Entrevista con Mikel Forcada

Mikel Forcada és Catedràtic d’Universitat al Departament de llenguatges i sistemes informàtics de la Universitat d’Alacant, on desenvolupa la seva investigació en el marc del grup  de recerca Tansducens. La seva recerca està marcada pel seu interès en relació amb la traducció automàtica, la traducció assistida i el processament del llenguatge natural. Tothom coneix el sistema de traducció automàtica Apertium, però també han desenvolupat altres aplicacions com Bitextor, TagAlaginer, DocTrans, per citar-ne algunes, totes elles de codi obert. Mikel Forcada és president de l’Associació Europea de Traducció Automàtica (European Association of Machine Translation, EAMT). Destacarem a més que Mikel ha estat sempre predisposat a col·laborar i intercanviar punts de vista entre el món de la informàtica i el dels lingüistes i traductors, i aquesta entrevista és també fruit d’aquesta col·laboració. Hem preguntat a Mikel sobre el present i el futur de la traducció automàtica i els seus diferents desenvolupaments, y sobre el paper de traductors i lingüistes en aquesta evolució.Mikel Forcada is a full professor in the Department of Languages and Computing Systems at the University of Alicante. His work is heavily influenced by his interest in machine translation, computer assisted translation and processing natural language and carried out within the context of the research group Transducens. Their most well-known machine translation application is Apertium, but they have developed others such as Bitextor, TagAligner, DocTrans, all of which are written in open code.Forcada is the President of the European Association of Machine Translation, EAMT and has always been open to collaborating and exchanging points of view with those in the fields of computing, linguistics and translation. Teaching and learning terminology: new strategies and methods

In this special issue, we intend to present and reflect on experiences dealing with Terminology training, from a theoretical, practical and professional perspective. We believe that, after many years teaching this subject in different degrees and in different ways, it is time to consider what should be taught about Terminology, how to teach it, how it is learned, what experiences have been put into practice and how did they work, and how to connect what is taught in universities and other institutions with the practical skills that professionals from different areas (translators, information scientists, knowledge engineers) will require, with respect to their knowledge of Terminology. Translation technologies constitute an important new field of interdisciplinary study lying midway between computer science and translation. Its development in the professional world will largely depend on its academic progress and the effective introduction of translation technologies in the translators training curriculum. In this paper different approaches to the subject are examined so as to provide us with a basis on which to conduct an internal analysis of the field of Translation technologies and to structure its content. La representación de relaciones conceptuales en una ontología

We present how we have adapted ontologies to develop detailed analysis of the concepts and their relationships, which is at the basis of the elaboration of terminological definitions. We show the conceptual analysis, formalization and its implementation. In addition to the advantages of management, these systems also facilitate consistency and reasoning with data. The use of ontologies in terminology opens the way to linked data and exchange of terminological data in the new paradigm of the Semantic Web.Las bases de datos terminológicas no cuentan con una estructura eficaz para representar los conceptos y sus relaciones. Presentamos cómo hemos adaptado las ontologías para desarrollar análisis detallado de los conceptos y sus relaciones, que está en la base de la elaboración de definiciones terminológicas. Mostramos el análisis conceptual, formalización y su implementación. Además de las ventajas de la gestión, estos sistemas facilitan también la consistencia y el razonamiento con los datos. El uso de ontologías en terminología abre el camino hacia los datos enlazados e intercambio de datos terminológicos en el nuevo paradigma de la Web Semántica

Estrategias y recursos en la enseñanza de la Informática aplicada a la traducción

La enseñanza de la IAT entraña dificultades específicas relacionadas con aspectos técnicos y de infraestructura, con el diferente nivel de conocimientos previos de los estudiantes y con el carácter eminentemente práctico de la materia. Atendiendo a estas dificultades, se presentan algunas estrategias y recursos utilizados en los últimos cursos y otras que se están poniendo en marcha actualmente para facilitar el aprendizaje significativo de los contenidos, la enseñanza distribuida de las destrezas y la estimulación de actitudes positivas hacia el uso de las nuevas tecnologías

Estratègies i recursos en l'ensenyament de la Informàtica aplicada a la traducció

L'ensenyament de la Informàtica aplicada a la traducció (IAT) entranya dificultats específiques relacionades amb aspectes tècnics i d'infraestructura, amb el diferent nivell de coneixements previs dels estudiants i amb el caràcter eminentment pràctic de la matèria. Tenint en compte aquestes dificultats, es presenten algunes estratègies i recursos utilitzats en els últims cursos i d'altres que s'estan posant en marxa actualment per facilitar l'aprenentatge significatiu dels continguts, l'ensenyament distribuït de les destreses i l'estimulació d'actituds positives cap a l'ús de les noves tecnologies

The teaching of IAT (IT applied to translation) entails specific difficulties related to technical and infrastructural aspects, to students' varying levels of prior knowledge and to the eminently practical nature of the subject.
