    Thermal stability of the cu-ceo2 interface on silica and alumina, and its relation with activity in the oxidation reaction of co and the decomposition of n2o

    Indexación: Scopus; Scielo.The effect of the support on the formation of the Cu-CeO2 interface and its thermal stability after calcination at 500, 700 and 900 °C is studied. The supports used are SiO2, because of its inert character, and Al2O3, because it can interact with the Cu and Ce species on the surface. The catalysts were characterized by BET, XRD, UV-vis DRS, and TPR with H2. The catalytic activity in the CO oxidation reactions with O2 at low temperature and the decomposition of N2O were selected to visualize the effect of temperature on the concentration of Cu-CeO2 interfacial sites. The results show that at a calcination temperature of 500 °C the formation of the Cu-CeO2 interface is favored over the SiO2 support. However, the stability of the Cu-CeO2 interface on SiO2 is much lower than on Al2O3, causing a substantial decrease of the interfacial sites calcining at 700 °C, and segregation of the Cu and Ce species on the surface of the silica, with complete loss of the catalytic activity in both reactions when calcining at 900 °C. In contrast, on alumina the Cu-CeO2 interface is more stable and presents a significant catalytic activity in both reactions, even when calcining at 900 °C.     Activity of alumina supported fe catalysts for N2O decomposition: Effects of the iron content and thermal treatment

    Indexación: Scopus.The activity of Fe2O3/Al2O3 catalysts prepared by impregnation of Al2O3 with different amounts of Fe and calcination temperatures (650 and 900 °C) in the direct N2O decomposition reaction was studied. High calcination temperature was introduced to study the effect of "aging", which are the conditions prevailing in the process-gas option for N2O abatement. The catalysts were characterized by BET, XRD, UV-DRS, and H2-TPR. The incorporation of Fe promotes the alumina phase transition (g-Al2O3 to a-Al2O3) when the catalysts are calcined at 900 °C, which is accompanied by a decrease in the specifc area. The activity of the catalysts and the specifc surface area depend on Fe loading and calcination temperature. It was found that highly dispersed Fe species are more active than bulk type Fe2O3 particles. We conclude that Fe2O3/Al2O3 catalysts prepared by impregnation method are active in the decomposition of N2O, to be used at low or high reaction temperatures (tail-gas or process-gas treatments, respectively), as part of nitric acid production plant. © 2018 Sociedad Chilena de Quimica.     Short-Range Ordered Phase of the Double-Exchange Model in Infinite Dimensions

    Using dynamical mean-field theory, we have evaluated the magnetic instabilities and T=0 phase diagram of the double-exchange model on a Bethe lattice in infinite dimensions. In addition to ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AF) phases, we also study a class of disordered phases with magnetic short-range order (SRO). In the weak-coupling limit, a SRO phase has a higher transition temperature than the AF phase for all fillings p below 1 and can even have a higher transition temperature than the FM phase. At T=0 and for small Hund's coupling J_H, a SRO state has lower energy than either the FM or AF phases for 0.26\le p 0 limit but appears for any non-zero value of J_H.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, published versio

    Gravitational Instantons from Gauge Theory

    A gauge theory can be formulated on a noncommutative (NC) spacetime. This NC gauge theory has an equivalent dual description through the so-called Seiberg-Witten (SW) map in terms of an ordinary gauge theory on a commutative spacetime. We show that all NC U(1) instantons of Nekrasov-Schwarz type are mapped to ALE gravitational instantons by the exact SW map and that the NC gauge theory of U(1) instantons is equivalent to the theory of hyper-Kaehler geometries. It implies the remarkable consequence that ALE gravitational instantons can emerge from local condensates of purely NC photons.Comment: 4 pages with two columns; comments and references added, to appear in Phys.     Poisson-Lie T-duality and N=2 superconformal WZNW models on compact groups

    The supersymmetric generalization of Pisson-Lie T-duality in N=2 superconformal WZNW models on the compact groups is considered. It is shown that the role of Drinfeld's doubles play the complexifications of the corresponding compact groups. These complex doubles are used to define the natural actions of the isotropic subgroups forming the doubles on the group manifolds of the N=2 superconformal WZNW models. The Poisson- Lie T-duality in N=2 superconformal U(2)-WZNW model considered in details. It is shown that this model admits Poisson-Lie symmetries with respect to the isotropic subgroups forming Drinfeld's double Gl(2,C). Poisson-Lie T-duality transformation maps this model into itself but acts nontrivialy on the space of classical solutions. Supersymmetric generalization of Poisson-Lie T-duality in N=2 superconformal WZNW models on the compact groups of higher dimensions is proposed.Comment: 12 pages, latex, misprints correcte

    Altered expression of neuroplasticity-related genes in the brain of depressed suicides

    Background: Expression of the neuronal membrane glycoprotein M6a (GPM6A), the proteolipid protein (PLP/DM20) family member, is downregulated in the hippocampus of chronically stressed animals. Its neuroplastic function involves a role in neurite formation, filopodium outgrowth and synaptogenesis through an unknown mechanism. Disruptions in neuroplasticity mechanisms have been shown to play a significant part in the etiology of depression. Thus, the current investigation examined whether GPM6A expression is also altered in human depressed brain. Methods: Expression levels and coexpression patterns of GPM6A, GPM6B, and PLP1 (two other members of PLP/DM20 family) as well as of the neuroplasticity-related genes identified to associate with GPM6A were determined using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in postmortem samples from the hippocampus (. n=. 18) and the prefrontal cortex (PFC) (. n=. 25) of depressed suicide victims and compared with control subjects (hippocampus n=. 18; PFC n=. 25). Neuroplasticity-related proteins that form complexes with GPM6A were identified by coimmunoprecipitation technique followed by mass spectrometry. Results: Results indicated transcriptional downregulation of GPM6A and GPM6B in the hippocampus of depressed suicides. The expression level of calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (CAMK2A) and coronin1A (CORO1A) was also significantly decreased. Subsequent analysis of coexpression patterns demonstrated coordinated gene expression in the hippocampus and in the PFC indicating that the function of these genes might be coregulated in the human brain. However, in the brain of depressed suicides this coordinated response was disrupted. Conclusions: Disruption of coordinated gene expression as well as abnormalities in GPM6A and GPM6B expression and expression of the components of GPM6A complexes were detected in the brain of depressed suicides.Fil: Fuchsova, Beata.     Evaluation of design recommendations for the development of wheelchair rugby sports-wear

    Currently, wheelchair rugby athletes face the challenges of playing the sport without specifically designed sports-wear kit. A few designs and recommendations have already been proposed by researchers but none have made it to market yet. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a set of design recommendations for the development of wheelchair rugby sports-wear. This was done so that the products to be created are developed in collaboration with their potential users, responding to their particular needs and requirements. The evaluation was done through an online survey, where the athletes were presented with a visual representation of the design recommendations. The results indicate that the people questioned agree with the majority of the proposed designs and would be happy to have these improvements made to their current sports-wear. The most criticised recommendations were for the gloves, as they are the most important part of the kit, so it is important that they are adequate and allow for a good performance

    Clustering in disordered ferromagnets: The Curie temperature in diluted magnetic semiconductors

    We theoretically investigate impurity correlation and magnetic clustering effects on the long-range ferromagnetic ordering in diluted magnetic semiconductors, such as Ga1xMnxAs\textrm{Ga}_{1-x}\textrm{Mn}_{x}\textrm{As}, using analytical arguments and direct Monte Carlo simulations. We obtain an analytic formula for the ferromagnetic transition temperature TcT_{c} which becomes asymptotically exact in the strongly disordered, highly dilute (i.e. small xx) regime. We establish that impurity correlations have only small effects on TcT_{c} with the neutrally correlated random disorder producing the nominally highest TcT_{c}. We find that the ferromagnetic order is approached from the high temperature paramagnetic side through a random magnetic clustering phenomenon consistent with the percolation transition scenario.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
