    Get PDF
This work is motivated by the goal to open up new markets and even replace existing technologies or materials using graphene as a disruptive technology. Only when graphene is used both as an improvement to existing material and in a transformational capacity, its true potential can be realised. Therefore, this project seeks to develop graphene fibres in order to utilise the advantages over carbon fibres for application in fibre-based devices including high strength, electrical and thermal conductivities, low cost, lightweight, and ease of functionalization. A simple and effective process combining pressure and centrifugal spinning has been developed and used to produce composite fibres consisting of graphene nanoplatelets. Thermoplastic polyurethane, phenolic resin and polyvinylpyrrolidone polymers were used as matrices. Precursor of carbon, polyacrylonitrile and graphene oxide were used in combination to study the effect of performing graphene fibre after pyrolysis. Processing parameters such as rotation speed, pressure and polymer concentration had a marked influence on the composite fibre diameter. Focused ion beam milling and etching verified the effective incorporation of the graphene nanoplatelets in the composite fibres. Morphological, rheological, physicochemical and thermal properties of the composite fibres were evaluated to uncover possible applications areas of these products

This research paper is carried out to examine the problem of school bullying in Malaysia and the effectiveness of a School Anti-Bullying Legislation in reducing this problem with reference to New Jersey and New York State Legislation. School bullying is a serious matter that affects everyone and occurs everywhere around the world including Malaysia. It can give negative effects to students either physically, psychologically or emotionally depending on the types of bullying whether physical or verbal bullying. Nevertheless, despite the continuance existence of the school bullying problem, Malaysia has no specific legislation to deal with this problem. The existence of the Penal Code (Act 574) and Child Act 2001 (Act 611) are inadequate to curb with the problem of school bullying. Both these legislations contain no specific provision on school bullying. As a result, this problem continues to rise. Besides, the school policies like School Safety policy is still ineffective in reducing bullying activities in school due to lack of enforcement and uniformity between each school. Accordingly, this research paper demonstrates the capability of New Jersey and New York to deal with the problem of school bullying. The availability of a School Anti-Bullying Legislation in these states has shown a decrease in the rate of school bullying. This shows the effectiveness of this legislation to curb with this problem. Due to this fact, this research paper proposes a specific legislation on school bullying to be enacted in Malaysia namely, School Anti-Bullying Legislation

The purpose of this study is to analyze the law pertaining to white collar crime in Malaysia with specific reference to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (the Act) in dealing with the offences of white collar crime in the nation. The practices of white collar crime are remained rampant despite the efforts done by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (the Commission). Malaysia as a nation strives on the vision to create an environment that is harmonious, united, constantly developing and of the high integrity. Such nation breeds communities that uphold dignity and performs the duties and responsibilities with high disciplines and dedication. Since decades, these fundamental elements have lost its grip that had led to a concern that has caused economic losses running billions and destroying the very basis of humanity and integrity. The act of white collar crime has long been a concern and its consequences leads to the destruction of the mortar that grips our economics. White collar crime also had created major imbalances in the economic, political and social strata. The unearthing of greed and selfishness, disrespect and disregard for policies and procedures and the blinding of transparency, results in the nation with low integrity. On the other hand, corruption involves not only middle class society but also higher ranking person in the society. Therefore, this research seeks propose a viable solution where affected parties can be protected and the corrupt be brought to justice

Collated Studies on Rectifying Circuit on Impact-Based Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting

    Get PDF
Nowadays, energy consumption for ultra-low power energy such as piezoelectric energy harvester has suffered a very huge power loss when rectifying the generated AC signal into regulated DC voltage. This paper presents a method on enhancing the efficiency of the proposed rectifier circuit on Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) piezoelectric disk. The experiment was conducted by actuating the transducer by applying one single impact pulse only from a weight-drop test setup. The aim of this study is to increase the efficiency of the extracted output power from piezoelectric by reducing the power losses during the rectification process. Enhancements were made by identifying factors affecting the generated output power from the transducer. Four different types of rectifier topologies were studied and optimized by varying the level of forward voltage drop, Vf across the diode. The enhancement of the generated output voltage from the harvester was also conducted by altering and specifically designed the mechanical configuration of the disk’s supporting base in order to increase the displacement of the piezoelectric strain. The system performances have been analyzed and the resulted data have been plotted into voltage and power curves against the resistive impedance. It was found that the power efficiency of full-wave bridge rectifier constructed with the lowest Vf, is the highest compared to the half-wave and the specialized voltage doubler rectifier

Teaming Up for Success: A Case for Collaborative Teaching in Malaysian Strategic Management Courses

    Get PDF
In higher education, research has repeatedly demonstrated the efficacy of collaborative learning as an educational technique. Higher education can benefit from using collaborative learning as an educational technique since it can raise student engagement, improve learning outcomes, and prepare them for future collaborative work settings. Today's varied and dynamic learning environment may make it impractical for traditional lecture and tutorial formats to fulfill the demands of every student. Thus, this study looks into how well collaborative teaching works for bachelor's degree students in a strategic management course. Based on the interactive questions from the industry panel, the study will specifically look at how collaborative teaching approaches affect students' capacity to apply theoretical concepts to real-world circumstances. Open-ended questions served as the basis for the thematic analysis used in this qualitative study. For a collaborative teaching session on strategic management, an industry panel was invited to give a talk. 308 bachelor's degree candidates enrolled in a 13-class course on strategic management made up the study's sample. Twice a week, before the session (preliminary survey) and during the session (session survey), data were gathered. For data processing, NVIVO version 14 software is utilized. Three categories comprise the results of the study: (1) pre-session findings; (2) in-session findings; and (3) post-session results. Each group of phases offered a response to the primary goal of the study through the use of a set of questions that were given to students via a gamification platform

    Get PDF
This paper evaluates the output efficiency and the frequency responses of a designed vibration-based impact mode piezoelectric power generator with additional interfaced plate. Indirect impact towards the piezoelectric disc is generated by sandwiching the interfaced plate between the piezoelectric disc and contact structure. The impact force can be varied by altering the bending stress of the beam. The output efficiency of the piezoelectric disc is found to increase about 87% by utilizing 1mm thickness of the vibrating beam compared to 2mm thickness. The output efficiency with the additional interfaced plate can harvest about 3 times higher than that of without the interfaced plate. In order to investigate the influence of the interfaced plate, two variables such as the interfaced plate’s diameter and height are studied. It is confirmed from the experimental results that the output of the piezoelectric disc is to be inversely proportional to the height and also to the diameter of the interfaced plate

The Halal industry in Malaysia has created employment opportunities especially among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). High demand for Halal products especially from Islamic countries has transformed the development of this sector into a national priority. In the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (11MP), the competitiveness of the Halal industry was given special emphasis by the Prime Minister. In Asia, Malaysia has long been considered as a leader in the development of the Halal sector.  However, the Halal industry is not only about Halal food production, but also covers Islamic finance services which prohibit interest (riba), uncertainties (gharar) and gambling (maysir). Islamic financial management is one of the important parts of Islamic finance because it plays a big role in providing Shariah-compliant funds and investment opportunities especially for the SME Halal entrepreneur. The holistic approach to the Halal industry should also cover not only food production but also Islamic financial management which includes activities such as how to create, increase, purify and to protect wealth from an Islamic perspective. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between the knowledge and acceptance of Islamic finance, and the application of Islamic financial management among halal entrepreneurs in Peninsular Malaysia. The findings of this study reveal that the knowledge and acceptance of Islamic finance is significantly correlated with the application of Islamic financial management among halal operators of SMEs. This indicates that to integrate the Halal industry with Islamic financial management activities, Halal entrepreneurs should be able to know and accept the Islamic finance principles. This will, in turn, facilitate the promotion of Malaysia’s Halal industries on the global stage. Keywords: Halal Industry, SMEs Halal entrepreneur, Islamic Financial Managemen
