    Aquest article es proposa oferir una panoràmica global de les principals aportacions de la Romanística alemanya als estudis lingüístics catalans, amb especial atenció als treballs sobre lingüística sincrònica i les obres lexicogràfiques bilingües de les llengües catalana i alemanya. El nostre recorregut explicatiu per les línies bàsiques d’investigació que n’han marcat el desenvolupament en les darreres dècades mostrarà la continuïtat de la presència de la llengua catalana en el discurs acadèmic germanoparlant i una tendència evolutiva que ha anat des dels primers treballs que maldaven per reivindicar un estatus per al català semblant a la resta d’idiomes romànics o fixar la seva filiació tipològica cap a la diversificació que vivim en el moment actual, en la qual observem periòdicament l’aparició de nous estudis sobre aspectes diversos de la fonètica, morfologia, sintaxi, pragmàtica o lexicologia del català, molts d’ells articulats entorn dels nuclis que al llarg dels anys han anat consolidant grups de catalanòfils com l’Associació Germano-Catalana (Deutsch-Katalanische Gesellschaft) o l’equip editorial de la "Zeitschrift für Katalanistik", entre altres

    Institutional effects as determinants of learning outcomes : exploring state variations in Mexico

    This paper uses the OECD's Program for International Student Assessment student-level achievement database for Mexico to estimate state education production functions, controlling for student characteristics, family background, home inputs, resources, and institutions. The authors take advantage of the state-level variation and representative sample to analyze the impact of institutional factors such as state accountability systems and the role of teachers'unions in student achievement. They argue that accountability, through increased use of state assessments, will improve learning outcomes. The authors also cast light on the role of teachers'unions, namely their strength through appointments to the school and relations with state governments. The analysis shows the importance of good relations between states and unions.     Watson's theorem and the NΔ(1232)N\Delta(1232) axial transition

    We present a new determination of the NΔN\Delta axial form factors from neutrino induced pion production data. For this purpose, the model of Hernandez {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. D76, 033005 (2007)] is improved by partially restoring unitarity. This is accomplished by imposing Watson's theorem on the dominant vector and axial multipoles. As a consequence, a larger C5A(0)C_5^A(0), in good agreement with the prediction from the off-diagonal Goldberger-Treiman relation, is now obtained.Comment: 17 latex pages, 7 figures, 2 tables.     Charged current neutrino induced coherent pion production

    We analyze the neutrino induced charged current coherent pion production at the energies of interest for recent experiments like K2K and MiniBooNE. Medium effects in the production mechanism and the distortion of the pion wave function, obtained solving the Klein Gordon equation with a microscopic optical potential, are included in the calculation. We find a strong reduction of the cross section due to these effects and also substantial modifications of the energy distributions of the final lepton and pion.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures.     Masses and magnetic moments of ground-state baryons in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory

    We report on some recent developments in our understanding of the light-quark mass dependence and the SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking corrections to the magnetic moments of the ground-state baryons in a covariant formulation of baryon chiral perturbation theory, the so-called EOMS formulation.     O artigo aborda a questão da diferença entre a grande quantidade de relatos orais que atribuem ditos proféticos a Antônio Conselheiro, líder do arraial de Canudos, e a absoluta ausência desses em seus escritos. Esse silêncio parece ter algo de significativo a dizer ao historiador; para tentar entendê-lo formulei cinco hipóteses que discuto ao longo da comunicação, após uma breve introdução do problema e da obra do Conselheiro. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis article deals with the difference between what has been said concerning prophecies supposedly proferred by Antônio Conselheiro, the leader of Canudos and the complete absence of prophetical sayings in his writings. The silence involving this matter seems to be relevant to the historian; trying to understand it I formulated five hypothesis that are discussed along the text, following a brief introduction of the problem and of Conselheiro's work
