Staff Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Recovery Principles Among Mental Health Professionals Who Work with Adult Psychiatric Inpatients
Recovery from serious mental illness (SMI) promotes a lifestyle that enables individuals to overcome obstacles related to mental illness and to become hopeful, responsible, and empowered to contribute to society (Anthony, 1993; Jacobson & Greenley, 2001). This study addressed the mental health worker’s knowledge and attitudes toward recovery principles, utilizing an online survey method to examine the relationship between staff knowledge of and attitudes toward recovery principles among mental health professionals who work in inpatient psychiatric settings that serve adult patients. Participants in this study included staff members at inpatient psychiatric hospital facilities in the United States. Results from this study were restricted due to the low number of respondents to the questionnaire during the designated 3-month time frame for data gathering. The implications of these findings were discussed, as well as the need for more research on this area of study
Seasonal variation of mercury vapor concentrations in industrial, residential, and traffic areas of Ahvaz city, Southwest Iran
Mercury has been known as a toxic substance that could raise potential risks to human health. The main anthropogenic sources of mercury pollution in air include combustion of fossil fuel, metal smelting and processing, and vehicle transportation all of which exist in Ahvaz city in Southwestern Iran. Ambient air mercury vapor concentrations were measured in summer and winter in industrial, residential and traffic areas in five sampling points. Results show that mercury level was high in sampling point near steel companies and it was lowest in the residential zone. Also, the average amounts of mercury vapor were 19.9 and 20.7 ng/m3 in summer and winter, respectively.Key words: Air pollution, mercury vapor, urban area, emission source, Ahvaz city, Iran
Prosumption as a discursive practice of consumer empowerment: integration of individual resources and co-prosumption of value in an online community
The purpose of this research is to explore the nature of an emerging practice known as ‘prosumption’, and interrogate its potential as a discursive practice which empowers consumers in an online community named Instructables. Prosumers combine the roles of consumers and producers to make their own products. A review of prosumption and closely-related practices (consumer co-creation) alongside discourses of consumer empowerment provides a guide to the research. A netnography-informed approach is used to collect data through a degree of participant observation and online depth interviews. Findings suggest that prosumption in Instructables is multidimensional in nature and benefits to prosumers. It suggests a typology of prosumers (assemblers, modifies, artists and inventors) to make a distinction between prosumer and co-creator roles. Findings also offer evidence of prosumption as a discursive practice of consumer empowerment through self-discipline and collective education in contrast to other exploitive practices such as consumer co-creation. This research finally contributes to the on-going evolution of consumer productivity and how consumers and producers participate as producers of value in market and society
Epidemiological profile and fluconazole susceptibility of patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis in northeast Iran
Background: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) remains one of the most common infections of the female genital tract. This local study was conducted to identify the spectrum of Candida species associated with VVC and recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) using different phenotypic and genotypic methods and assess their fluconazole susceptibility.
Methods: High vaginal swabs were collected from 576 patients with VVC. Swabs were subjected to KOH 10% and cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar. The species identification of Candida isolates was made using phenotypic methods, including the germ tube test, corn meal agar (CMA), CHROMagar Candida, and PCR-RFLP as the best genotypic methods for confirmation of Candida species in vulvovaginal candidiasis. Fluconazole susceptibility testing was performed using the disk diffusion method.
Results: The data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The prevalence of candidiasis was 61%. The socio-demographic profile corresponded to a woman aged 29.14 ± 4.8 years on average, pregnant (77%), diabetic (19%), with hypertension (10%), recurrent (9%), a history of fluconazole use (4%), and under 30 years of age (73%).
Vaginal swab cultures yielded Candida growth in 352 cases (61%). Candida albicans was the predominant isolated species (78%), while the most common non-albicans species were C. glabrata (14.7%), C. parapsilosis (4.2%), C. tropicalis (2.8%), and C. krusei (0.56%). Isolates of C. glabrata and C. krusei exhibited the highest rate of DDS resistance among all isolates tested.
Conclusion: C. albicans was the most common species. Careful periodical surveillance is needed to identify any changes in the susceptibility patterns to fluconazole with the increased use of this antifungal agent in Sayad Shirazi tertiary care hospital, Iran
Novel TLR7 hemizygous variant in post-COVID-19 neurological deterioration: a case report with literature review
The neurological complications of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can range from simple tremors and dystonia to features of encephalopathy. Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) belongs to a family of innate immune receptors responsible for viral RNA detection (such as SARS-CoV-2) and immune response initiation. TLR7 loss of function variants have been previously reported as genetic risk factors for severe COVID-19 infection in young patients with no comorbidities. In this case, we report a pediatric patient who developed severe long-term neurological deterioration following his COVID-19 infection. Presenting first to the clinic with episodic dystonia and finger spasticity, the patient’s condition rapidly deteriorated with a significant drop in the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Despite improvement following initial treatment with rituximab and intravenous immunoglobulin, the patient’s symptoms relapsed, and GCS further dropped to 3/15. Serial brain magnetic resonance imaging scans revealed diffuse parenchymal atrophy, ventricular enlargement, and spinal cord thickening. Autoimmune investigations were negative but clinical whole genome sequencing prioritized four gene variants, the most significant of which was a novel frameshift null variant of the X chromosomal TLR7 gene (c.1386_1389dup, p.[His464Ilefs*7]). This case illustrates a role for TLR7 in long-term COVID-19 complications and highlights that TLR7 deficiency in the future may be addressed as a therapeutic measure

Exploring the Factors Affecting Online Trust in B2C E-Commerce Transactions in India: an Empirical Study
Purpose: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a surge in e-commerce as millions of people were forced to stay at home and adopt digital channels for their purchases to avoid crowded supermarkets. It made the whole world look towards e-commerce as a one-stop solution for keeping markets alive. However, it came as an opportunity for digital fraudsters as a huge number of digital frauds were reported during this pandemic. Such incidents raised questions about online trust-related issues. Fake websites, insecure payment mechanisms, data theft, privacy breach, product reliability, etc., are a few of the reasons why many people are still not confident about using e-commerce platforms. When customers cannot physically touch, feel, and see the products, it becomes even more suspicious and raises serious uncertainty about the quality of the promised product and transaction setup in the e-commerce framework.
Design/Methodology/Approch: In this study, primary data was collected through structured questionnaires from e-commerce website users belonging to Generation Z and analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling and Path Analysis in IBM SPSS AMOS version 24.
Findings: Online Security, Online Privacy, and Website appearance were studied and found to have a significant positive impact on online trust. Online trust was also found to be a predictor of purchase intention. Online trust was also found to act as a full mediator between online security and purchase intention, online privacy, and purchase intention, and as a partial mediator between website appearance and purchase intention.
Research, Practical & Social Implications: The cross-sectional nature of this study makes it difficult for making inferences about causal relationships so new studies can adopt and check the utility of a longitudinal approach in this area. Furthermore, the data collected using convenience sampling had all young generation respondents, mostly college/university students. This current study takes only three antecedents of online trust with reference to a young generation; an exploratory study is needed here to find out new possible antecedents of developing online trust. Moreover, the appearance of the website is altogether a vast area to investigate for further development; very limited dimensions of the appearance of e-commerce websites are covered in this study
Nutritional Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices among Family Physician Practitioners in Gulf Countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and UAE)
Family physicians serve as pivotal points of contact within global healthcare systems. Nutrition plays a significant role in lifestyle and preventive medicine. With the rise of chronic and non-communicable diseases in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, these physicians advise patients and the public on diet-related conditions. This descriptive cross-sectional study assessed the nutritional knowledge and practices across the GCC. Combining survey data from multiple GCC sites, a sample of family physicians was generated. Registered GCC family physicians received email invitations containing participant information, informed consent forms, and a self-administered online questionnaire. Analysis of data from four GCC countries involving 8751 family physicians and nutrition experts revealed an average nutrition knowledge score of 62%. Nearly all participants recognized the importance of nutrition in preventing and treating chronic diseases. Common nutritional practices included recommending regular exercise (92%), referring patients to dietitians for nutrition-related concerns (70%), and providing nutrition advice (68.6%). GCC family physicians underscore the significance of nutrition in preventing and managing chronic ailments. Therefore, incorporating nutritional counseling into their practices is essential. This study highlights the need to integrate nutrition education into medical curricula and ongoing professional development, given that only 62% of GCC family physicians correctly answered nutrition-related questions
