Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Fatigue Assessment Scale in Caregivers of Palliative Care Patients

Symptoms of fatigue and lack of energy are very common in caregivers of palliative care (PC) patients, traditionally associated with variables such as burden or depression. There are no Spanish-language instruments validated for assessing fatigue levels in this population. The Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS) is a useful and simple instrument for assessing fatigue in this group. The aim of this study was to examine its psychometric properties (factor structure, reliability and validity) in a sample of caregivers of PC patients. Instrumental design for instrument validation was performed. One hundred and eight caregivers of PC patients participated and completed measures of fatigue, family functioning, life satisfaction, caregiver burden, anxiety, depression, resilience and quality of life. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed; non-linear reliability coefficient and Pearson correlations and t-tests were conducted to assess evidence of reliability and validity. The Spanish version of the FAS was found to have a one-dimensional structure. Reliability was 0.88. Validity evidence showed that FAS scores were positively associated with levels of burden, anxiety and depression. They were negatively associated with family functioning, life satisfaction, resilience and quality of life. La traducción de los culturemas en el doblaje y la subtitulación de Mad Men

Resumen: La ficción televisiva estadounidense, y concretamente las sitcom, ha experimentado un gran auge en las últimas décadas. En ellas, los culturemas presentan un reto constante para el traductor. Así, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo fundamental analizar los culturemas en el doblaje y subtitulado de la serie Mad Men (Weiner, 2007). Tras realizar una breve aproximación al concepto de culturema, proponemos un modelo de ficha de análisis para estudiar su traducción en el doblaje y subtitulado de los tres primeros episodios de la primera temporada de dicha serie. Obtuvimos un total de 58 fichas y los resultados extraídos se clasificaron en torno a cuatro categorías (medio natural, patrimonio cultural, cultura social y cultura lingüística), que nos permitieron apreciar una cierta tendencia a la extranjerización tanto en el doblaje como en el subtitulado.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________Abstract: American television fiction, and mainly sitcoms, have dramatically increased in popularity in the last years. As a consequence, cultural references are a continuous challenge for audiovisual translators. This paper aims to analyse the cultural references in the dubbing and subtitling of the television series Mad Men (Weiner, 2007). After lying out our working definition of cultural reference, we suggest an analysis based on an analytical data sheet in order to study cultureme translation into Spanish of the first three episodes of the first season of Mad Men. Lidiar con el franquismo cotidiano. El concepto de Eigen-Sinn y las interacciones sociales en el contexto de una dictadura

El objetivo de este artículo es demostrar la pertinencia de aplicar el concepto de Eigen-Sinn —propuesto por el historiador de la Alltagsgeschichte Alf Lüdtke en sus trabajos sobre las actitudes sociales— al análisis de las interacciones cotidianas entre la población y el régimen franquista. Nuestra pretensión es evaluar de qué manera el uso de Eigen-Sinn puede contribuir a resaltar las ambigüedades y el dinamismo característicos de las actitudes y prácticas sociales en el marco de una dictadura. Para ello, proponemos descender el análisis al plano de la materialización de los discursos y las políticas del régimen a nivel cotidiano, donde es posible aprehender el «mosaico de prácticas» a través de las cuales los españoles se apropiaron de los mismos y las adaptaron a su día a día.The aim of this article is to demonstrate the convenience of using the concept of Eigen-Sinn —coined by the Alltagsgeschichte’s historian Alf Lüdtke in his studies on social attitudes— to analyze the everyday interactions between the people and the Franco regime. We examine the way in which concepts such as Eigen-Sinn demonstrate the ambiguities and dynamism that characterized social attitudes and behaviors. We do this by placing the focus on the materialization of regime discourses and policies in everyday life. Analysis and Assembling of Network Structure in Mutualistic Systems

It has been observed that mutualistic bipartite networks have a nested structure of interactions. In addition, the degree distributions associated with the two guilds involved in such networks (e.g. plants & pollinators or plants & seed dispersers) approximately follow a truncated power law. We show that nestedness and truncated power law distributions are intimately linked, and that any biological reasons for such truncation are superimposed to finite size effects . We further explore the internal organization of bipartite networks by developing a self-organizing network model (SNM) that reproduces empirical observations of pollination systems of widely different sizes. Since the only inputs to the SNM are numbers of plant and animal species, and their interactions (i.e., no data on local abundance of the interacting species are needed), we suggest that the well-known association between species frequency of interaction and species degree is a consequence rather than a cause, of the observed network structure.Comment: J. of. La implementación de medidas de liberalización comercial y el desarrollo de iniciativas de integración económica han sido dos de los principales rasgos de la política económica de los países del continente americano desde mediados de los noventa. Frente a esta dinámica, la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) asumió una serie de funciones encaminadas a apoyar las negociaciones comerciales adelantadas por los Estados, especialmente la negociación del Área de Libre Comercio de las Américas (ALCA), proceso determinante en la vinculación de la Organización con los temas comerciales. El presente comentario OPEC explica el contexto general en el que se produce la conexión de la OEA con el proyecto ALCA y la evolución de esta iniciativa, y explica las razones por la cuales se encuentra congelada en este momento. El tema de la Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (RSE) en México es incipiente, escaso y confuso por parte de la alta dirección ejecutiva y por parte de los consumidores (stakeholders), sin los cuales las empresas dejarían de existir. El estudio empírico aporta evidencias preliminares sobre la percepción de los consumidores ante la actuación de las empresas socialmente responsables por medio de criterios establecidos que describen la RSE, dirigido a estudiantes universitarios de la Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Administración Pública de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
