Gravity and extended gravity: estimating a structural model of export entry

Exporters continuously enter and exit individual foreign markets. Although a given firm's status as an exporter tends to be persistent, the set of destination countries that a firm serves changes frequently. In this paper we empirically examine the determinants of a firm's choice of destination countries and show that their export paths follow systematic patterns. We develop a model of export dynamics where firms decide in each period the countries to which they sell. Our model allows prots from each possible destination country to depend on: (a) how similar it is to the firm's home country (gravity), and (b) how similar it is to other destinations to which the firm has previously exported (extended gravity). Given the enormous number of possible export paths from which firms may choose, conventional estimation approaches based on discrete choice models are unfeasible. Instead, we use a moment inequalities approach. Our inequalities come from applying an analogue of Euler's perturbation method to a discrete choice setting. We show that standard gravity forces have a much larger influence on sunk costs than on fixed costs of exporting and that extended gravity effects can be substantial.gravity; extended gravity; export dynamics; moment inequalities

A Microcontroller Based System for Controlling Patient Respiratory Guidelines

The need of making improvements in obtaining (in a non-invasive way) and monitoring the breathing rate parameters in a patient emerges due to (1) the great amount of breathing problems our society suffer, (2) the problems that can be solved, and (3) the methods used so far. Non-specific machines are usually used to carry out these measures or simply calculate the number of inhalations and exhalations within a particular timeframe. These methods lack of effectiveness and precision thus, influencing the capacity of getting a good diagnosis. This proposal focuses on drawing up a technology composed of a mechanism and a user application which allows doctors to obtain the breathing rate parameters in a comfortable and concise way. In addition, such parameters are stored in a database for potential consultation as well as for the medical history of the patients. For this, the current approach takes into account the needs, the capacities, the expectations and the user motivations which have been compiled by means of open interviews, forum discussions, surveys and application uses. In addition, an empirical evaluation has been conducted with a set of volunteers. Relatos, sueños y arte de mi pueblo : Produciendo crónicas con estudiantes de la I.E nuestra señora de la Presentación

La presente investigación “Relatos, sueños y arte Produciendo crónicas con estudiantes de la I.E Nuestra Señora de la Presentación”, hace parte del Macroproyecto “Didáctica del lenguaje escrito”, dirigido por la maestría en educación de la universidad tecnológica de Pereira, para el cual se propuso como objetivo general, determinar la incidencia de una secuencia didáctica con enfoque comunicativo, en la producción escrita del texto con estructura narrativa llamado crónica, en los estudiantes de grados quintos y séptimos de la institución educativa nuestra señora de la presentación y reflexionar sobre las prácticas de enseñanza del lenguaje a partir de dicha implementación. Para ello se optó por un diseño cuasi-experimental intragrupo de tipo pre-test pos-test y la investigación se desarrolló con los grupos 5°a y 7°b, los cuales fueron evaluados antes y después de la implementación de la secuencia didáctica, mediante una rejilla de evaluación de textos escritos que valoró las dimensiones: situación de comunicación, superestructura y lingüística textual. Tanto el análisis como la comparación estadística de los resultados se llevaron a cabo mediante la aplicación del estadígrafo T-Student, el cual permitió rechazar la hipótesis nula y validar la hipótesis de trabajo

Análisis del mejoramiento continuo en el proceso logístico de las empresas multinacionales

Simple regular black hole with logarithmic entropy correction

A simple regular black hole solution satisfying the weak energy condition is obtained within Einstein--non--linear electrodynamics theory. We have computed the thermodynamic properties of this black hole by a careful analysis of the horizons and we have found that the usual Bekenstein--Hawking entropy gets corrected by a logarithmic term. Therefore, in this sense our model realizes some quantum gravity predictions which add this kind of correction to the black hole entropy. In particular, we have established some similitudes between our model and a quadratic generalized uncertainty principle. This similitude has been confirmed by the existence of a remnant, which prevents complete evaporation, in agreement with the quadratic generalized uncertainty principle case
