Stellar Models and Yields of Asymptotic Giant Branch Stars

We present stellar yields calculated from detailed models of low and intermediate-mass asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. We evolve models with a range of mass from 1 to 6Msun, and initial metallicities from solar to 1/200th of the solar metallicity. Each model was evolved from the zero age main sequence to near the end of the thermally-pulsing AGB phase, and through all intermediate phases including the core He-flash for stars initially less massive than 2.5Msun. For each mass and metallicity, we provide tables containing structural details of the stellar models during the TP-AGB phase, and tables of the stellar yields for 74 species from hydrogen through to sulphur, and for a small number of iron-group nuclei. All tables are available for download. Our results have many applications including use in population synthesis studies and the chemical evolution of galaxies and stellar systems, and for comparison to the composition of AGB and post-AGB stars and planetary nebulae.Comment: 26 pages; to appear in Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia (PASA); typos fixed in the text and in Tables 4 and

PDFThis research project has the objective of examining the deficiencies existing in the development of the writing skill in students of Ninth Grade of General Basic Education from “República de Francia” Public High School during the 2019 – 2020 school year. Initial observation allowed identifying that students were struggling when trying to produce simple written compositions using appropriate grammatical features. The problem was also enhanced when students tried to use basic expressions related to their personal information and or daily routines. The lack of awareness on appropriate Simple Present language features along with the little use of didactic resources to motivate their written compositions has affected their writing development. In order to find what was causing the problems in the development of this skill, articles and current literature were reviewed which allowed gaining better understanding on possible solutions to the problem. This situation makes necessary a solution, which can be addressed by the implementation of didactic resources such as flashcards for sentences structuring, based on frequency adverbs. These theories support the relevance of the use of didactic materials for enhancing students’ grammar awareness and writing skill. Furthermore, the techniques and instruments applied for the data collection process and its later analysis of the results confirmed there was a deficiency on the development of the written production, limiting students from producing adequate writing products. It is suggested that didactic material such as flashcards can help improving students’ written production, a proposal constituted in a series of activities for using frequency flashcards in simple present writing was designed as a complementary resource to reinforce students’ writing.

En la interpretación de los resultados se pudo deducir que los métodos didácticos que practican los maestros es el tradicional y poco constructivista por lo cual tiene baja influencia en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje de los estudiantes, por este motivo se puede concluir que una guía interactiva con estrategias lúdicas para el desarrollo de las habilidades comunicativas en el proceso de lectoescritura puede servir de apoyo a los maestros para que practiquen estrategias activas con recursos didácticos interactivos manteniendo el interés y estilo de aprendizaje de cada discenteIn this research it can be seen that currently teachers use the traditional and not very constructivist teaching method when teaching their classes, which leads us to conclude that there are learning barriers for students, since this type of Teaching causes shortcomings in the development of communication skills, feeling limited when wanting to express and communicate, many students do not have these skills developed, since the teacher does not use the necessary methodologies that allow students to interact with each other and be interested in The matter. In this way, the objective is to determine the influence of communication skills in the reading-writing process in order to design an interactive guide with playful strategies for the teaching-learning process of 2nd grade students of basic education, for which the methodology used is qualitative and quantitative, bibliographic and field, exploratory and field research, based on theoretical methods of analysis and synthesis, using the survey instruments applied to students and teachers, and the checklist practiced in the classroom. of classes with the teacher tutor of the Río Yasuní Basic Education School. Effectiveness of a blended group transdiagnostic treatment for emotional disorders: Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Introduction Emotional disorders (ED) (mood and anxiety disorders) are very prevalent and disabling, and often appear in comorbid presentations. Although there are effective treatments for these disorders, there is still a large gap between the number of people who need them and those who actually receive them. The combination of three strategies may help in this regard, facilitating the dissemination and accessibility of treatment: the transdiagnostic perspective of ED, the group format, and the use of technologies in a blended format (i.e., the combination of online and face-to-face therapy elements). This study intends to compare the efficacy of a new ED intervention, a transdiagnostic group treatment protocol administered in a blended format, with that of a face-to-face treatment. This article describes the study protocol for the randomized controlled trial. Method and analyses A two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) will be conducted. Participants (N = 144) will be adult volunteers suffering from DSM-5 anxiety and/or depressive disorders and will be randomly assigned to one of two conditions: Face-to-face Group Transdiagnostic Protocol or Blended Group Transdiagnostic Protocol. The face-to-face condition will consist of a total of 16 weekly face-to-face group sessions, while the blended condition will consist of 8 biweekly face-to-face group sessions in combination with self-applied work through a web platform. Clinical and acceptability measures will be included in both groups. Assessments will be performed at baseline, during the treatment, at post-treatment, and at 3-, 6- and 12-month follow-ups. This study received the approval of the Ethics Committee of Universitat Jaume I in October 2021 (CD/91/2021). Intention-to-treat analyses will be performed. Statistical analyses will be carried out using SPSS version 28.0. The results will be reported in accordance with CONSORT recommendations. Discussion This is the first RCT to compare the effectiveness of an ED treatment protocol based on the transdiagnostic perspective and applied in group and blended format. It will offer relevant data to continue moving forward towards treatment alternatives that are cost-effective and more accessible, so that all patients with ED who require them can benefit

Long-term Effectiveness and Predictors of Transdiagnostic Internet-Delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Emotional Disorders in Specialized Care: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Transdiagnostic internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for emotional disorders has been shown to be effective in specialized care in the short term. However, less is known about its long-term effects in this specific setting. In addition, predictors of long-term effectiveness may help to identify what treatments are more suitable for certain individuals. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the long-term effectiveness of transdiagnostic iCBT compared with that of treatment as usual (TAU) in specialized care and explore predictors of long-term effectiveness. Methods: Mixed models were performed to analyze the long-term effectiveness and predictors of transdiagnostic iCBT (n=99) versus TAU (n=101) in public specialized mental health care. Outcomes included symptoms of depression and anxiety, health-related quality of life (QoL), behavioral inhibition and behavioral activation, comorbidity, and diagnostic status (ie, loss of principal diagnosis) from baseline to 1-year follow-up. Sociodemographic characteristics (sex, age, and education) and clinical variables (principal diagnosis, comorbidity, and symptom severity at baseline) were selected as predictors of long-term changes. Results: Compared with baseline, transdiagnostic iCBT was more effective than TAU in improving symptoms of depression (b=–4.16, SE 1.80, 95% CI –7.68 to –0.67), health-related QoL (b=7.63, SE 3.41, 95% CI 1.00-14.28), diagnostic status (b=–0.24, SE 0.09, 95% CI –1.00 to –0.15), and comorbidity at 1-year follow-up (b=–0.58, SE 0.22, 95% CI –1.00 to –0.15). From pretreatment assessment to follow-up, anxiety symptoms improved in both transdiagnostic iCBT and TAU groups, but no significant differences were found between the groups. Regarding the predictors of the long-term effectiveness of transdiagnostic iCBT compared with that of TAU, higher health-related QoL at follow-up was predicted by a baseline diagnosis of anxiety, male sex, and the use of psychiatric medication; fewer comorbid disorders at follow-up were predicted by older age and higher baseline scores on health-related QoL; and fewer depressive symptoms at follow-up were predicted by baseline diagnosis of depression. However, this pattern was not observed for baseline anxiety diagnoses and anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: The results suggest that transdiagnostic iCBT is more effective than TAU to target depressive symptoms among patients with emotional disorders. Anxiety symptoms remained stable at 1-year follow-up, with no differences between the groups. Results on predictors suggest that some groups of patients may obtain specific gains after transdiagnostic iCBT. Specifically, and consistent with the literature, patients with baseline depression improved their depression scores at follow-up. However, this pattern was not found for baseline anxiety disorders. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the family environment due to the difficulties that have been generated by job losses, deaths, increase rates of family and domestic violence, poor mental health outcomes, and estrangement in personal relationships. “Family Connections” (FC) is an internationally renowned DBT-based program that supports the families and caregivers of people with borderline personality disorder. The study took place at a Specialized Health Centre in Spain. A focus group with seven participants was organized for people who had previously attended an FC group. The participants were asked about their experiences during the confinement periods that was caused by COVID-19 as well as their experiences and opinions on relatives, skills practiced, their need to and the advantages of attending the group, and satisfaction with the FC group. The qualitative research web program Dedoose was used for the thematic analysis of the data. The results showed that the participants experienced various experiences during confinement; validation and radical acceptance were determined to be the most useful skills; the importance of professionals and the content as well as the sincerity of attendees and having a safe space were determined to be the greatest benefits of the programs; and the participants all indicated great satisfaction of the program. This study allowed us to explore the experiences of family members of people with BPD with their loved ones during the confinement period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We evaluated the use of the FC program skills in the family environment during confinement, and we analyzed the acceptability and satisfaction with the FC program
