Toward a Theoretical Model for Scientific Information Seeking

According to the literature reviewed in this article, faculty members who are involved in research have a variety of information-seeking behaviours. Scholarly information needs are represented in a new way by a new model. Career advancement, discovery tools, and interpersonal networks all play a role in the model\u27s design. TD Wilson and James Krikelas\u27 theoretical frameworks play a significant role in constructing the model for describing scientific information needs. University administrators and librarians can use this model to help faculty with their information-seeking, research, and teaching endeavors

Rancang Bangun Sistem Monitoring Struktur Bangunan Berbasis Jaringan Sensor Nirkabel dengan Analisis Nilai Modal Struktur (Studi Kasus Prototype Jembatan)

Sistem monitoring struktural adalah sistem yang digunakan untuk memantau suatu struktur bangunan untuk mendapatkan status kondisi dari struktur bangunan tersebut. Sistem monitoring ini akan mendapatkan nilai modal dari struktur yang diamati. Nilai modal tersebut adalah eigen frequency dari struktur yang dapat menunjukkan perubahan dari struktur bangunan. Pada tugas akhir ini dikembangkan prototipe sistem monitoring struktural dengan daya rendah. Alat yang digunakan untuk proses pengambilan data adalah Arduino Uno dengan accelerometer ADXL-345 3-axis model GY-291 dengan media pengiriman nRF2401.Metode yang digunakan untuk ekstraksi nilai eigen frequency dari data getaran adalah algoritma FFT (Fast Fourier Transform). Uji coba yang dilakukan dibagi menjadi dua bagian; pertama menggunakan prototipe jembatan dimana perubahan struktur diwakili oleh longgarnya baut pada prototype jembatan. Percobaan yang kedua menggunakan jembatan sesungguhnya dengan membandingkan struktur dari lokasi yang berbeda. Hasil dari uji coba tersebut diperoleh akurasi yang cukup baik. Pada uji coba pada prototipe jembatan akurasi yang didapatkan sebesar 93,33% sedangkan pada uji coba pada jembatan sebenarnya sebesar 67,5%. ==================================================================== Structural health monitoring system is a system built with purpose to monitor a structural object to discover the condition of the structure. This m onitoring system will be discovering modal value of the structure . That modal value is eigen frequency ,where if there is eigen frequency change means there is a change in structural object . In this undergraduate thesis, a structural monitoring system with low pow er usage has been developed. The device used to collect data from prototype is an Arduino Uno module equipped with an ADXL - 345 , 3 - axis accelerometer model GY - 291 and nRF24l01 as data transmission media. FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) has been used as t he method to extract eigen frequency from vibration data . The experiment is divided into two parts; first part of the ex periment is conducted using a bridge prototype where the bolt will be used as a mean to change the structure . The second part of the experiment is conducted on a real bridge where the eigen frequency of one location on the bridge is compared to eigen frequency of different location on the structure. The result of experiments done in this thesis were adequate. Accuracy of the prototype experiment was 93,33% and the bridge experiment was 67,5%

Use of simulation based technology in pre-clinical years improves confidence and satisfaction among medical students

Objective: To determine perception of medical students about learning from integrated simulated clinical skill sessions as part of the undergraduate curriculum.Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education, Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, from July 2018 to February 2019, and comprised first year medical students undertaking the Respiration and Circulation module of the curriculum. Quantitative data was collected using a questionnaire and the responses were assessed on a five-point Likert scale. Data was analysed using SPSS 21. Qualitative data was gathered through focused group discussion with students and an in-depth interview with the facilitator conducting the sessions. The data was subjected to thematic analyses.Results: Of the 161 subjects, 71(44%) participated in the session I and 90(56%) in the session II. Altogether 68(96%) students in session I and 81(90%) in session II believed integrated sessions to be effective in achieving learning objectives, and 65(92%) in session I and 79(88 %) in session II found them motivating, while 61(86%) in session I and 76(84%) in session II expressed the confidence that they had accomplished learning objectives and felt they had learned practical clinical skills; session I, 59(84%), session II, 73(81%). Qualitative analysis revealed that these sessions enhanced understanding of the subject matter and student engagement.Conclusions: Integrated clinical skills sessions improved students\u27 interest, engagement and confidence. It should be implemented in undergraduate medical teaching curriculum

Phytohormones as Growth Regulators During Abiotic Stress Tolerance in Plants

Phytohormones (PHs) play crucial role in regulation of various physiological and biochemical processes that govern plant growth and yield under optimal and stress conditions. The interaction of these PHs is crucial for plant survival under stressful environments as they trigger signaling pathways. Hormonal cross regulation initiate a cascade of reactions which finely tune the physiological processes in plant architecture that help plant to grow under suboptimal growth conditions. Recently, various studies have highlighted the role of PHs such as abscisic acid, salicylic acid, ethylene, and jasmonates in the plant responses toward environmental stresses. The involvement of cytokinins, gibberellins, auxin, and relatively novel PHs such as strigolactones and brassinosteroids in plant growth and development has been documented under normal and stress conditions. The recent identification of the first plant melatonin receptor opened the door to this regulatory molecule being considered a new plant hormone. However, polyamines, which are not considered PHs, have been included in this chapter. Various microbes produce and secrete hormones which helped the plants in nutrient uptake such as N, P, and Fe. Exogenous use of such microbes help plants in correcting nutrient deficiency under abiotic stresses. This chapter focused on the recent developments in the knowledge related to PHs and their involvement in abiotic stresses of anticipation, signaling, cross-talk, and activation of response mechanisms. Information professionals\u27 hiring and retention: Pakistani librarians\u27 perspectives

The purpose of this research was to shed light on the problems faced by IPs working in Pakistani academic libraries. It lays out the challenges that academic libraries confront when trying to hire qualified IPs and suggests solutions for doing so in today\u27s fast-paced academic setting. It also includes a list of desirable qualities that universities and colleges seek when employing IPs. We conducted semi-structured interviews with ten hiring-process-involved libraries in charge at five public and private universities. Based on the results, it seems that in the present and future, interpersonal skills are the most sought after quality in IP hires, followed by topic knowledge and an IT orientation. Good compensation, a welcoming workplace with opportunities for learning and professional growth, and quick promotions were cited as important factors in attracting and retaining the best people in academic libraries

Potassium humate and NPK application rates influence yield and economic performance of potato crops grown in clayey loam soils

Potassium humate is one of the alternate sources of organic matter for improving physico-chemical properties of soils, crop growth and yield. The study investigated the effect of using different rates of potassium humate with and without recommended inorganic fertilizers in clayey loam soil on yield and economics of potato production. Four field experiments were conducted during 2010-11 and 2011-12 by using four levels of each, NPK (0, 50, 75 and 100% recommended dose) and potassium humate (0, 8, 12 and 16 kg ha-1) in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Tuber number, tuber fresh and dry weight and biological yield per hill, tuber yield per hectare and harvest index were significantly and positively affected by increasing level of NPK in both autumn and spring crops. Application of potassium humate significantly increased tuber fresh and dry weights (up to 10.95% and 14.43%; respectively), tuber yield (up to 10.96%), biological yield (up to 8.46%) and harvest index (up to 3.1) in both autumn and spring crops but improved tuber number per hill only in autumn crops. Application of full rate of NPK fertilizers with 16 kg ha-1 potassium humate resulted in the highest tuber yield (19.749 tons ha-1). However, study results of benefit cost ratio indicated that application of NPK at 75% of recommended dose with 16 kg ha-1 potassium humate remained the most economical for potato growers

Understanding the Antecedents and Consequences of Service-Sales Ambidexterity: A Motivation-Opportunity-Ability (MOA) Framework

Drawing on the motivation, opportunity and ability (MOA) framework, we investigate the influence of charismatic leadership on salespeople’s service and sales activities—termed service-sales ambidextrous (SSA) behavior, which subsequently turn into service recovery performance outcomes. The primary aim of this research is to strengthen salespeople’s service quality in parallel to their selling activities while recovering a service failure. We validate the model using a sample of 344 business-to-business salespeople using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique. Study results show that charismatic leadership is positively and significantly related to service-sales ambidexterity. Likewise, service-sales ambidexterity has a positive and significant relationship with service recovery performance and adaptive selling behavior. Moreover, we found a significant relationship between adaptive selling behavior and service recovery performance. The results further specify that salesperson motivation, opportunity and ability to engage in SSA significantly moderate the relationship between charismatic leadership and service-sales ambidexterity. The results suggest the need for training programs that provide the salesperson with opportunities to understand the simultaneous implementation of selling strategies while also providing customer services
