Three-dimensional harmonic oscillator and time evolution in quantum mechanics

The problem of defining time (or phase) operator for three-dimensional harmonic oscillator has been analyzed. A new formula for this operator has been derived. The results have been used to demonstrate a possibility of representing quantum-mechanical time evolution in the framework of an extended Hilbert space structure. Plantas na Medicina Tradicional de Cabo Verde

Neste trabalho apresenta-se o resultado de uma pesquisa pormenorizada sobre as plantas medicinais e aromáticas que se desenvolvem no arquipélago de Cabo Verde, apoiada na bibliografia actualmente disponível sobre o assunto. Indicam-se as famílias, nomes científicos e vernáculos, e distribuição no arquipélago, bem como os respectivos princípios activos, propriedades terapêuticas e as partes das plantas utilizadas na medicina popular tradicional. Foram identificados 157 táxones, pertencentes a 68 famílias, com interesse medicinal e aromático conhecido. Estas plantas são maioritariamente alóctones, introduzidas, subespontâneas, naturalizadas ou cultivadas. Cabo Verde, devido a diversos condicionalismos, nomeadamente, situação geográfica, humidade e altitude das diferentes ilhas, é rico em espécies endémicas com interesse medicinal mas cujas potencialidades são ainda pouco conhecidas. Neste estudo foram localizados 27 táxones com interesse medicinal, distribuídos por 21 famílias. Conclui-se que é necessário proceder a mais estudos sobre os endemismos, de forma a melhor avaliar o seu potencial interesse como plantas medicinais e aromáticas. No âmbito da medicina tradicional, urge realizar os seguintes estudos: (1) etnobotânicos; (2) composição química dos vários órgãos das plantas referidas com interesse, sobretudo, para combater as patologias para as quais ainda não foi encontrada resolução satisfatória; (3) distribuição geográfica e habitat precisos das plantas; (4) avaliação e experimentação do seu possível cultivo, de forma a evitar a extinção ou erosão genética motivada pela sua colheita excessiva; (5) propriedades terapêuticas; (6) toxicológicos, a fim de se conhecer os doseamentos eficientes e seguros e as respectivas contra-indicações

Photochemical studies of cis-[Ru(bpy)2(4-bzpy)(CO)](PF6)2 and cis-[Ru(bpy)2(4-bzpy)(Cl)](PF6): Blue light-induced nucleobase binding.

The ruthenium(II) compounds cis-[Ru(bpy)2(4-bzpy)(CO)](PF6)2 (I) and cis-[Ru(bpy)2(4-bzpy)(Cl)](PF6) (II) (4-bzpy=4-benzoylpyridine, bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The crystal structure of II was determined by X-ray diffraction. The photochemical behavior of I in aqueous solution shows that irradiation with ultraviolet light (365nm) releases both CO and 4-bzpy leading to the formation of the cis-[Ru(bpy)2(H2O)2]2+ ion as identified by NMR and electronic spectroscopy. Carbon monoxide release was confirmed with the myoglobin method and by gas chromatographic analysis of the headspace. CO release was not observed when aqueous I was irradiated with blue light (453nm). Changes in the electronic and 1H NMR spectra indicate that I undergoes photoaquation of 4-bzpy to form cis-[Ru(bpy)2(CO)(H2O)]2+. Blue light irradiation of aqueous II released the coordinated 4-bzpy to give the cis-[Ru(bpy)2(H2O)(Cl)]2+ ion. When the latter reaction was carried out in the presence of the nucleobase guanine, Ru-guanine adducts were formed, indicating that the metal containing photoproduct may also participate in biologically relevant reactions. The photochemical behavior of I indicates that it can release either CO or 4-bzpy depending on the wavelength chosen, a feature that may have therapeutic application

Rota de Arte Rupestre do Noroeste Português. Um projeto para o desenvolvimento de uma prática turística sustentável

A Rota de Arte Rupestre do Noroeste é um projeto que pretende explorar as potencialidades da arte rupestre do NW de Portugal enquanto recurso passível de desenvolvimento de uma prática turística sustentável. O NW português é uma área rica em arte rupestre de ar livre de cronologia pós-paleolítica, em especial do estilo designado de Arte Atlântica, específico da área. Além do seu inegável valor científico, o caráter estratégico deste recurso patrimonial deveria integrar programas de desenvolvimento e de organização do território. Para que tal se concretize há que colmatar carências ao nível da investigação, tais como a compilação e sistematização dos dados que promovam o avanço do conhecimento científico e, simultaneamente, propiciem discursos atrativos para o público em geral. O projeto tenciona aprofundar a investigação da arte rupestre segundo perspetivas arqueológicas e antropológicas, contribuir para salvaguardar este património arqueológico e promover a sua valorização na fachada ocidental no NW de Portugal, por forma a que se possa criar o produto turístico sustentável “Rota de Arte Rupestre do Noroeste”. Visa, ainda, rentabilizar o património “intangível” ligado a estes recursos, os recursos humanos das parcerias envolvidas no projeto – e incrementar o desenvolvimento sustentável do território abordado. Quality control procedures at Euskalmet data center

The Basque Country Mesonet measures more than 130 000 observations daily from its 85 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS). It becomes clear that automated software is an indispensable tool for quality assurance (QA) of this mesoscale surface observing network. This work describes a set of experimental semi-automatic quality control (QC) routines that is applied at Euskalmet data center.
