No firmó porque dijo no saber: literate and illiterate speakers in notarial documents of the corpus CODEA of the 16th and 17th centuries
During the 16th and 17th centuries, many notarial documents in Spain, signally those of a
private nature, as contracts, began to include the signature (or a note on the incapacity to
sign) of the parts. This change occurred in the context of increased literacy rates and of a
reform of the notarial activities. In this paper, we investigate 1000 documents of these centuries
contained in the linguistic corpus CODEA. Through a distinction between probatory,
dispositive and petitionary documents, and between documents written by professionals
(notaries) and non-professionals, the paper reflects on the possibilities of research offered
by the data contained in these documents

Listening to the texts : analyse of texts in the investigation about phonetics of old stages of the Spanish language
This paper deals with the relationship between
graphical traits of older texts in Spanish (from
the Middle Ages until the 19th century) and the
phonetical and phonological reality the graphical
traits sometimes hide or disguise. Infrequent
ways of writing a word or words, rhyme, rhythm,
puns and the explicit opinions of the
contemporaries about pronunciation changes in
a region or between some speakers give us a
precious information. The article also shows how
the several types of edition deal with the
graphical traits of these texts.
alfonsí nos hace suponer que sí.Among the books of the library of the dukes of Osuna, there
was a Pharsalia in Castilian language, now held in the Biblioteca Nacional de España, ms. 10805. This is the Pharsalia translation made by Alfonsine translators to include it afterwards in the Quinta Parte of the "General Estoria". Has Íñigo López de Mendoza ever owned this manuscript?
A textual comparison between his work and the lessons of this

In this paper, we study the presence of evil and sin in Alfonso the Wise’s General Estoria, huge historial compilation from the 13th century, in Spanish, covering from the beginnings of humanity until the time of Christ’s birth. First, the possible dependence of the Estoria’s sin organization from several medieval classifications of sin is discussed, then the relationship between the conception of sin in the General Estoria and in the legal works of Alfonso’s (Setenario, Partidas). Afterwards, the conception and treatment of each sin throughout the six Parts of the work is analysed. Key words: Alfonso X, medieval historiography, medieval literature, sin and sins, General Estoria, Setenario, Partidas, Bible, Ovid, Luca
