First teuthid cephalopod from the Lower Jurassic of South America (Neuquén Basin, Argentina)
A new species of squid, Teudopsis jeletzkyi n. sp., is described from the Toarcian (Lower Jurassic) of the Los Molles Formation in Neuquen Province, central west Argentina. Fossil squids have thus far been unknown in the Mesozoic of South America. This species is the first record of the Order Teuthida in the Jurassic of South America
Tripartite entanglement detection through tripartite quantum steering in one-sided and two-sided device-independent scenarios
In the present work, we study tripartite quantum steering of quantum
correlations arising from two local dichotomic measurements on each side in the
two types of partially device-independent scenarios: -sided
device-independent scenario where one of the parties performs untrusted
measurements while the other two parties perform trusted measurements and
-sided device-independent scenario where one of the parties performs trusted
measurements while the other two parties perform untrusted measurements. We
demonstrate that tripartite steering in the -sided device-independent
scenario is weaker than tripartite steering in the -sided device-independent
scenario by using two families of quantum correlations. That is these two
families of quantum correlations in the -sided device-independent framework
detect tripartite entanglement through tripartite steering for a larger region
than that in the -sided device-independent framework. It is shown that
tripartite steering in the -sided device-independent scenario implies the
presence of genuine tripartite entanglement of quantum
system, even if the correlation does not exhibit genuine nonlocality or genuine

Discovery of new diketopiperazines inhibiting Burkholderia cenocepacia quorum sensing in vitro and in vivo
Burkholderia cenocepacia, an opportunistic respiratory pathogen particularly relevant for cystic fibrosis patients, is difficult to eradicate due to its high level of resistance to most clinically relevant antimicrobials. Consequently, the discovery of new antimicrobials as well as molecules capable of inhibiting its virulence is mandatory. In this regard quorum sensing (QS) represents a good target for anti-virulence therapies, as it has been linked to biofilm formation and is important for the production of several virulence factors, including proteases and siderophores. Here, we report the discovery of new diketopiperazine inhibitors of the B. cenocepacia acyl homoserine lactone synthase CepI, and report their anti-virulence properties. Out of ten different compounds assayed against recombinant CepI, four were effective inhibitors, with IC50 values in the micromolar range. The best compounds interfered with protease and siderophore production, as well as with biofilm formation, and showed good in vivo activity in a Caenorhabditis elegans infection model. These molecules were also tested in human cells and showed very low toxicity. Therefore, they could be considered for in vivo combined treatments with established or novel antimicrobials, to improve the current therapeutic strategies against B. cenocepacia
Chemostratigraphy of the Pliensbachian, Puesto Araya Formation (Neuquén Basin, Argentina)
In a preliminary attempt to establish an isotope stratigraphy, strontium, carbon and oxygen isotope ratios were determined from marine biogenic carbonates of Pliensbachian age, in the context of scheme of local ammonite Zones correlatable to the European Standard Zonation. Two sections, rio Atuel and arroyo Serrucho, of the mainly siliciclastic Puesto Araya Formation, Neuquen Basin, south-western Mendoza, Argentina, were studied. Specimens of the bivalve genera Weyla Bhom and Gryphaea Lamarck were selected for the isotopic determinations because of their low-Mg calcite original mineralogy and widespread presence. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry techniques were used to control the good degree of preservation of most of the biogenic material, as evidenced by pristine fabrics, 100% calcite composition and Sr, Mn and Fe concentrations. Although strontium isotope ratios are slightly scattered, it is possible to compare them with those of the Early Jurassic seawater reference curve. Carbon isotope signals show two relative maxima, correlatable with those recorded for the upper part of the Ibex Zone and the middle part of the Margaritatus Zone in various European sections, indicating the possible global significance of these events. δ18O values were found to be unreliable for isotope stratigraphy, as they are largely depleted in comparison to those of coeval unaltered marine carbonates
The toarcian oceanic anoxic event (Early Jurassic) in the Neuquén Basin, Argentina: A reassessment of age and carbon isotope stratigraphy
The Toarcian oceanic anoxic event (T-OAE) is recorded by the presence of globally distributed marine organic carbon– rich black shales and a negative carbon isotope shift, with δ13Corg values as low as -33‰, interrupting an overarching positive excursion. Here we present new biostratigraphic data and high-resolution δ13Corg data from two Southern Hemisphere localities: Arroyo Serrucho in the north and Arroyo Lapa in the south of the Neuquén Basin, Argentina. Previous studies at these localities aimed to provide an accurate numerical age for the T-OAE and characterization of its carbon isotope stratigraphy. The new carbon isotope data and ammonite biostratigraphy presented here from Arroyo Serrucho show the T-OAE to be recorded lower in the section than supposed by previous authors, thus calling into question the published age of the T-OAE in this section. A newly investigated exposure at Arroyo Lapa North shows a complex carbon isotope record with at least three high-amplitude fluctuations in the hoelderi zone (equivalent to the serpentinum zone in northwestern Europe), with δ13Corg values of <-28‰, and two intervening positive isotope excursions, with δ13Corg values around -24‰. At Arroyo Lapa South, the characteristic major stepped negative carbon isotope excursion is recorded, with δ13Corg values of <-30‰ and total organic-carbon contents increasing to 11%; above this level an erosional surface of a submarine channel truncates the section. La sección jurásica aflorante en las inmediaciones del arroyo Chacay Melehué. en el extremo sur de la Cordillera del Viento, fue descripta someramente por primera vez por Keídel en 1910. Desde entonces, y especialmente en las tres últimas décadas, ha sido investigada por otros geólogos y paleontólogos, convirtiéndose en una de las localidades clásicas del Jurásico argentino. Pese a los numerosos estudios efectuados aún subsisten importantes diferencias de opinión en cuanto a la asignación formaclonal y ubicación cronológica de las unidades litoestratigráílcas comprendidas entre el Caloviano Inferior y el Tithoniano.Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse

We describe here the life and career of geologists who beyond their nationality (Russian, Ukrainian, Tatar, German, etc.), were born on the territory of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation and their descendants that became geologists, all of whom lived and worked in Latin-American countries (where Spanish and Portuguese languages prevail).We include also geologists from USSR who worked temporary in some countries of Latin America and left contributions to geology in form of publications.Se describe la vida y trayectoria de geólogos que más allá de su nacionalidad (rusa, ucraniana, tártara, alemana, etc.), nacieron en territorios que pertenecieron al Imperio Ruso, la Unión Soviética o la Federación Rusa, y de sus descendientes graduados en geología, todos los cuales vivieron y trabajaron en países de Latinoamérica (en los cuales las lenguas que prevalecen son el español y el portugués). También se incluyen geólogos de la URSS que trabajaron temporariamente en algunos países de Latinoamérica y que con sus publicaciones contribuyeron a la Geología.Descreve a vida e a trajetória de geólogos que, além de sua nacionalidade (russos, ucranianos, tártaros, alemães, etc.), nasceram em territórios pertencentes ao Império Russo, à União Soviética ou à Federação Russa, e seus descendentes se formaram em geologia, todos os quais viveram e trabalharam em países latino-americanos (nos quais as línguas dominantes são o espanhol e o português).
