The role of information and communication technology in the transformation of consolidated business model: A study of taxi cooperatives in Brazil
The first radio taxi service in Brazil was created in Curitiba in 1976. The business model used that time was still in place until the creation of taxi service online applications for mobiles in 2012. Taxi cooperatives and associations saw their traditional business model being run over by the new technology. The final objective of this investigation is to verify how the cooperative business models adaptation happened in an innovation scenario generated by the use of technology. In this first work is presented a description of the changing face of how taxi cooperatives in Brazil operate before and after the proliferation of taxi mobile apps. A qualitative study was undertaken in Sao Paulo – biggest city in the country – and Curitiba – first Brazilian city with a radio taxi association. Among the interviewees there were taxi service customers, taxi drivers, cooperatives and taxi service online app companies’ representatives. Changes generated by the new technology were mainly perceived on customers’ value aggregation and on cost model. The transition from one model to another had many steps and not all cooperatives went through all of them. The duration of each one also varied among the cooperatives analyzed. Special attention was given to the steps that allowed the transition from one model to another
O MODELO ABERTO DE DESENVOLVIMENTO DE SOFTWARE EM PEQUENAS EMPRESAS BRASILEIRAS
Large companies in the information technology sector are opening the codes of strategic products to gain a competitive advantage. Under the philosophical paradigm of Critical Realism, the study aims to identify the mechanisms involved in the decision to adopt the open model of software development by small Brazilian companies. Using multiple case studies, the data were obtained from four Brazilian technology companies. The qualitative material collected in 2017 was analyzed using inductive and deductive methods, seeking evidence to corroborate the existing literature and identify eventual mechanisms associated with the specific context explored in this study. The main contributions of the study are the level of analysis, its anchoring in empirical data, the chosen context and the philosophical paradigm used by the authors. The study found that political instability and the high cost associated with adopting the open model of software development could be barriers for small companies wishing to adopt this model. The study also allows market managers to reassess their software development strategies.
The urban forestry on street is one aspect of urban ambience, whose importance is related to the chemical, physical, landscape, psychological, ecological, pedological, hydrological, atmospheric and acoustic funsction. But, often, the urban trees share space with urban infrastructure and can cause conflicts. The compatibility of afforestation with urban infrastructure (poles, inlets, trash cans, sidewalks) is a task that requires research, planning and management. In this context, we analyze the street tree and its relation to urban infrastructure in Joubert de Carvalho Street, in the city of Maringá, state of Paraná, South of Brazil. The methodological procedures comprised two phases: site characterization and qualyquantitative survey. The results showed that in the studied area there are 116 tree species, which 44% are species Sibipiruna (pluviosa Poincianella var. Peltophoroides (Benth) LP Queiroz) and 19% of Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia D. Don) species. 13 missing spaces of trees were identified. It was concluded that 66.00% of the trees do not cause conflicts with urban infrastructure. However, the highest levels of conflict are poles with (6.0%), buildings (8.0%) and overhead lines (11.0%).A arborização de acompanhamento viário é um dos aspectos da ambiência urbana, cuja importância está relacionada à função química, física, paisagística, psicológica, ecológica, pedológica, hidrológica, atmosférica e acústica.
The Influences of Strategic Information Systems on the Relationship between Innovation and Organizational Performance
This study aims to identify the influences of strategic information systems (SIS) on the relationship of innovation (exploration/exploitation), ambidexterity and organizational performance (OP). We used the statistical technique of Partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) with a sample of 256 Brazilian companies from different sectors. The data revealed that exploitative innovation was positively associated with OP. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that a strong SIS presence increases the influences of innovation (exploration and exploitation) and ambidexterity on OP. Ambidexterity was positively associated with OP and presented higher path coefficients compared to the relationships between exploratory and exploitative innovation and OP. This relationship shows that ambidextrous organizations have higher OP. The study also confirmed that 96% of ambidextrous organizations have a strong SIS presence. This study may have implications for the management practices of organizations that use SIS in their strategic planning stages by enabling innovation focused on improving OP
