Nonhazardous acid etches weld samples
Nonhazardous citric acid solution used with 24 volt dc power supply etches weld samples. This etching method is limited to 300 stainless steel and a small range of other high temperature alloys
Semiconductors can be tested without removing them from circuitry
Oscilloscope, with specially developed test circuitry, quickly checks semiconductors without removing them from the circuitry. For transistors, approximate gain and linearity, as well as PNP or NPN determinations are made. When testing diodes, open or short circuits, and reverse polarity show up plainly
Waveforms for Gravitational Radiation from Cosmic String Loops
We obtain general formulae for the plus- and cross- polarized waveforms of
gravitational radiation emitted by a cosmic string loop in transverse,
traceless (synchronous, harmonic) gauge. These equations are then specialized
to the case of piecewise linear loops, and it is shown that the general
waveform for such a loop is a piecewise linear function. We give several simple
examples of the waveforms from such loops. We also discuss the relation between
the gravitational radiation by a smooth loop and by a piecewise linear
approximation to it.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures, Revte
Spinor two-point functions in maximally symmetric spaces
The two-point function for spinors on maximally symmetric four-dimensional spaces is obtained in terms of intrinsic geometric objects. In the massless case, Weyl spinors in anti de Sitter space can not satisfy boundary conditions appropriate to the supersymmetric models. This is because these boundary conditions break chiral symmetry, which is proven by showing that the ldquoorder parameterrdquo for a massless Dirac spinor is nonzero. We also give a coordinate-independent formula for the bispinor introduced by Breitenlohner and Freedman [1], and establish the precise connection between our results and those of Burges, Davis, Freedman and Gibbons [2]
Data documentation for the 1981 summer vegetation experiment
The mobile agricultural radar sensor was used to collect data from 31 fields in the floodplain of the Kansas River east of Lawrence, Kansas during the summer of 1981. Corn, soybeans, and wheat crops were observed from May 1 to November 11. Radar backscattering measurements were acquired at 10.2 GHz for VV and VH polarizations at 50 deg incidence angles for all fields and at 30 deg, 40 deg, 50 deg, 60 deg, and 70 deg for nine of the 31 fields. Target parameters describing the vegatation and soil characteristics, such as plant moisture, plant height, soil moisture, etc., were also measured. The methodology, radar backscatter data and associated ground-truth data obtained during this experiment are documented
Progress on stochastic background search codes for LIGO
One of the types of signals for which the LIGO interferometric gravitational
wave detectors will search is a stochastic background of gravitational
radiation. We review the technique of searching for a background using the
optimally-filtered cross-correlation statistic, and describe the state of plans
to perform such cross-correlations between the two LIGO interferometers as well
as between LIGO and other gravitational-wave detectors, in particular the
preparation of software to perform such data analysis.Comment: 7 pages, 1 encapsulated PostScript figure, uses IOP class files,

Conformal Field Theory Correlators from Classical Field Theory on Anti-de Sitter Space II. Vector and Spinor Fields
We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to calculate CFT correlation functions of
vector and spinor fields. The connection between the AdS and boundary fields is
properly treated via a Dirichlet boundary value problem.Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX2e with amsmath, amsfonts packages; v2:interactions

A stochastic template placement algorithm for gravitational wave data analysis
This paper presents an algorithm for constructing matched-filter template
banks in an arbitrary parameter space. The method places templates at random,
then removes those which are "too close" together. The properties and
optimality of stochastic template banks generated in this manner are
investigated for some simple models. The effectiveness of these template banks
for gravitational wave searches for binary inspiral waveforms is also examined.
The properties of a stochastic template bank are then compared to the
deterministically placed template banks that are currently used in
gravitational wave data analysis.Comment: 14 pages, 11 figure
Freezing line of the Lennard-Jones fluid: a Phase Switch Monte Carlo study
We report a Phase Switch Monte Carlo (PSMC) method study of the freezing line
of the Lennard-Jones (LJ) fluid. Our work generalizes to soft potentials the
original application of the method to hard sphere freezing, and builds on a
previous PSMC study of the LJ system by Errington (J. Chem. Phys. {\bf 120},
3130 (2004)). The latter work is extended by tracing a large section of the
Lennard-Jones freezing curve, the results for which we compare to a previous
Gibbs-Duhem integration study. Additionally we provide new background regarding
the statistical mechanical basis of the PSMC method and extensive
implementation details.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figure
