Firm Size as Moderator to Non-Linear Leverage-Performance Relation: an Emerging Market Review
The purpose of this research was to investigate leverage-performance relation with moderating firm size in developing countries like Pakistan. Data were collected from 304 Pakistani non-financial firms for the period of 2005-2013. It is found that overall leverage-performance relation is negative for all types of firms. However, such losses are more prominent for small size firms. Results also show that the leverage-performance relation is nonlinear for medium and large size firms. However, these firms are not targeting optimal level and overleveraging that ultimately decrease their profits. So, financial managers of small size firms should avoid debt financing while for large and medium size firms, managers need to adjust their debt ratio to its optimal level
Exclusive rare decays in the light-front quark model
Using the light-front quark model, we calculate the transition form factors,
decay rates, and longitudinal lepton polarization asymmetries for the exclusive
rare
() decays within the standard model, taking into account the
mixing angle. For the mixing angle
() in the octet-singlet basis, we obtain , , , , , and , respectively. The branching ratios
for the decays are at least
an order of magnitude smaller than those for the decays. The averaged
values of the lepton polarization asymmetries for are obtained as \la P^K_L\ra_\mu=\la
P^\eta_L\ra_\mu=\la P^{\eta'}_L\ra_\mu=-0.98, \la P^K_L\ra_\tau=-0.24,
\la P^\eta_L\ra_\tau=-0.20 and \la P^{\eta'}_L\ra_\tau=-0.14,
respectively.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, minor revision. version to appear in Journal of

In Vitro Study of MefenamateStarch as Drug Delivery System
Mefenamic acid was esterified with starchwith[1:1] Molar ratio, as drug substituted with natural polymer, to prolongthe period of hydrolysis of drug polymer with other advantages. The new prodrug starch was characterized by FT-IR and UV-Visible and 1H-NMR spectroscopies. The physical properties were studied and controlled drug release was studied in different pH values at 37oC. The stability of drug was carried out by measuring the absorbance of mefenamic starch which hydrolyzed in HCl solution of pH 1.1 (artificial gastric fluid) and phosphate buffer of pH 7.4 (simulating intestinal fluid SIF) at 37oC for several days. The thermal analysis such as DSC was studied
Effect of 28-homobrassinolide on the nitrate reductase, carbonic anhydrase activities and net photosynthetic rate in Vigna radiata
The foliage of fifteen day-old Vigna radiata seedlings was sprayed with water (control) or with a 10β10 M, 10β8Mor 10β6 Maqueous solution of 28-homobrassinolide (HBR). Samples of the treated plant material, collected at 30/50 days after sowing (DAS), were assessed
for the activities of carbonic anhydrase (CA) and nitrate reductase (NR); leaf chlorophyll content (Chl); stomatal conductance (gs); carboxylation efficiency (CE), and net photosynthetic rate (PN). 28-homobrassinolide generated a significant impact on all these
characteristics and on seed yield at harvest. Among the treatments, 10β8Mproved best, in which case the values for the above six physiological parameters in 30 days-old plants increased by, respectively, 31, 29, 27, 28, 29 and 33% over the control. Moreover, the harvest weight of the seeds of these plants was 27% larger than in the control
Comparison of superficial surgical site infection following use of diathermyand scalpel for making skin incision in inguinal hernioplasty
The method of making surgical incision remains a complex problem. Although controversial, the use of diathermy instead of scalpel for skin incision and underlying tissue dissection is gradually gaining wide acceptance. This is due to the observation that no change in wound complication rate or postoperative pain is reportedwith the use ofDiathermy. However, the fear of excessive scarring and poorwound healing has curtailed itswidespread use for skin incision. The objective of the study is to compare superficial surgical site infection (SSSI) in diathermy and scalpel skin incision in inguinal hernioplasty. Quasi experimental study. Study was conducted at Surgical Unit II, Holy Family Hospital. Rawalpindi from1 Jan. 2008 to 30 September. 2008. Atotal of 80 patients who presented with inguinal hernias were included in the study. Patientswere divided in two groups. Group1: In 40 patients skin incisionwasmadewithDiathermy,Group 2: The other 40 had skin incisionwith scalpel. Themean age of patients in the intervention group (Group 1)was 50 years while in the control group (Group 2) itwas 46 years. 48% patients in Group 1 and 55% in the Group 2 had indirect inguinal hernias. SSSI was noted in 12.5% cases in Group 1 whereas in Group 2 it was 17.5% but this difference was not found to be statistically significant (p value=0.378). The use of diathermy for making skin incisions is as safe as scalpel and there is no significant difference amongst both regardingwound infection.Β Keywords: Diathermy incision, electrocautery, scalpel skin incision, superficial surgical site infectio
Experiments and Simulations of short-pulse laser-pumped extreme ultraviolet lasers
Recent experimental work on the development of extreme ultraviolet lasers undertaken using as the pumping source the VULCAN laser at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is compared to detailed simulations. It is shown that short duration (similar topicosecond) pumping can produce X-ray laser pulses of a few picosecond duration and that measurement of the emission from the plasma can give an estimate of the duration of the gain coefficient. The Ehybrid fluid and atomic physics code developed at the University of York is used to simulate X-ray laser gain and plasma emission. Two postprocessors to the Ehybrid code are utilized: 1) to raytrace the X-ray laser beam amplification and refraction and 2) to calculate the radiation emission in the kiloelectronvolt photon energy range. The raytracing and spectral simulations are compared, respectively, to measured X-ray laser output and the output of two diagnostics recording transverse X-ray emission. The pumping laser energy absorbed in the plasma is examined by comparing the simulations to experimental results. It is shown that at high pumping irradiance (>10(15) Wcm(-2)), fast electrons are produced by parametric processes in the preformed long scale-length plasmas. These fast electrons do not pump the population inversion and so pumping efficiency is reduced at high irradiance
