Endogenous Growth and Comparative Standards of Living between Mexico and the US

This paper calibrates an AK model of growth for Mexico. Investment financing is modeled considering the domestic savings ratio as well as net factorial income and capital inflows of the balance of payments. Productivity A and the rate of depreciation of capital are found using econometric techniques. According to this model, actual parameters determining growth in Mexico are compatible with a sustained long run rate of growth of about 3.6%. At the same time, under these circumstances the ratio of the Mexican GDP to US GDP would be growing in time. The model is very sensible to the parameters and depends strongly of Mexicans living in the US and transferring remittances to Mexico, nonetheless. If remittances were eliminated, the actual rate of domestic savings would not be compatible with positive growth in the long run, which implies that relatively speaking the domestic savings rate in Mexico is very low. The paper concludes that to assure a positive growth that improves standards of living and the relative size of Mexico with respect to the US, it is necessary to implement policies oriented to increase the domestic savings rate and productivity. Otherwise there are high risks of macroeconomic crises in the future.

If nominal wages adjust less frequently than prices, a constant rate of growth of the quantity of money will produce cyclical fluctuations of production and inflation. The same phenomenon can modify the average long run production of the economy, generating Phillips curves sometimes with a negative slope and some other times with a positive slope.

Olimpiada FDI: una suite de juegos educativos con ranking y medallero de la FDI

El proyecto OlimpiadaFDI ha consistido en el desarrollo de una plataforma gamificada de juegos educativos,centrada en el ámbito de la Ingeniería Informática. La visión del proyecto es la creación de una plataforma inspirada en Steam o Xbox Live en la que distintos desarrolladores pueden contribuir distintos juegos, pero las puntuaciones, insignias y logros conseguidos dentro de cada juego se asocian al perfil de cada usuario. Además, la plataforma está concebida para soportar juegos de distintas plataformas (e.g. HTML5, Android, C++, Java) que podrían ser implementadas por distintos equipos de desarrollo. De cara a conseguir estos objetivos, el desarrollado ha consistido en la realización de la infraestructura de una plataforma de distribución de juegos educativos y servicios, tanto para los juegos como para los usuarios. Esta plataforma se basa en una página web que nos permite realizar la gestión de los usuarios, además de gestionar las puntuaciones y logros de cada usuario, la creación de grupos de usuario y la consulta de rankings de puntuación. Para completar se ha desarrollado un amplio conjunto de juegos a modo de implementaciones de referencia, mostrando como distintos juegos de distintas plataformas podrían coexistir dentro del ecosistema de juegos propuesto por OlimpiadaFDI. Tanto los juegos como el portal web se comunican con un backend de servicios REST que lleva la gestión de usuarios, insignias, grupos y puntuaciones, dando lugar a un sistema modular y extensible. Esto supone además que la plataforma quedará abierta para que otros desarrolladores puedan aprovecharse de ella e incluir sus propios juegos

Fútbol: efectos de una unidad didáctica en la iniciación temprana

La iniciación temprana en el fútbol, que ya es habitual, ha justificado propuestas de adaptación que pretenden facilitar el primer contacto del niño con este deporte. Los especialistas coinciden en señalar al fútbol 3 como la propuesta de juego más recomendable en la iniciación al fútbol, al ser la unidad mínima que permite el desarrollo de todos los principios del juego. El presente trabajo pretende analizar el efecto, en el desempeño técnico del jugador prebenjamín, de una unidad didáctica construida para garantizar el respeto a estos principios, a partir de unas premisas de juego que fomentan la superioridad numérica del equipo en fase ofensiva. Mediante modelos de regresión logística simple se ha analizado la calidad –adaptación (al proceso formativo del niño) y éxito (si implica continuidad del ataque –pase acertado– o supone tiro)– de los contactos técnicos realizados por el jugador de categoría prebenjamín en el juego de fútbol 3, antes y después de la realización de la unidad didáctica. Evaluation of Surface Microtopography Engineered by Direct Laser Interference for Bacterial Anti-Biofouling

© 2015 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim. Modification of the biomaterial surface topography is a promising strategy to prevent bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. In this study, we use direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) to modify polystyrene surface topography at sub-micrometer scale. The results revealed that three-dimensional micrometer structures have a profound impact on bacterial adhesion. Thus, line- and pillar-like patterns enhanced S. aureus adhesion, whereas complex lamella microtopography reduced S. aureus adhesion in static and continuous flow culture conditions. Interestingly, lamella-like textured surfaces retained the capacity to inhibit S. aureus adhesion both when the surface is coated with human serum proteins and when the material is implanted subcutaneously in a foreign-body associated infection model.J.
