SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MANAGEMENT AT POTENTIAL WORLD HERITAGE SITES: LAND USE ANALYSIS BY USING GIS: CASE STUDY: JERASH ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE, JORDAN

The current study aims to analyse the land use changes in the cultural landscape of Jerash Archaeological Site and identify the impacts of modern urbanization which influenced it, as a potential World Heritage Site, during the period between 1953 and 2016. This study employed Geographic Information System (GIS) as a main tool of the analysis. The results show that significant changes in land use have occurred. For instance, in 1953, the unused spaces have estimated at about 65.8%, whereas the modern urbanization areas covered 3.1%. In 2016, the unused spaces decreased to about 1.8%, while the modern urbanization areas increased significantly to 57.6%. These land use changes caused urban development encroachments which damaged and caused visual pollution to the archaeological and traditional remains. GIS mapping was used to produce archaeological zoning maps through delineating buffer zones around the City Wall area and the antiquities areas. Buffer zoning could be a rational guidance to policy makers and tourism planners to limit the urban encroachments onto the cultural landscape of Jerash archaeological site

A knowledge based system for linking information to support decision making in construction

This work describes the development of a project model centred on the information and knowledge generated and used by managers. It describes a knowledge-based system designed for this purpose. A knowledge acquisition exercise was undertaken to determine the tasks of project managers and the information necessary for and used by these tasks. This information was organised into a knowledge base for use by an expert system. The form of the knowledge lent itself to organisation into a link network. The structure of the knowledge-based system, which was developed, is outlined and its use described. Conclusions are drawn as to the applicability of the model and the final system. The work undertaken shows that it is feasible to benefit from the field of artificial intelligence to develop a project manager assistant computer program that utilises the benefit of information and its link

Audio Hiding based on Wavelet Transform and Linear Predictive Coding

In this work an efficient method for hiding a speech in audio is proposed. The features of secretspeech is extracted with LPC (Linear Predictive Coding), and these parameters embedded in audio inchaotic order. Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is applied on audio frames to split the signal in high andlow frequencies. The embedding parameters are embedded in high frequency. The stego audio isperceptually indistinguishable from the equivalent cover audio. The proposed method allows hiding a sameduration of speech (secret) and audio (cover). The stego audio is subjected to objective tests such signal to noiseratio (SNR), signal to noise ratio segmental (SNRseg), Segmental Spectral SNR, Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR)and Correlation (Rxy) to determine the similarity with original audio

Concept, opportunities and challenges of urban tourism in the Arab world: Case studies of Dubai, Cairo and Amman

This paper aims to provide a better understanding of the current situation of urban tourism with referring to the experiences of the Arab World. By using bibliographic documentation and descriptive-analytic method, this paper addresses the main opportunities, impediments, and challenges of urban tourism in three Arab cities (Dubai, Cairo and Amman). This paper indicates that the three cities have many opportunities stemming from their location and their rich tourism resources. Moreover, urban tourism in these cities should confront some internal (country based) and external (global and regional) challenges such as seasonality, pollution, congestion, competition, funding and instability. Some recommendations and policy implications were suggested. The paper concludes, by arguing, that common internal and external challenges need to be addressed in a systematic manner within the broader cultural and tourism policy context in which urban tourism is now implicated. There is a lack of literature on urban tourism within the Arab countries, which is attributed to that tourism in the Arab world is heritage dominated type. Therefore, this research also attempts to bridge the gap in the existing literature about urban tourism in the Arab cities

The Gumbel- Pareto Distribution: Theory and Applications

We obtain some of its mathematical properties. Some structural properties of the new distribution are studied. The method of maximum likelihood is used for estimating the model parameters. Numerical illustration and an application to a real data set are given to show the flexibility and potentiality of the new model

SOCIAL MEDIA AS A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY: A CASE STUDY OF TWITTER IN PAKISTAN

Social media has evolved significantly over the years while providing strategic platforms for voices to reach billions of people within no time. Accordingly, it has advantages and disadvantages (threats). The nature of threats emanating from social media, especially Twitter, in the context of Pakistan, are mainly in the form of radicalization, glorification of terrorist groups, propagation of violent sub-nationalism and hybrid warfare. Though Pakistan has been relatively active after 2020 in responding to social media challenges, implementing social media regulations remains an issue, especially when most social media platforms are foreign in origin. This paper evaluates the interlinkage of social media and national security in the context of Pakistan while exploring how agents of insecurity and instability exploit social media and what response mechanism the state has placed to mitigate these threats. The paper is a qualitative inquiry using primary and secondary sources to answer these questions. Satisfaction survey on the critical care response team services in a teaching hospital

We surveyed nurses in the wards and obtained their feedback about the quality of care delivered by the Critical Care Response Team (CCRT).Methods: Our hospital has 900 beds. A self-administered survey was given onsite to all ward nurses. Survey items were identified, discussed, reviewed, piloted, and finalized over a 3-month period in a focus group discussion format during three CCRT core group meetings. Responses were anonymous and collected by the nurses onsite.Results: The total number of returned and analyzed surveys was 274 (98.6%). Ninety-seven percent agreed that CCRT staff arrived in a timely manner. Ninety-four percent reported that CCRT staff helped in managing sick patients and ~70% reported that it strengthened team dynamics. Only 50% of the nurses felt CCRT staff improved competence at the bedside. The overall satisfaction was 100%; none of the nurses were dissatisfied with the team.Conclusion: The CCRT helped manage sick patients in the wards. However, CRRT staff should remember to involve and communicate with the team initiator and the patient’s physician to optimize patient health care.Keywords: rapid response team, medical emergency team, critical care response team, satisfactio
