Climatic drivers of the historical variations in cereal prices in the northeast of the Iberian peninsula in the 17th century
The 17th century knew in Spain several periods of agricultural crisis producing shortages in staple foods and a rising in grain prices. The fluctuations of the prices of wheat, barley and rye are relatively well documented in several areas of the country, however, the knowledge about the influence of climatic and environmental factors on these variations is still limited. In this work, we present the historical records of grain prices of four cities of different geographical areas in northeastern Iberian Peninsula during period 1630-1660, and they are compared with drought indices, reconstructed from documentary and dendroclimatic proxies. We observed that prices variations coincide with regional anomalies in spring-summer drought. Direct correlations between them are low (0.435), however, if analysis is focused on extreme values, the climatic influence is higher: prices are high during dry periods and lower during wet periods. This correspondence is higher in previous and following years to the Guerra dels Segadors, showing that the exchange of goods and the coherence of data were controlled by sociopolitical and environmental factors, being the latter more influential in peacetime. ©2021 JosĂ© M. Vacuum Polarization Effects in the Lorentz and PCT Violating Electrodynamics
In this work we report new results concerning the question of dynamical mass
generation in the Lorentz and PCT violating quantum electrodynamics. A one loop
calculation for the vacuum polarization tensor is presented. The electron
propagator, "dressed" by a Lorentz breaking extra term in the fermion
Lagrangian density, is approximated by its first order: this scheme is shown to
break gauge invariance. Then we rather consider a full calculation to second
order in the Lorentz breaking parameter: we recover gauge invariance and use
the Schwinger-Dyson equation to discuss the full photon propagator. This allows
a discussion on a possible photon mass shift as well as measurable, observable

Long daytime napping is associated with increased adiposity and type 2 diabetes in an elderly population with metabolic syndrome
Research examining associations between objectively-measured napping time and type
2 diabetes (T2D) is lacking. This study aimed to evaluate daytime napping in relation to T2D and
adiposity measures in elderly individuals from the Mediterranean region. A cross-sectional analysis of
baseline data from 2190 elderly participants with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome, in the
PREDIMED-Plus trial, was carried out. Accelerometer-derived napping was measured. Prevalence
ratios (PR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for T2D were obtained using multivariable-adjusted
Cox regression with constant time. Linear regression models were fitted to examine associations of
napping with body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). Participants napping â„90 min
had a higher prevalence of T2D (PR 1.37 (1.06, 1.78)) compared with those napping 5 to <30 min per
day. Significant positive associations with BMI and WC were found in those participants napping
â„30 min as compared to those napping 5 to <30 min per day. The findings of this study suggest that
longer daytime napping is associated with higher T2D prevalence and greater adiposity measures in
an elderly Spanish population at high cardiovascular risk
Seguimiento de las guĂas españolas para el manejo del asma por el mĂ©dico de atenciĂłn primaria: un estudio observacional ambispectivo
Objetivo
Evaluar el grado de seguimiento de las recomendaciones de las versiones de la GuĂa española para el manejo del asma (GEMA 2009 y 2015) y su repercusiĂłn en el control de la enfermedad.
Material y métodos
Estudio observacional y ambispectivo realizado entre septiembre del 2015 y abril del 2016, en el que participaron 314 médicos de atención primaria y 2.864 pacientes.
Resultados
Utilizando datos retrospectivos, 81 de los 314 mĂ©dicos (25, 8% [IC del 95%, 21, 3 a 30, 9]) comunicaron seguir las recomendaciones de la GEMA 2009. Al inicio del estudio, 88 de los 314 mĂ©dicos (28, 0% [IC del 95%, 23, 4 a 33, 2]) seguĂan las recomendaciones de la GEMA 2015. El tener un asma mal controlada (OR 0, 19, IC del 95%, 0, 13 a 0, 28) y presentar un asma persistente grave al inicio del estudio (OR 0, 20, IC del 95%, 0, 12 a 0, 34) se asociaron negativamente con tener un asma bien controlada al final del seguimiento. Por el contrario, el seguimiento de las recomendaciones de la GEMA 2015 se asociĂł de manera positiva con una mayor posibilidad de que el paciente tuviera un asma bien controlada al final del periodo de seguimiento (OR 1, 70, IC del 95%, 1, 40 a 2, 06).
Conclusiones
El escaso seguimiento de las guĂas clĂnicas para el manejo del asma constituye un problema comĂșn entre los mĂ©dicos de atenciĂłn primaria. Un seguimiento de estas guĂas se asocia con un control mejor del asma. Existe la necesidad de actuaciones que puedan mejorar el seguimiento por parte de los mĂ©dicos de atenciĂłn primaria de las guĂas para el manejo del asma.
Objective: To assess the degree of compliance with the recommendations of the 2009 and 2015 versions of the Spanish guidelines for managing asthma (GuĂa Española para el Manejo del Asma [GEMA]) and the effect of this compliance on controlling the disease.
Material and methods: We conducted an observational ambispective study between September 2015 and April 2016 in which 314 primary care physicians and 2864 patients participated.
Results: Using retrospective data, we found that 81 of the 314 physicians (25.8%; 95% CI 21.3â30.9) stated that they complied with the GEMA2009 recommendations. At the start of the study, 88 of the 314 physicians (28.0%; 95% CI 23.4â33.2) complied with the GEMA2015 recommendations. Poorly controlled asthma (OR, 0.19; 95% CI 0.13â0.28) and persistent severe asthma at the start of the study (OR, 0.20; 95% CI 0.12â0.34) were negatively associated with having well-controlled asthma by the end of the follow-up. In contrast, compliance with the GEMA2015 recommendations was positively associated with a greater likelihood that the patient would have well-controlled asthma by the end of the follow-up (OR, 1.70; 95% CI 1.40â2.06).
Conclusions: Low compliance with the clinical guidelines for managing asthma is a common problem among primary care physicians. Compliance with these guidelines is associated with better asthma control. Actions need to be taken to improve primary care physician compliance with the asthma management guidelines

The miniJPAS survey: a preview of the Universe in 56 colours
International audienceThe Javalambre-Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS) will soon start to scan thousands of square degrees of the northern extragalactic sky with a unique set of optical filters from a dedicated m telescope, JST, at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory. Before the arrival of the final instrument (a 1.2 Gpixels, 4.2deg field-of-view camera), the JST was equipped with an interim camera (JPAS-Pathfinder), composed of one CCD with a 0.3deg field-of-view and resolution of 0.23 arcsec pixel. To demonstrate the scientific potential of J-PAS, with the JPAS-Pathfinder camera we carried out a survey on the AEGIS field (along the Extended Groth Strip), dubbed miniJPAS. We observed a total of deg, with the J-PAS filters, which include narrow band (NB, Angstrom) and two broader filters extending to the UV and the near-infrared, complemented by the SDSS broad band (BB) filters. In this paper we present the miniJPAS data set, the details of the catalogues and data access, and illustrate the scientific potential of our multi-band data. The data surpass the target depths originally planned for J-PAS, reaching between and for the NB filters and up to for the BB filters ( in a ~arcsec aperture). The miniJPAS primary catalogue contains more than sources extracted in the detection band with forced photometry in all other bands. We estimate the catalogue to be complete up to for point-like sources and up to for extended sources. The miniJPAS survey: A preview of the Universe in 56 colors

Prior to the installation of the main camera (4.2âdeg2 field-of-view with 1.2 Gpixels), the JST was equipped with the JPAS-Pathfinder, a one CCD camera with a 0.3âdeg2 field-of-view and plate scale of 0.23 arcsec pixelâ1. To demonstrate the scientific potential of J-PAS, the JPAS-Pathfinder camera was used to perform miniJPAS, a âŒ1 deg2 survey of the AEGIS field (along the Extended Groth Strip). The field was observed with the 56 J-PAS filters, which include 54 narrow band (FWHMââŒâ145 Ă
) and two broader filters extending to the UV and the near-infrared, complemented by the u,âg,âr,âi SDSS broad band filters. In this miniJPAS survey overview paper, we present the miniJPAS data set (images and catalogs), as we highlight key aspects and applications of these unique spectro-photometric data and describe how to access the public data products. The data parameters reach depths of magABâââ22â23.5 in the 54 narrow band filters and up to 24 in the broader filters (5Ï in a 3âł aperture). The miniJPAS primary catalog contains more than 64â000 sources detected in the r band and with matched photometry in all other bands. This catalog is 99% complete at râ=â23.6 (râ=â22.7) mag for point-like (extended) sources. We show that our photometric redshifts have an accuracy better than 1% for all sources up to râ=â22.5, and a precision of â€0.3% for a subset consisting of about half of the sample. On this basis, we outline several scientific applications of our data, including the study of spatially-resolved stellar populations of nearby galaxies, the analysis of the large scale structure up to zââŒâ0.9, and the detection of large numbers of clusters and groups. Sub-percent redshift precision can also be reached for quasars, allowing for the study of the large-scale structure to be pushed to zâ>â2.
