Quasi-infra-red fixed points and renormalisation group invariant trajectories for non-holomorphic soft supersymmetry breaking

In the MSSM the quasi-infra-red fixed point for the top-quark Yukawa coupling gives rise to specific predictions for the soft-breaking parameters. We discuss the extent to which these predictions are modified by the introduction of additional ``non-holomorphic'' soft-breaking terms. We also show that in a specific class of theories there exists an RG-invariant trajectory for the ``non-holomorphic'' terms, which can be understood using a holomorphic spurion term.Comment: 24 pages, TeX, two figures. Uses Harvmac (big) and epsf. Minor errors corrected, and the RG trajectory explained in terms of a holomorphic spurion ter

Perfect k-Colored Matchings and (k+2)-Gonal Tilings

We derive a simple bijection between geometric plane perfect matchings on 2n points in convex position and triangulations on n+2 points in convex position. We then extend this bijection to monochromatic plane perfect matchings on periodically k-colored vertices and (k+2)-gonal tilings of convex point sets. These structures are related to a generalization of Temperley–Lieb algebras and our bijections provide explicit one-to-one relations between matchings and tilings. Moreover, for a given element of one class, the corresponding element of the other class can be computed in linear time

Deep learning-assisted radiomics facilitates multimodal prognostication for personalized treatment strategies in low-grade glioma

Determining the optimal course of treatment for low grade glioma (LGG) patients is challenging and frequently reliant on subjective judgment and limited scientific evidence. Our objective was to develop a comprehensive deep learning assisted radiomics model for assessing not only overall survival in LGG, but also the likelihood of future malignancy and glioma growth velocity. Thus, we retrospectively included 349 LGG patients to develop a prediction model using clinical, anatomical, and preoperative MRI data. Before performing radiomics analysis, a U2-model for glioma segmentation was utilized to prevent bias, yielding a mean whole tumor Dice score of 0.837. Overall survival and time to malignancy were estimated using Cox proportional hazard models. In a postoperative model, we derived a C-index of 0.82 (CI 0.79-0.86) for the training cohort over 10 years and 0.74 (Cl 0.64-0.84) for the test cohort. Preoperative models showed a C-index of 0.77 (Cl 0.73-0.82) for training and 0.67 (Cl 0.57-0.80) test sets. Our findings suggest that we can reliably predict the survival of a heterogeneous population of glioma patients in both preoperative and postoperative scenarios. Further, we demonstrate the utility of radiomics in predicting biological tumor activity, such as the time to malignancy and the LGG growth rate

Open Government Data: A Focus on Key Economic and Organizational Drivers

    Get PDF
Grounding the analysis on multidisciplinary literature on the topic, the existing EU legislation and relevant examples, this working paper aims at highlighting some key economic and organizational aspects of the "Open Government Data" paradigm and its drivers and implications within and outside Public Administrations. The discussion intends to adopt an "Internet Science" perspective, taking into account as enabling factors the digital environment itself, as well as specific models and tools. More "traditional" and mature markets grounded on Public Sector Information are also considered, in order to indirectly detect the main differences with respect to the aforementioned paradig

The properties relevant for technical processing of both individual composite components, starch and flax, have been determined: moisture, density, grain-size distribution, dimensional stability under heat, fibre-length distribution, degree of destructuration in thermoplastic starches (TPS). TPS-flax fiber composites were prepared using a twin-screw extruder, and the mechanical and migration properties of the composites have been studied. Under optimized process conditions almost perfect starch desintegration was achieved either with an excess of water or with propanetriol as an additive. The reinforcement of the flax fibres leads to a pronounced improvement of the long-term constancy of the TPS properties. Measuring Resemblance of Complex Patterns

On a collection of subsets of a space, fundamentally different metrics may be defined. In pattern matching, it is often required that a metric is invariant for a given transformation group. In addition, a pattern metric should be robust for defects in patterns caused by discretisation and unreliable feature detection. We formalise these properties by presenting axioms. Finding invariant metrics without requiring such axioms is a trivial problem. Using our axioms, we analyse various pattern metrics, including the Hausdorff distance and the symmetric difference

THE RECTILINEAR CROSSING NUMBER OF Kn: CLOSING IN (OR ARE WE?)

Abstract. The calculation of the rectilinear crossing number of complete graphs is an important open problem in combinatorial geometry, with important and fruitful connections to other classical problems. Our aim in this work is to survey the body of knowledge around this parameter. 1
