The Objectives:  To review the surgical management of Supratentorial EDH, at our Department. Study Design:  Retrospective Review. Setting:  Department of Neurosurgery, Lahore General Hospital / PGMI, Lahore. Materials and Methods:  This is a retrospective case series of 1536 patients of Supratentorial EDH who were treated surgically between Jan 2005 and Dec 2009. Patients' medical records were reviewed to define variables associated with outcome at the time of discharge. Variables included in the analysis were time since injury, age, gender, severity of head injury, anatomical site of hematoma on CT scan and outcome at the time of discharge (Glasgow Outcome Scale). Patients harbouring extra-cranial injuries which required operative management by other departments, e.g. laprotomy, thoracotomy, chest intubation and cases having associated brain parenchymal injury requiring intervention, were excluded. Results:  In our study of 1536 patients the mean age was 20.46 years, the minimum age was 5 and maximum 60 years. The age range was 55 years. Out of the total 1536 patients 1068 i.e. 69.5% were male and only 468 i.e. 30.5% were females. Male to female ratio was 2.29 : 1. Patients presenting with Mild Injury was the largest group. 664 out of 1536 (n) i.e. 43.2% were having a score of GCS from 13 – 15.  Conclusions:  The surgical management of EDH is a rewarding and life saving procedure and young male population seems to be a vulnerable population group. &nbsp

Improving the energy efficiency for the WBSN bottleneck zone based on random linear network coding

The reduction of energy consumption and the successful delivery of data are important for the Wireless Body Sensor Network (WBSN). Many studies have been proposed to improve energy efficiency, but most of them have not focussed on the biosensor nodes in the WBSN bottleneck zone. Energy consumption is a critical issue in WBSNs, as the nodes that are placed next to the sink node consume more energy. All biomedical packets are aggregated through these nodes forming a bottleneck zone. This paper proposes a novel mathematical model for body area network (BAN) topology to explain the deployment and connection between biosensor nodes, simple relay nodes, network coding relay nodes and the sink node. Therefore, this paper is dedicated to researching both the energy saving and delivery of data if there is a failure in one of the links of the transmission, which relates to the proposed Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) model in the WBSN. Using a novel mathematical model for a WBSN, it is apparent that energy consumption is reduced and data delivery achieved with the proposed mechanism. This paper details the stages of the research work

Residents’ Satisfaction with Apartment Living in Kuwait: A Study of The Design of Jaber Al Ahmad Apartments

    Get PDF
This study examines public housing in Kuwait and Jaber Al Ahmad apartments housing project. It tries to figure out how housing provision, citizen expectations, and satisfaction are linked. Kuwait\u27s government provide housing for Kuwaiti married couples as part of a welfare program. This goal has proven difficult to achieve, with a waiting list of over 100,000 people. While the majority of applicants apply for a residential plot and a housing loan to build a single-family home, a small number of candidates apply for the apartment unit’s alternative. The government\u27s capacity to reduce housing demand hinges on its ability to persuade the public to move toward higher-density housing options. Understanding the concepts of housing expectation and satisfaction is crucial to achieve this goal. This research conducted face-to-face surveys with residents of the Jaber Al Ahmad project. It includes a detailed survey analysis as well as a cross-tabulation analysis by age group. When residents were asked why they picked an apartment over a single-family house and what their impressions were of living in the newly delivered apartment, the majority of respondents said they prefer a single-family house. These comments indicate that, while liking their apartment\u27s design and layout, they would prefer to live in a single-family home. The research sheds a light on the importance of finding a long-term, viable, and appealing public housing solution that meets Kuwaitis\u27 aspirations through the understanding of citizens expectation

© 2020, The Author(s). Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were decorated by activated carbon nanoparticles of resorcinol-formaldehyde aerogels. Carbon nanospheres and MWCNTs were mixed by equal mass ratios for different durations. The products were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, nanoscanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. The results indicated that a significant decoration with carbon nanoparticles occurred onto the MWCNTs.This publication was made possible by the NPRP award (NPRP 08-014-2-003) from the Qatar National Research Fund (a member of The Qatar Foundation). The Effect of Creativity on Entrepreneurial Behavior: The Moderating Role of Demographics

    Get PDF
This study aims to determine the effect of creativity on entrepreneurial behavior with demographics as a moderating variable. Creativity is critical for improving entrepreneurial behavior (EB). However, few studies exist in the literature about this topic in developing countries. Building on the literature, the study proposed a positive effect between creativity and entrepreneurial behavior. The study also proposed the demographic variables as moderating variables. The population of the study consists of all the entrepreneurs and workers at entrepreneurial enterprises in Jordan. The sample of study was composed of 155 respondents; the responses were gathered using the convenience sampling method. Simple linear regression and hierarchical regression were employed to examine the data. Results show a significant effect of creativity on entrepreneurial behavior. The results also demonstrate that none of the demographic characteristics produce a significant statistical change in the influence of creativity on EB. More studies on creativity and its impact on the EB of firms and employees at entrepreneurial firms are needed

Objective:  To report our data of cases of failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) and surgical and non surgical etiologies. Materials and Methods:  A review of cases of Failed back surgery Syndrome (FBSS), from 2003 to 2008 man-aged at The Neurosurgery Department Lahore General Hospital Lahore/PGMI, was conducted. The inclusion criterion was Re-admission within one year of their previous lumbar disk surgery at our department or other teaching institutes. 39 patients were found and included in the review. Two groups of patients were created on the basis of whether patient managed conservatively or re-explored. Important Data was recorded, analyzed and is presented. Results:  Out of the total 39 patients 15 (38.46%), were managed conservatively and included in group A. Twenty four 61.5% patients who were managed surgically with re-exploration and were grouped as B. 26 patients were male and 13 were female. Group A:  In this group 15 (38.46%), were included. These patients did not have a radicular element in their history of recurrent backache, and symptoms were vague.  Group B:  In group B, 24 (61.5%) patients were included. All these patients presented at re-admission with backache and radiculopathy. The time since previous surgery was not more than One year in all these patients.  Conclusion:  The failure of back surgery remains a challenge for the surgeons. There is a constant search for the causes and the pathogenesis of this syndrome and the best method of treatment. Recurrent disc is the commonest cause of failed back syndrome which responded well with reexporotive

The composition of roselle seed from oil, protein, ash, fiber, fatty acids and amino acids was determined and compared in three cultivars in order to use it as an unconventional nutritional source. Aswan cv. occupies the highest significant rank in protein (31.51), oil (23.70) and fiber (4.87%) contents. Aswan and Sewa cvs. had the highest significant unsaturated fatty acid composition, especially oleic and linoleic acids, with oleic acid having values of 36.22 and 33.34% and linoleic acid, 14.95 and 15.10% values. Protein of Aswan cv. had the highest significant values of seven essential amino acids and four non-essential amino acids, especially lysine and phenylalanine.Key words: Amino acids, fatty acids, nutrition, oil, protein, roselle, unconventional crops
