%u201D problem. That is, IPO underperformance may result from observing too few star performers ex-post than were expected ex-ante. We develop a model of IPO performance that captures this intuition by allowing returns to be drawn from mixtures of outstanding, benchmark, or poor performing states. We estimate the model under the null of no ex-ante average IPO underperformance and construct small sample distributions of various statistics measuring IPO relative performance. We find that small sample biases are extremely unlikely to account for the magnitude of the post-1970 IPO underperformance observed in data.

    In the development of high rate Li-SO-Cl2 cells for various applications, the goal is to achieve 300 watt-hours per kilogram at the C/2 (5 amp) rate in a D cell configuration. The JPL role is to develop the understanding of the performance, life, and safety limiting characteristics in the cell and to transfer the technology to a manufacturer to produce a safe, high quality product in a reproducible manner. The approach taken to achieve the goals is divided into four subject areas: cathode processes and characteristics; chemical reactions and safety; cell design and assembly; and performance and abuse testing.     Photocatalytic treatment of shower water using a pilot scale reactor

    Treatment of shower water deserves special consideration for reuse not only because of its low pollutant loading but also because it is produced in large quantities. In this study, a pilot scale study of photocatalytic degradation of impurities in real shower water was performed in a 31 L volume reactor using titanium dioxide as the photocatalyst. The reactor was operated in a continuous slurry recirculation mode. Several operational parameters were studied including the slurry initial pH, catalyst concentration, air flow rate, and slurry recirculation rate. Up to 57 of total organic carbon (TOC) elimination was obtained after 6 hours of treatment (for 3.0 slurry initial pH, 0.07 gL -1 catalyst concentration, 1.8 Lmin -1 air flow rate, and 4.4 Lmin -1 slurry recirculation rate). This study showed that photocatalysis could be successfully transposed from bench scale to pilot scale. Furthermore, the ease of operation and the potential to use solar energy make photocatalysis an attractive prospect with respect to treatment of grey water. © 2012 Yash Boyjoo et al

    An update of the JPL program to develop Li-SOCl2 cells

    The goal of producing spiral wound D cell was met. The cell design and electrodes, particularly the carbon cathodes were produced in-house. Also all parts were assembled, the welding performed, the electrolyte aided and the cells sealed in-house. The lithium capacity (theoretical) was 19.3 Ah and that of the SOCl2 in the 1.8 m LiAlCl4 electrolyte, 16.4 Ah (a greater excess of SOCl2 is necessary for safe high rate operation). The electrode surface area was 452 sq cm. The carbon electrode comprised Shawinigen Black/Teflon -30 (90/10 by weight) mixture 0.020 inches thick on an expanded metal screen prepared in the JPL laboratory. There were two tab connections to the cathode. The 0.0078 inch thick lithium foil was rolled into an expanded nickel screen. The separator was Mead 934-5 fiberglass material

    Background: The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has spread to various countries in the world, including Indonesia. In response to this, the Indonesian government makes policies and regulations to control and prevent COVID-19. To ensure success in controlling and preventing COVID-19, community compliance is very important, which is largely influenced by the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of the community.Objective: To describe the behavior of the community towards the prevention of COVID-19 in Amurang District.Methods: This research is descriptive with a cross-sectional or cross-sectional design, which will be conducted in September-November 2021. Using the simple random sampling method, 110 respondents met the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Results and Conclusion: The level of knowledge of the people in Amurang District about COVID-19 in the good category is 87 people (79.1%), the attitude of the people in Amurang District about COVID-19 in the good category is 81 people (73.6%), and community actions in the Amurang District Amurang numbered 91 people (82.7%).Keywords: Knowledge, Attitude, Action, COVID-1
