Double orifice mitral valve associated with Ventricular Septal Defect in an infant : case report
Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is an uncommon anomaly characterized by a
mitral valve with a single fibrous annulus with two orifices opening into the left
ventricle. Here we present a rare case of DOMV with ventricular septal defect (VSD)
which was detected by 2-D echocardiography.peer-reviewe
Comment on ``Solidification of a Supercooled Liquid in a Narrow Channel''
Comment on PRL v. 86, p. 5084 (2001) [cond-mat/0101016]. We point out that
the authors' simulations are consistent with the known theory of steady-state
solutions in this system
On the Finsler metrics obtained as limits of chessboard structures
We study the geodesics in a planar chessboard structure with two values 1 and
. The results for a fixed structure allow us to infer the properties
of the Finsler metrics obtained, with an homogenization procedure, as limit of
oscillating chessboard structures.Comment: 31 pages, 15 figure
Extending the scope of microscopic solvability: Combination of the Kruskal-Segur method with Zauderer decomposition
Successful applications of the Kruskal-Segur approach to interfacial pattern
formation have remained limited due to the necessity of an integral formulation
of the problem. This excludes nonlinear bulk equations, rendering convection
intractable. Combining the method with Zauderer's asymptotic decomposition
scheme, we are able to strongly extend its scope of applicability and solve
selection problems based on free boundary formulations in terms of partial
differential equations alone. To demonstrate the technique, we give the first
analytic solution of the problem of velocity selection for dendritic growth in
a forced potential flow.Comment: Submitted to Europhys. Letters, No figures, 5 page
Angioarchitectural evolution of clival dural arteriovenous fistulas in two patients.
Dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) may present in a variety of ways, including as carotid-cavernous sinus fistulas. The ophthalmologic sequelae of carotid-cavernous sinus fistulas are known and recognizable, but less commonly seen is the rare clival fistula. Clival dAVFs may have a variety of potential anatomical configurations but are defined by the involvement of the venous plexus just overlying the bony clivus. Here we present two cases of clival dAVFs that most likely evolved from carotid-cavernous sinus fistulas
