Existence, uniqueness and decay rates for evolution equations on trees

    Get PDF
We study evolution equations governed by an averaging operator on a directed tree, showing existence and uniqueness of solutions. In addition we find conditions of the initial condition that allows us to find the asymptotic decay rate of the solutions as t→∞t\to \infty. It turns out that this decay rate is not uniform, it strongly depends on how the initial condition goes to zero as one goes down in the tree.Fil: del Pezzo, Leandro Martin. The unique continuation property for a nonlinear equation on trees

    Get PDF
In this paper, we study the game p-Laplacian on a tree, that is, u(x) = α / 2 max y∈S(x) u(y) + min y∈S(x) u(y) + β m y∈S(x) u(y);here x is a vertex of the tree and S(x) is the set of successors of x. We study the family of the subsets of the tree that enjoy the unique continuation property, that is, subsets U such that u |U = 0 implies u ≡ 0.Fil: del Pezzo, Leandro Martin. The Endoplasmic Reticulum Glucosyltransferase Recognizes Nearly Native Glycoprotein Folding Intermediates

    Get PDF
The UDP-Glc:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase (GT), a key player in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) quality control of glycoprotein folding, only glucosylates glycoproteins displaying non-native conformations. To determine whether GT recognizes folding intermediates or irreparably misfolded species with nearly native structures, we generated and tested as GT substrates neoglycoprotein fragments derived from chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (GCI2) bearing from 53 to 64 (full-length) amino acids. Fragment conformations mimicked the last stage-folding structures adopted by a glycoprotein entering the ER lumen. GT catalytic efficiency (V(max)/K(m)) remained constant from GCI2-(1-53) to GCI2-(1-58) and then steadily declined to reach a minimal value with GCI2-(1-64). The same parameter showed a direct hyperbolic relationship with solvent accessibility of the single Trp residue but only in fragments exposing hydrophobic amino acid patches. Mutations introduced (GCI2-(1-63)V63S and GCI2-(1-64)V63S) produced slight structural destabilizations but increased GT catalytic efficiency. This parameter presented an inverse exponential relationship with the free energy of unfolding of canonical and mutant fragments. Moreover, the catalytic efficiency showed a linear relationship with the fraction of unfolded species in water. It was concluded that the GT-derived quality control may be operative with nearly native conformers and that no alternative ER-retaining mechanisms are required when glycoproteins approach their proper folding.Fil: Caramelo, Julio Javier. Urban growth and loss of green spaces in the metropolitan areas of São Paulo and Mexico City: effects of land-cover changes on climate and water flow regulation

    Get PDF
Urban green spaces provide ecosystem services that directly or indirectly benefit people, however, urban growth (especially in developing countries) generates the loss of these green areas and consequently of their ecosystem services. This paper aims to present the effects of land use and land cover changes in the last 30 years on two basic urban ecosystem services, water flow regulation and local and regional climate in two of main Latin American megacities (São Paulo and Mexico City). The study focuses on urban green spaces because they reduce the urban heat island effects, improve air quality, create habitats for biodiversity conservation, provide cultural services, and contribute to flooding prevention and groundwater conservation. A spatial analysis with the aid of geographic information systems was performed to assess (i) the urbanization process of the Metropolitan Areas of both cities over time; (ii) how this process generated changes in the land cover in both metropolises, and (iii) how these changes caused environmental negative impacts on ecosystem services. The loss of green areas as a consequence of urban expansion in the Metropolitan Areas of São Paulo and Mexico City changed the spatial distribution of urban heat island and increased the surface runoff, generating floods during the rainy periods. Our results suggest the urgent need for implementation of ecosystem-based spatial planning and ecological restoration of urban green areas in both studied cities to prevent further losses in ecosystem services and to improve the quality of life of urban inhabitants

Temporal and Spatial Differential Expression of Glutamate Receptor Genes in the Brain of Down Syndrome

    Get PDF
Studying the dysregulation of expression of glutamate receptors is crucial to better understand the mechanisms associated with cognitive disabilities in Down syndrome (DS) patients. By using data of microarray experiments previously deposited in GEO Dataset, we studied the expression of 26 glutamate receptor genes in DS brain samples since prenatal to adult age in several brain structures. Overall, our results showed a complexity in the expression of the genes which were dependent mainly on the brain structure analyzed; especially, the hippocampus showed a different expression pattern. While in the general brain analysis the overexpressed genes were GRIN3A and GRIN2C, higher expression levels of GRM1, GRID2, and GRIK1 gene receptors were recorded in hippocampus. Our results suggest that the glutamatergic system in association with other neurotransmitter systems in the human brain would associate with glutamatergic receptor alterations to bring upon synaptic changes and cognitive deficits in DS models

    Gestión de contenido organizacional (ECM)

Enterprise Content Management makes reference to the handling of organizational content through printed or electronic means. It comprises the strategies, methods, and tools used to capture, handle, protect, preserve, and submit content and documents related to organizational processes. The ECM is employed by several organizations nowadays since it provides help in the organizational process and thanks to this, it increases the company's profitability by means of improvement of the aspects related with the organization and management of documentation. We studied the general aspects of ECM and three different products are analyzed: Alfresco, Nuxeo, and SharePoint as a ground for the comprehension of this methodology, its characteristics, scopes, benefits, and suitability. A comparison is drawn between them based on the different perspectives: cost, community support, technology, options of execution environment, etc.WIS - X Workshop ingeniería de softwareRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI
