    Reshaping the teaching of anatomy: tensions affecting the introductory undergraduate course

    Este artigo pretende iniciar a discussão da condição curricular da Anatomia Humana nos cursos médicos da atualidade frente a tensões que incidem sobre ela, que a podem estar levando a uma crise de manutenção de seu status sociocurricular. Baseamo-nos na análise bibliográfica e documental, conjugando as teorias sócio-históricas da construção dos currículos e disciplinas, a construção da Anatomia nos currículos médicos e condições gerais de apresentação da disciplina nestes currículos para elencarmos quatro tensões para a discussão: introdução de novas propostas de ensino-aprendizado; relação anatomia ensinada, anatomia pesquisada; expansão do ensino; reconfiguração do campo de inserção. Nossa análise nos leva a assinalar uma crise na retórica legitimadora da disciplina, com consequente redução do grau de importância sociocurricular e possível cristalização disciplinar.This article aims to launch a discussion on the current undergraduate course curriculum in Human Anatomy and the tensions affecting it, which could be placing the course's social and curricular status in jeopardy. Our study is based on a literature review and document analysis, combining social and historical theories with the development of course curricula and disciplines, Human Anatomy in medical curricula, and the general conditions in which this course is presented in curricula, in order to list four tensions for discussion: introduction of new teaching-learning proposals; the relationship between anatomy as taught and anatomy as research; the expansion of teaching; and reshaping the field for inclusion of anatomy. Our analysis reveals a crisis in the underlying rhetoric of the course, resulting in a reduction in its social and curricular importance and a possible crystallization of the discipline

    The objective of this chapte rwas to define the scope of the analysis and conclude the overall impact of the given recommendationsonCercica’s2019 negative operational margin. The scope was defined by analyzing (1) the pain points that should be investigated, through an online survey and interviews, and (2) the BUs that have been underperforming, considering financial statements and documents granted by the organization. The highlighted pain points included topics on Financial Resources, Human Resources and Strategy. Investigation on Cercica’s operational performance led to the selection of5 Bus. Recommendations were given to explore the areas of improvement, rising the negative operational margin to stand between 0.2%-2.8%.Moreover, general recommendations were also manifested to intervene on the areas of continuous improvement considered within the scope

    Pedro Teixeira and the Early Modern scientificity regarding the Past

    UID/HIS/04666/2013Long before the physical and linguistic rediscovery of Oriental Antiquity, during the 19th-century, echoes of its cultures reverberated in Europe, through the knowledge of the Classics and the Old Testament. The Early Modern travellers, who crossed the lands of the Near and Middle East, tried to accommodate those venerable echoes into what they experienced in loco, which more regularly than expected was dissonant. This process constitutes an early form of reception of Antiquity, which broke the frontiers of time. Pedro Teixeira, amongst others, left his impressions regarding present, but more particularly, regarding past Oriental alterities, in an intertwined analysis of both his cultural framework and the local data he came across with. By doing so, he challenged the frontiers of knowledge of his time. Moreover, his thorough analysis displays a scientificity that seldom is manifested in merchants and soldiers, as he was. Thus, we propose to examine his travel accounts, hoping to highlight a case-study of the Portuguese contribution to the deconstruction of some misconceptions about the Oriental alterity.authorsversionpublishe

    glyptic symbology from the Dyala region (4th–3rd millennia BC)

    UID/HIS/04666/2019The importance of the rivers on the birth of Mesopotamian civilization is well known. One of these fluvial courses, the Dyala, an affluent of the Tigris, brought fertility to its region, which had a substantial geo-strategic importance given that it linked the aluvial Mesopotamian area with the Iranian plateau. During the transition from the 4th to the 3rd millennia BC, the Dyala region saw the rise of urbanism, and in centuries to come Ešnunna (Tell Asmar) would rise as one of the key powers in Mesopotamia. The archaeological excavations in this region, during the 1930’s and 1940’s, led by the Oriental Institute of Chicago, brought to light several sites dating back to the 4th millennium BC. Some of them display data that confirms a continuous occupation until the First Babylonian dynasty (19th century BC). Hence, the analysis of its material culture affirms itself as an excellent case-study to identify the multiple layers and traits of this civilization. In what concerns the religious sphere, the material found in the cultic structures, namely the cylinder seals and its symbolic content, can help to shed light on the religious thought and practices in Early times. Following the work we have been developing together in the last couple of years, focused on the Mesopotamian Divine Feminine representations, with this paper we propose to analyse the feminine symbols present in the cylinder seals found in three archaeological sites of Dyala (Tell Agrab, Khafajah, and Tell Asmar).publishersversionpublishe

    Paratrichodorus divergens sp. n., a new potential virus vector of tobacco rattle virus and additional observations on P. hispanus Roca & Arias, 1986 from Portugal (Nematoda: Trichodoridae)

    During a survey of trichodorids in Continental Portugal, a new trichodorid species, Paratrichodorus divergens sp. n., was found. It is described and illustrated with specimens from the type locality and additional morphometric data and photographs of specimens obtained from soil samples collected in seven other localities are also included. The species is characterised in female by distinct drop-like to triangular oblique vaginal sclerotisations diverging outwards, sperm cells usually distributed all through the uteri, and in male by thin, almost straight, striated spicules, the two posteriormost pre-cloacal supplements relatively close to one another and usually opposite the distal third of retracted spicules, a slightly bilobed cloacal lip and sperm cells with sausage-shaped nucleus. Paratrichodorus divergens sp. n. most closely resembles P. hispanus Roca & Arias, 1986 with which it often occurs in mixed populations. Additional information is also provided for P. hispanus.     Este artigo é resultante de uma pesquisa de pós-doutoramento, a qual envolveu investigações de natureza bibliográfica sob a perspectiva do pensamento pedagógico do educador francês Georges Snyders (1917-2011). O objetivo principal do artigo é apresentar o potencial de contribuição das teorizações snyderianas (relativo a Georges Snyders), em especial no que tange à questão do saber ensinado e da alegria no aprender, a fim de derivar subsídios para o campo da pedagogia universitária, pedagogia implicada com os desafios atuais postos ao ensino superior. Tal objetivo origina-se da seguinte questão problematizadora: de que modo os pressupostos snyderianos, especialmente os conceitos de saber e alegria no aprender, podem somar às discussões do campo da pedagogia universitária? Para a consecução do objetivo em referência são abordadas as seguintes questões: a pedagogia universitária no panorama social e educacional de novas demandas apresentadas à universidade e aos seus docentes; fundamentos teóricos da pedagogia progressista snyderiana, precisamente os conceitos de saber ensinado e alegria; e, ainda, possibilidades de contribuições do posicionamento pedagógico snyderiano em prol da renovação do saber e da alegria no aprender na universidade. Destaca-se que o desenvolvimento da presente discussão se norteia pela perspectiva de qualificar pedagogicamente a ação formativa no ensino superior, ação esta comprometida com a melhoria qualitativa da formação humana e profissional dos estudantes.This article results from a post-doctoral research that involved investigations of bibliographic nature under the perspective of pedagogical thinking of French educator Georges Snyders (1917-2011). It is aimed at presenting the contribution potential of Snyders’ theories, particularly regarding the issue of knowledge taught and joy in learning in order to derive benefits for the field of university pedagogy. Such pedagogy is involved in the current challenges faced by higher education. This aim arises from the following problem question: how can Snyders’ assumptions, especially the concepts of knowledge and joy in learning, add up to the discussions of the field of university pedagogy? To reach such aim, the following issues are addressed: the university pedagogy in the educational and social panorama of new demands presented to the university and its faculty; theoretical foundations of Snyders’ progressive pedagogy, precisely the concepts of knowledge taught and joy; and also the possibilities of contributions of Snyders’ pedagogical positioning towards the renewal of knowledge and joy in learning at university. The development of this discussion is guided by the perspective of educationally qualifying the formative action in higher education.     Os fundamentos da atribuição da nacionalidade e o estabelecimento da filiação

    Com este trabalho pretendemos abordar a matéria da atribuição da nacionalidade portuguesa nos termos do art.º 1 n. º1 al. c) e d) da Lei da Nacionalidade, ou seja, a atribuição da nacionalidade por efeito da vontade com fundamento em ter nascido no estrangeiro e ser descendente direto de um progenitor português ou ser descendente direto em 2.º grau da linha reta de um progenitor português e que nunca tenha perdido a nacionalidade portuguesa. Relacionado com esta temática iremos analisar os critérios que estão subjacentes na lei da nacionalidade o “ius sanguinis” e o “ius soli” e ainda um terceiro critério que está em paridade com estes critérios “a vontade dos interessados”. Iremos proceder ao estudo histórico das diversas leis da nacionalidade e da relevância que em cada época estes critérios tiveram na concessão da nacionalidade portuguesa. Abordaremos a nacionalidade europeia e os princípios da nacionalidade que estão subjacentes ao direito da nacionalidade. Estudaremos os fundamentos da atribuição da nacionalidade nos termos do art.1 n.º 1 al. c) e d), nomeadamente, o estabelecimento da filiação, como questão prévia á atribuição da nacionalidade que importa resolver para que possa ser concedida a nacionalidade por atribuição tendo em conta a aplicação das leis no tempo. Analisaremos a forma do pedido, os documentos necessários á instrução do processo, os incidentes processuais na tramitação, o contencioso, o registo da nacionalidade e o seu valor.With this work we intend to approach the question of Portuguese nationality under the terms of article 1 n. º1 al. c) and d) of the Nationality Law, that is, the attribution of nationality. by effect of the will based on having been born abroad and being a direct descendant of a Portuguese parent or being a direct descendant in second degree of the straight line of a parent Portuguese who never lost Portuguese nationality. Related to this theme, we will analyze the underlying criteria in the nationality law of “ius sanguinis” and “ius soli”, and also a third criterion that is in parity with these criteria, “the will of the candidates”. We will proceed to the historical study of the different laws of nationality and importance that these different criteria have in each period when granting Portuguese nationality. We will address European nationality and the principles of nationality that underlie nationality law. We will study the fundamentals of the birth of nationality under the terms of article 1 no. 1 al. c) and d), namely the establishment of affiliation, as an issue prior to the nationality obligation that must be resolved so that nationality is fully granted taking into account the application of the law over time.     Caracterização das actividades pedagógicas promotoras do desenvolvimento das competências visuais que influenciam a iniciação à leitura e à escrita

    RESUMO: A presente tese de dissertação de mestrado visa a contribuição para o enriquecimento da organização curricular da Educação Pré-Escolar. Baseia-se num estudo de natureza estatística descritiva, desenvolvido junto de uma amostra de vinte e três Educadores de Infância, dos Jardins de Infância do Concelho de Lourinhã, através da aplicação de um questionário, que procura caracterizar as actividades promotoras de competências visuais, quanto ao grau de importância e de frequência, no que constituem os pré requisitos para a leitura e a escrita. Os resultados sugerem a necessidade de uma maior sistematização dessas actividades e demonstram que um número significativo de actividades são desenvolvidas, neste âmbito, pelos educadores de infância, havendo, no entanto, aspectos considerados lógicos por autores como a Barraga e a Chapman, que não são geralmente considerados. A ênfase das conclusões é colocada, na necessidade de alargar o leque de actividades promotoras dos pré-requisitos para a iniciação à leitura e escrita e às actividades previstas nos Programas Educativos Individuais, para crianças com baixa visão, através da articulação com o docente de educação especial, de forma a que a sua intervenção especializada envolva todos os aspectos considerados fundamentais no treino de visão destas crianças. ABSTRACT: This master’s degree thesis is based on a descriptive statistical study, conducted with a sample of twenty three preschool Teachers working in public kindergartens in Lourinhã, Portugal. The study was based on the results of a questionnaire aimed at contributing to enrich preschool Curricula. The study was based on the scientific knowledge of the precise classroom activities which contribute to develop visual abilities needed for reading and writing. The activities were characterized according to their importance and frequency. The results suggest that these activities should be more planned and more organised. It showed a significant number of activities which are prepared on a regular basis and considered important but, on the other hand; it also showed a significant number of activities which are prepared occasionally. The emphasis of the conclusions is on the fact that the Curricula should include a larger range of activities that promote visual abilities needed for reading and writing and that Individual Educational Programs for low vision children, which include specific activities for vision training, should be built in team with the classroom teacher. In addition, Special Education Teacher’s program should contemplate all the aspects that the Preschool teachers do not, in order to involve all the important aspects for vision training
