The present study aims to investigate prospective teachers’ views about creating websites for social studies teaching in distance education. To this end, the study employed the case study method, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group consisted of prospective social studies and classroom teachers studying in the 2019-2020 academic year at the Faculty of Education of a state university located in the Black Sea Region. The study was conducted in two phases: the first phase was carried out with 112 prospective teachers and the second with 12. Data were collected by means of structured and semi-structured interviews and were analyzed by content analysis. Data analysis revealed that websites were a part of the learning-teaching process, that it was important to use websites as educational tools, that websites enabled technology to be integrated into education, that websites enabled the inclusion of up-to-date content for effective teaching of social studies, and that websites provided students with easy access to knowledge through fun learning environments. Based on the results, it can be recommended that the creation and use of websites for the social studies course should be promoted among both working and prospective teachers and that social studies lessons can be taught more effectively with personal educational websites that contain up-to-date, fun, and interactive teaching materials

Traffic congestion has several adverse effects on urban traffic networks. Increased travel times of vehicles, with the addition of excessive greenhouse emissions, can be listed as harmful effects. To address these issues, transportation engineers aim to reduce private car usage, reduce travel times through different control strategies, and mitigate harmful effects on urban networks. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach to optimizing traffic signal control settings. This methodology takes into account both pedestrian delays and vehicular emissions. Non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II and Multiobjective Artificial Bee Colony algorithms are adopted to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. The vehicular emissions are modeled through the MOVES3 emission model and integrated into the utilized microsimulation environment. Initially, the proposed framework is tested on a hypothetical test network, followed by a real-world case study. Results indicate a significant improvement in pedestrian delays and lower emissions

The aim of this research is to examine the conformance of the skills in the curriculum for social studies course to the activities included in the 7thgrade social studies course book. In the research, document review that is of the qualitative research methods has been used. Research data have been gathered fromthe social studies course curriculum and the 7thgrade social studies course book approved by the Ministry of National Education. Data collection instruments have been selected according to the criterion sampling which is one of the purposeful sampling methods.Data have been analyzed by means of descriptive analysis. In the findings, each activity in the course book, by having been examined within the scope of learning domains, has been presented in detail so as to regard the skill and sub-dimensions, andrelevant results have been stated. As obtained on the results, it has been detected that the reflection of the skills included in the social studies course curriculum on the activities taking place in the 7thgrade social studies course book is unbalanced; and even, the activities for some skills and sub-dimensions are not involved in, at all. Accordingly, it is proposed that the activities must be included in each learning domain in the course book, by payingregard to the distribution to be proper and well-balanced in terms of the skills aimed to be gained within the curriculum. Furthermore, the explanations for the skills and sub-dimensions can be included in the curriculum, and the research can also be investigated as in a broader scope for the practice parts in the course books

    No full text
This work presents a methodology to obtain Dynamic User Equilibrium (DUE) over a road network considering the exhausted gas effect of motorized traffic. On purpose, three emission models are integrated to the traffic simulator AIMSUN, and an entire modeling structure is proposed. The proposed methodology is tested on both a hypothetical test network and a real-world network in Istanbul, Turkey. With the use of dynamic traffic assignment components of AIMSUN, emissions are incorporated into dynamic cost functions. Furthermore, link travel times are considered in the dynamic cost functions in conjunction with emissions. The DUE condition is converged according to dynamic cost functions. Results with the employment of different emission models on a real road network are compared and discussed

SUMO2019:Editor's Preface This volume contains the papers presented at the SUMO Conference 2019 Simulating Connected Urban Mobility. The conference was held in Berlin from 13-15 May 2019. The goal of the conference was to present new results in the field of mobility simulation and modelling using traffic tools and data which are open available. There were 32 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least 2 program committee members. The committee decided to accept 22 papers. Traffic simulations have a high value for traffic research studies. New traffic strategies can be tested and evaluated in advance with little costs. For realistic simulation results a complex traffic simulation framework is needed. One microscopic traffic simulation for this purpose is the open source tool Eclipse SUMO (Simulation of open mobility) which is available since 2001. SUMO provides a wide range of transport planning and modelling applications. The major topic of the 7th SUMO conference is the simulation of connected vehicles. This volume contains articles about simulator coupling, connected and automated Vehicles. Furthermore, the journal includes also papers about new algorithms for traffic light systems and new applications for the simulation of other traffic modes or reinforcement learning strategies. We would like to thank EasyChair for the conference support and its helpfull conference management tool. Laura Bieker-Walz Melanie Weber Robert Hilbrich Michael Behrisch July 24, 2019 Berli
