Yield and morpho physical characters of some modern aus rice varieties at Khagrachari

Aus, aman and boro are three rice cultivating seasons in Bangladesh. Among these aus is the least cultivated and grown in comparatively small scale due to prevailing drought and less availability of surface water for irrigation. Modern varieties of aus rice cover a significant area of the country conversely local cultivars cover a small area. Aus rice requires much fewer inputs than aman and boro. Due to continuous declination of groundwater level, nowadays more emphasis is given on the extension of aus cultivation throughout the country. The present field study tested yield and morphological attributes of six developed aus rice varieties viz. Binadhan-14, Binadhan-19, BRRI dhan43, BRRI dhan48, BRRI dhan55 and BRRI dhan65 to characterize yield, maturity and phenological properties. The field trial was set at Satvaiyapara of Khagrachari during 2018 following Randomized Complete Block design with dispersed plots. All data were collected at harvest and analysed statistically by Statistix 10. Findings revealed that statistically highest grain yield was produced from BRRI dhan55 (4.49 t/ha) and BRRI dhan48 (4.48 t/ha); the lowest by BRRI dhan65 (3.06 t/ ha). The yield of Binadhan-19 (4.37 t/ha) and Binadhan-14 (3.87 t/ha) was intermediate. In case of maturity, Binadhan-19 (99.33 days) had the shortest life duration and BRRI dhan48 (113.67 days), the longest. The greater portion of the farmers was keen to grow Binadhan-19 and Binadhan-14 instead of BRRI dhan43 and BRRI dhan48 mainly for its short duration, optimal yield, long and slender quality grain. Binadhan-19 might be a promising aus variety in the Khagrachari hill tracts for gaining favourable yield within a short time. Therefore, further studies are needed in jhum cultivation with local cultivars for more significant comparison and acceptability to the rice farming community

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Bangladesh: A Cointegration Analysis

    Get PDF
This paper investigates the long-run relationship between GDP and FDI in Bangladesh for a period of 42 years ranges from 1972 to 2013 by using time series econometric technique. The empirical results show that there is a significant positive correlation between GDP and FDI. The results also show that FDI and GDP are cointegrated in the long-run. For the supplement of the results of cointegration analysis, this study also examine the causal relationships by using Granger causality test and find strong evidence for unidirectional causality running between GDP through FDI in the long run. Keywords: FDI, GDP, Unit Root, Cointegration, Granger Causality

Generating nested XML documents from unnormalized relational views using a statistically approach

    Get PDF
Converting relational database into XML is increasing daily for publishing and exchanging the business applications data on the Web. Most of the current approaches and products convert the unnormalized relational views to XML documents using flat-based that causes data redundancy which leads to generate a massive data. This paper proposes an approach to generate nested XML documents with full automatic from flat relational views. The proposed approach includes two steps: the first is extracting the nested view from the flat relational view using a statistically approach for counting and removing the data redundancy. The statistically approach is based on the analysis of functional dependency taking into account the frequency of the data values for the columns of the relational views. The second step is converting the nested view into nested XML. The columns of the nested view are also divided into groups to achieve the nesting for XML document. The proposed approach generates nested XML documents from the unnormalized relational views with full automatic. The generated nested XML document by the proposed approach has good features such as minimal redundancy and less size of storage

Effect of delay harvest on seed quality and germination of three varieties of soybean (Glycinemax) seeds

The loss in soybean seed quality owing to adverse environmental reasons is unavoidable, particularly in the tropics. Seed ability to germinate and produce a vigorous seedling is a significant characteristic for any seed-propagated crop. Seed deterioration is a harmful feature of agriculture crops which hindered quality seed of Soybean. Thus, the purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between seed deterioration and physiological changes of delayed harvest soybean seeds. Three soybean varieties which are AGS-190, Cikurai, and Willis were used as planting in the field at Universiti Putra Malaysia as materials in this experiment. The seeds were harvested at harvest maturity HM (H1) demonstrating 95% of the pods have reached their mature brown color and 2-week delay after HM (H2). The experiment was conducted in a complete randomized design (CRD) with three replicates. The result showed that seed deterioration of larger seeded soybean varieties can be increased at a 2-week delay after harvest maturity stage. Seed quality of soybean was affected by field weather environment during harvest date. AGS190 was the most sensitive to adverse weather surroundings as shown by deterioration of seed quality at a 2-week delay after harvest maturity stage. Loss of seed viability and vigor demonstrated depending on harvest date and directly related to increase in the level of phomopsis sp. infection. Germination percentage, tetrazolium test seed viability and vigor are negatively correlated with electrical conductivity and phomopsis sp., while in small seeded varieties was less seed deterioration

Fire risk assessment of heritage building - perspectives of building stakeholders

    Get PDF
Heritage building is very important in preserving the culture and to the tourism potential. Hence, the proper budget allocation to the prevention of fire loss is critical. Budget allocation is normally based on fire risk assessment. The assessment is interpreted based on the perception of stakeholders. Using structured interview and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) this study identifies and explains the diversity of fire risk perception of stakeholder

Determination of flow resistance coefficient for vegetation in open channel: laboratory study

This study focused on determination of flow resistances coefficient for grass in an open channel. Laboratory works were conducted to examine the effects of varying of roughness elements on the flume to determine flow resistance coefficient and also to determine the optimum flow resistance with five different flow rate, Q. Laboratory study with two type of vegetation which are Cow Grass and Pearl Grass were implementing to the bed of a flume. The roughness coefficient, n value is determine using Manning’s equation while Soil Conservation Services (SCS) method was used to determine the surface resistance. From the experiment, the flow resistance coefficient for Cow Grass in range 0.0008 - 0.0039 while Pearl Grass value for the flow resistance coefficient are in between 0.0013 - 0.0054. As a conclusion the vegetation roughness value in open channel are depends on density, distribution type of vegetation used and physical characteristic of the vegetation itsel

Hardware Implementation of 32-Bit High-Speed Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer

    Get PDF
The design and implementation of a high-speed direct digital frequency synthesizer are presented. A modified Brent-Kung parallel adder is combined with pipelining technique to improve the speed of the system. A gated clock technique is proposed to reduce the number of registers in the phase accumulator design. The quarter wave symmetry technique is used to store only one quarter of the sine wave. The ROM lookup table (LUT) is partitioned into three 4-bit sub-ROMs based on angular decomposition technique and trigonometric identity. Exploiting the advantages of sine-cosine symmetrical attributes together with XOR logic gates, one sub-ROM block can be removed from the design. These techniques, compressed the ROM into 368 bits. The ROM compressed ratio is 534.2 : 1, with only two adders, two multipliers, and XOR-gates with high frequency resolution of 0.029 Hz. These techniques make the direct digital frequency synthesizer an attractive candidate for wireless communication applications
