Diez Años de La Cátedra-Empresa Cemex de La E.T.S. de Ingenieros de Minas de Madrid
La Cátedra CEMEX de Tecnología de Cementos, Hormigones y Morteros es una de las Cátedras Universidad-Empresa de la E.T.S de Ingenieros de Minas de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Fue creada hace diez años y está patrocinada por CEMEX España. En estos diez cursos ya cumplidos de vida la Cátedra ha llevado a cabo diversas actividades, entre las que destaca la organización de un curso de formación para estudiantes de la ETSI Minas, en cuya impartición participan diversas entidades, además de técnicos de la propia empresa. Asimismo, se han realizado proyectos de investigación aplicada, algunos muy innovadores, con participación de los estudiantes, en el marco de su política de facilitar prácticas en empresa y en muchos casos la realización de proyectos fin de carrera. Todo lo anterior ha permitido la incorporación en estos años a la plantilla de CEMEX España de numerosos profesionales formados en la ETSI Minas, los cuales se han integrado en diversos departamentos de la empresa
Environmental effects on galaxy evolution. II: quantifying the tidal features in NIR-images of the cluster Abell 85
This work is part of a series of papers devoted to investigate the evolution
of cluster galaxies during their infall. In the present article we imaged in
NIR a selected sample of galaxies through- out the massive cluster Abell 85 (z
= 0.055). We obtained (JHK) photometry for 68 objects, reaching 1 mag/arcsec^2
deeper than 2MASS. We use these images to unveil asymmetries in the outskirts
of a sample of bright galaxies and develop a new asymmetry index, alpha_An,
which allows to quantify the degree of disruption by the relative area occupied
by the tidal features on the plane of the sky. We measure the asymmetries for a
subsample of 41 large area objects finding clear asymmetries in ten galaxies,
most of them being in groups and pairs projected at different clustercentric
distances, some of them located beyond R500 . Combining information on the
Hi-gas content of blue galaxies and the distribution of sub-structures across
Abell 85, with the present NIR asymmetry analysis, we obtain a very powerful
tool to confirm that tidal mechanisms are indeed present and are currently
affecting a fraction of galaxies in Abell 85. However, when comparing our deep
NIR images with UV-blue images of two very disrupted (jellyfish) galaxies in
this cluster, we discard the presence of tidal 1 interactions down to our
detection limit. Our results suggest that ram-pressure stripping is at the
origin of such spectacular disruptions. We conclude that across a complex
cluster like Abell 85, environment mechanisms, both gravitational and
hydrodynamical, are playing an active role in driving galaxy evolution.Comment: 30 pages, 13 figures, Accepted for Publication in A
Electric Dipole Moments and Polarizability in the Quark-Diquark Model of the Neutron
For a bound state internal wave function respecting parity symmetry, it can
be rigorously argued that the mean electric dipole moment must be strictly
zero. Thus, both the neutron, viewed as a bound state of three quarks, and the
water molecule, viewed as a bound state of ten electrons two protons and an
oxygen nucleus, both have zero mean electric dipole moments. Yet, the water
molecule is said to have a nonzero dipole moment strength with
. The neutron may also be said to have

Biopesticide activity from drimanic compounds to control tomato pathogens
Indexación: Scopus.Tomato crops can be affected by several infectious diseases produced by bacteria, fungi, and oomycetes. Four phytopathogens are of special concern because of the major economic losses they generate worldwide in tomato production; Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis and Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, causative agents behind two highly destructive diseases, bacterial canker and bacterial speck, respectively; fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici that causes Fusarium Wilt, which strongly affects tomato crops; and finally, Phytophthora spp., which affect both potato and tomato crops. Polygodial (1), drimenol (2), isonordrimenone (3), and nordrimenone (4) were studied against these four phytopathogenic microorganisms. Among them, compound 1, obtained from Drimys winteri Forst, and synthetic compound 4 are shown here to have potent activity. Most promisingly, the results showed that compounds 1 and 4 affect Clavibacter michiganensis growth at minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) values of 16 and 32 μg/mL, respectively, and high antimycotic activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Phytophthora spp. with MIC of 64 μg/mL. Analysis of Probabilistic Basic Parallel Processes
Basic Parallel Processes (BPPs) are a well-known subclass of Petri Nets. They
are the simplest common model of concurrent programs that allows unbounded
spawning of processes. In the probabilistic version of BPPs, every process
generates other processes according to a probability distribution. We study the
decidability and complexity of fundamental qualitative problems over
probabilistic BPPs -- in particular reachability with probability 1 of
different classes of target sets (e.g. upward-closed sets). Our results concern
both the Markov-chain model, where processes are scheduled randomly, and the

Simultaneous extraction and analysis of preservatives and artificial sweeteners in juices by salting out liquid-liquid extraction method prior to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography
A novel and fast salting out liquid-liquid extraction method was developed for simultaneous determination of food additives with different polarities in juices. Chromatographic separation was achieved in less than 6 min using Acquity UPLC BEH C 18 (100 mm × 2.1 mm d.i. × 1.7 µm) column with ammonium acetate with 0.01% of trifluoroacetic acid as eluent A and acetonitrile as eluent B at a flow rate of 0.2 mL min-1. The main factors affecting the extraction efficiency were optimized. The method was validated applying accuracy profile based on total error. The extraction recoveries ranged from 84.97 to 122%. Relative standard deviation ranged from 1.24 to 7.99% for intraday assay and from 1.69 to 9.16% for intermediate precision. The limits of detection for five food additives were from 0.3 to 1.42 µg mL-1. The method was successfully applied to 47 samples of juices from nine brands
Algorithms for Game Metrics
Simulation and bisimulation metrics for stochastic systems provide a
quantitative generalization of the classical simulation and bisimulation
relations. These metrics capture the similarity of states with respect to
quantitative specifications written in the quantitative {\mu}-calculus and
related probabilistic logics. We first show that the metrics provide a bound
for the difference in long-run average and discounted average behavior across
states, indicating that the metrics can be used both in system verification,
and in performance evaluation. For turn-based games and MDPs, we provide a
polynomial-time algorithm for the computation of the one-step metric distance
between states. The algorithm is based on linear programming; it improves on
the previous known exponential-time algorithm based on a reduction to the
theory of reals. We then present PSPACE algorithms for both the decision
problem and the problem of approximating the metric distance between two
states, matching the best known algorithms for Markov chains. For the
bisimulation kernel of the metric our algorithm works in time O(n^4) for both
turn-based games and MDPs; improving the previously best known O(n^9\cdot
log(n)) time algorithm for MDPs. For a concurrent game G, we show that
computing the exact distance between states is at least as hard as computing
the value of concurrent reachability games and the square-root-sum problem in
computational geometry. We show that checking whether the metric distance is
bounded by a rational r, can be done via a reduction to the theory of real
closed fields, involving a formula with three quantifier alternations, yielding
O(|G|^O(|G|^5)) time complexity, improving the previously known reduction,
which yielded O(|G|^O(|G|^7)) time complexity. These algorithms can be iterated

Actividades de la Cátedra empresa ANEFA de la E.T.S. de Ingenieros de Minas de Madrid
La Cátedra ANEFA de Tecnología de Áridos, es una de las Cátedras Universidad-Empresa de la E.T.S de Ingenieros de Minas de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Fue creada hace diez años y está patrocinada por ANEFA (Asociación Nacional de Empresarios Fabricantes de Áridos). Desde su creación se han realizado numerosas actividades, fundamentalmente de formación en materias del sector de los áridos, tanto a los alumnos de los últimos cursos de la Escuela de Minas, como a alumnos de postgrado que quieran una actualización de conocimientos, incorporando los últimos avances tecnológicos. Esta última formación se realiza de forma semipresencial, empleando una plataforma de Internet de la UPM para seguimiento de la enseñanza no presencial. También se han realizado cursos y jornadas de uno o dos días de duración, en temáticas de actualidad e interés para los profesionales y empresarios del sector. Así como impartición de conferencias en diferentes foros universitarios, profesionales o escolares. Otra actividad importante es el fomento y apoyo a la investigación dentro del sector de los árido
Null-Space Minimization of Center of Gravity Displacementof a Redundant Aerial Manipulator
Displacements of the base during trajectory tracking are a common issue in the control of aerial manipulators. These are caused by reaction torques transferred to the base due to the manipulator motion and, in particular, to the motion of its center of gravity. We present a novel approach to reduce base displacements of a kinematically redundant aerial manipulator by using null-space projection in the inverse kinematic control. A secondary objective function minimizes the horizontal displacement of the manipulator center of gravity. We test this algorithm on different trajectories for both three and four degrees of freedom (DOF) manipulators in a simulation environment. The results comparing our algorithm with inverse kinematic control without the null-space projection show up to an 80% reduction in the end-effector position error and an average of about 56% reduction in maximum base displacement. The simulation implementation also runs faster than in real-time in our code implementation. We provide a workspace analysis based on multiple stopping criteria such as excessive base displacement, joint velocities and end-effector position error for the 3 and 4 DOF manipulators.
