This article has been designed to study the role of academic libraries and online academic activities among students during the COVID-19 in higher education institutions. The outbreak spread from Wuhan city of China and placed online learning as well as hybrid modes of academic activities around the globe. A quantitative study design has been used to conduct an online cross-sectional survey in two public sector universities in the Punjab province. A sample of 1058 university students enrolled in BS programs out of 1820 participated through a classified random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire pretested from 30 students was used as a tool for data collection. This study concludes that all the predictors used as an independent variable including online library services, online research support, online library facilities, online material availability, and online audio/video material predict favourably online learning activities among university students during the COVID-19 outbreak

This study has been designed to examine the digitalization of resources in academic libraries in Pakistan. The world continues its flow of digitalization through the internet such as people starting jobs online, online selling and purchasing businesses, online shares, and investment during the time of Coronavirus. Hence, the digitalization of libraries has no exemption. A purposive sampling technique has been employed to select 16 participants (8 students and 8 library professionals) from the academic library of the University of Gujrat. Further, an interview guide has been developed to conduct case studies. The data collection process takes place within ten working days. Similarly, the data has been presented as a thematic analysis and discussion has been made accordingly to conclude. The study findings conclude that academic libraries digitalize their resources for the smooth running of academic activities for the library patrons including AV aids, e-books, e-journals, online databases, online library services, e-resources, internal facilities, online discussion forums, online queries, and provisional material online

This paper attempted to examine the academic library facilities and satisfaction of university library patrons at higher education institution in Pakistan. It is evident that library staff has also been trying their best level to facilitate the library users through different procedures in global south and global north. A quantitative study design had been opted to conduct a cross-sectional survey from two public sector university students of BS (4 years) programme. A structured questionnaire had been administered to measure the response 1275 library patrons sampled through proportionate random sampling technique. A pilot testing had been done to check the reliability of the questionnaire that ranged from .702 to .798 (overall .889 for 66 items). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis had been employed to draw results and conclusions. The study findings showed that university library patrons had been satisfied with the services and facilities provided by library including circulation services, article indexing, compilation of bibliographies, new arrival displays, library references, inter-library loans, selected topic/content references, library orientations, and library automation

Structural Geodesic-Tchebychev Transform: An image similarity measure for face recognition

    Get PDF
This work presents a new holistic measure for face recognition. Face recognition involves three steps: Face Detection, Feature Extraction and Matching. In the face detection process to identify the face area in face images, Viola-Jones algorithm has been used. Feature extraction is based on performing double-transformation, where discrete Tchebychev transform is performed on the geodesic distance transform of the grayscale image. Structural Similarity (SSIM) is applied to the resulting image double-transform to find matching factor with other image faces in the FEI (Brazilian) database. Performance is measured using a confidence criterion based on the similarity distance between the recognized person (best match) and the next possible ambiguity (second-best match). Simulation results showed that the proposed approach handles the face recognition efficiently as compared with SSIM

The leader in the science of management a major role in the success and failure, especially if the general and a public position is dangerous, must take in to, account the special characteristics of the commander if the Department is to perform its duties in an optimal manner. Decision-making analysis using arduino-based Electroencephalography (EEG): an exploratory study for marketing strategy

    Get PDF
Business technology has brought conventional marketing methods to the next level. These emerging integrated technologies has contributed to the growth and understanding of the consumer decision making process. Several studies have attempted to evaluate media content, especially on video advertising or TV commercials using various neuroimaging techniques such as the electroencephalography (EEG) device. Currently, the use of neuroscience in Malaysia’s marketing research is very limited due to its limited adoption as an emerging technology in this field. This research uncovers the neuroscientific approach, particularly through the use of an EEG device; examining consumers’ responses in terms of brain wave signals and cognition. A proposed theoretical framework on the factors affecting visual stimulus (movement, color, shape, and light) during the decision-making process by watching video advertising had been customized using two conceptual models of sensory stimulation. Ten respondents participated in the experiment to investigate the spectral changes of alpha brain wave signals detected in the occipital lobe. A 2-channel Arduino-based EEG device from Backyard Brains and Spike Recorder software was used to analyze the EEG signal through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method. Results obtained from the investigated population showed that there was statistically significant brain wave activity during the observation of the video advertising which demonstrated the interconnection with short-term memory through visual stimulus. Application of the neuroscience tool helped to explore consumer brain responses towards marketing stimuli with regards to the consumers’ decision-making processes. This study manifests a useful tool for neuromarketing and concludes with a discussion, together with recommendations on the way forward

This paper intends to examine academic library services and facilities for university students at the tertiary level in Punjab. It has been observed that all educational institutions specifically higher education has an academic library to facilitate the students in terms of their academic activities and research-oriented tasks. This study has been conducted to measure the response of library patrons of two Public Sector Universities in Punjab, Pakistan. The unit of analysis has been based on the enrolled students of the University of Gujrat, Gujrat, and Government College University Faisalabad, Faisalabad, Pakistan. A sample of 16 students (8 students from each university and half male and female student ratio) has been selected using a purposive sampling technique. An interview guide has been developed and a case study method has been used to conduct in-depth interviews of the library Patrons. It is worth stating that researchers conducted interviews in the academic library of the relevant universities\u27 main campus. Data analysis has been done with reference thematic analysis technique. The study finding asserted that library patrons reported that research support services and internet facilities had been provided by the library administration. Similarly, the study findings revealed that a silent zone of study, printing, and photocopy facility had been provided to support academic activities at the university. Likewise, the study results indicated that an online public access catalog, reference and periodical section, and open reading area had also been provided by the library staff to the library patron for the smooth running of research activities

The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of special exercises according to the difficulty of the training unit on developing some physical abilities and on the achievement of a 200-meter run. The present study had a parallel group, experimental design. In the present study, 200m sprinters constituted the population and research community. The study was conducted in the clubs of the province of Baghdad. A total of 12 runners were recruited as the sample for the study by the intentional method. The participants were divided into experimental group and control group using odd even method. Considering the findings of this study, the researchers concluded that the adoption of special interval training exercises according to the difficulty of the training unit is useful to develop the physical abilities and the performance of 200m sprinters
