Ultrathin cellulose ester films: preparation, characterization and protein immobilization

    Get PDF
In this study cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) and carboxymehtylcellulose acetate butyrate (CMCAB) films adsorbed onto silicon wafers were characterized by means of ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy (AFM), sum frequency generation spectroscopy (SFG) and contact angle measurements. The adsorption behavior of lysozyme (LIS) or bovine serum albumin (BSA) onto CAB and CMCAB films was investigated. The amounts of adsorbed LIS or BSA onto CMCAB films were more pronounced than those onto CAB films due to the presence of carboxymethyl group in the CMCAB structure. Besides, the adsorption of BSA molecules on CMCAB films was more favored than that of LIS molecules. Antimicrobial effect of LIS bound to CAB or CMCAB layers was evaluated using Micrococcus luteus as substrate.FAPESPCNPqCoordenacao de Aperfeicoamento de Pessoal de Nivel Superior (CAPES

    Bis(tetraphenylphosphonium) bis[N-(phenylsulfonyl)dithiocarbimato-κ2 S,S′]platinate(II) monohydrate

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C24H20P)2[Pt(C7H5NO2S3)2]·H2O, consists of two tetraphenylphosphonium cations, two half bis[N-(phenylsulfonyl)dithiocarbimato]platinate(II) dianions and one water molecule. The anions are completed by crystallographic inversion symmetry associated with the central PtII ion. The PtII ion is doubly S,S′-chelated by two symmetry-related phenylsulfonyldithiocarbimate ligands, forming a slightly distorted square-planar configuration. Besides the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in the crystal packing, intramolecular C—H⋯O and several intermolecular C—H⋯O, C—H⋯N and O—H⋯O hydrogen-bonding interactions between the cations, anions and water molecules are observed

In the title salt, (C24H20P)2[Pt(C7H3Cl2NO2S3)2], the PtII ion (site symmetry ) is coordinated by two S,S′-bidentate N-(2,5-dichlorophenylsulfonyl)dithiocarbimate ligands, resulting in a slightly distorted PtS4 square-planar geometry. In the crystal, a C—H⋯O interaction is observed, as well as electrostatic attraction between the oppositely charged ions

The title salt, (C24H20P)2[Zn(C2F3NO2S3)2], consists of a complex dianion and two tetraphenylphosphonium cations. The ZnII ion displays a distorted tetrahedral coordination environment with four S atoms from two S,S′-chelated N-(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)dithiocarbimate anions. In the crystal, besides the ionic interaction of the oppositely charged ions, intermolecular C—H⋯O interactions between cations and anions are observed. One of the cations interacts with an inversion-related equivalent by π–π stacking between phenyl rings, with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.932 (4) Å

Financial practices and physical health influencing financial health of Malaysian employees

Individuals make financial decisions throughout their working days to be financially well. Physical health and financial health of individual may be interrelated and determined the choice of financial practices that they performed. This study aimed to identify the interrelation between financial practices, physical health and financial health of employees. Important factors affecting financial health of employees are also identified. Prior to these, the employees’ levels of financial practices, health risks and financial health were determined. Four states selected from four zones in Peninsular Malaysia were sampled via multistage random sampling to obtain a target of 500 respondents. Selected agencies in those states were contacted to appoint liason officers who facilitated the data collection processes. Self-administered questionnaires distributed through them resulted in only 356 usable questionnaires. Findings revealed that among the financial practices, only investment was found to be not significantly correlated with financial health, however the regression results revealed that only savings was found to be influencing financial health. This reflected that other financial practices were not as important as savings to the financial health. Health risks were prevalent from the physical and mental measures of health with PCS and MCS slightly below the border of 50 while financial health was slightly above the midpoint of its scale. Older employees with higher income were revealed to have better financial health as compared to younger and lower income employees. Furthermore, only physical measure of health significantly influenced financial health but not mental health. As majority of these employees were young, the health risks may pose a risk on their job productivity and the impact on the quality of public services. Thus, it is critical for the government to forsee these health risks and financial health situation of their employees to ensure better outcomes for the public and country

Towards Urban Geopolitics of Encounter: Spatial Mixing in Contested Jerusalem

    Get PDF
The extent to which 'geographies of encounter' facilitate tolerance of diversity and difference has long been a source of debate in urban studies and human geography scholarship. However, to date this contestation has focused primarily on hyper-diverse cities in the global north-west. Adapting this debate to the volatile conditions of the nationally-contested city, this paper explores intergroup encounters between Israelis and Palestinians in Jerusalem. The paper suggests that in the context of hyper-polarisation of the nationally-contested urban space, the study of encounter should focus on macro-scale structural forces. In Jerusalem, we stress the role of ethnonationality and neoliberalism as key producers of its asymmetric and volatile yet highly resilient geography of intergroup encounters. In broader sense, as many cities worldwide experience a resurgence of ethnonationalism, illuminating the structural production of encounter may demarcate a broader function for reading contemporary urban geopolitics
