This thesis covers the issue of Jerusalem in the Arab-Israeli conflict since the British occupation 1917, the main argument is that , contrary to assertions the conflict has defined and redefined their positions regarding the city in different occasions , the construction of nation-states and national identities have been the primary reason for the changes in the definitions. By drawing in the theory of conflict resolution and the literature of nationalism the thesis validates the core argument by close scrutiny of the positions held by the parties to the conflic

Sand casting, the most widely used casting process, utilizes expendable sand molds to form complex metal parts that can be made of nearly any alloy. Because the sand mold must be destroyed in order to remove the part, called the casting, sand casting process typically has a low production rate. Commercial simulation software was required to determine the behavior of the flow and solidification of molten metal inside the mold cavity. For this project, software MagmaSoft® MAGMAsolid version 4.0 (c) MAGMA GmbH (1989 - 1999) Magma were used in giving clear picture of the molten metal behaviors it is also the most effective way in optimizing the gating system rather than conventional trial and error method. In this project, two parts of simulation model were developed that which the first, using pattern with ingate at the front side of the product and the other, using pattern with ingate at the center of the product. In order to compare between these two gating system, three results from the simulation were taken, that was porosity, hotspot, and liquid to solid. As the result, the simulation predicted porosity coincided with the performed experiments, demonstrating the flow rate of the molten metal inside the cavity, and the solidification behavior of the molten metal. As changing the gating system, the results from the simulation for the final products were in the acceptable range of specification. The processes making of the pattern, follow board, and mold were done by follow the second gating system because of the easier to produce and more effective. After the pouring process, the result obtained from the simulation and poured products were nearly the same. The simulation assist proved to be the best way to reduce the defect of the casting product at early stage

    Get PDF
There being no published data on the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in the UAE, a base -line study was carried out on a randomly selected population of healthy adults drawn from subjects presenting themselves for a health certificate at the Department of Preventive Medicine, Al Ain, or presenting for blood donation at the two main hospitals in Al Ain, the Tawam Hospital and Al Ain Hospital. Commercially available VIDAS IgG and IgM kits were used to test for seropositivity. A validated questionnaire was used to record personal data and blood was drawn from each donor after informed consent. All raw data and test results were fed into a computer for a statistical analysis of results. The overall IgG seropositivity rate was 33.6% and the IgM seropositivity rate 2.7 %, the former on a sample size of 941 and the latter on a smaller sample of 75 owing to limitation of research funds. No significant difference of IgG seropositivity was found between samples drawn from Preventive Medicine department and two Blood Banks, or between the sexes, and although rural dwellers showed lower seropositivity (25%) compared to urban dwellers (35.1%), the difference was not significant. IgG seropositivity increased with every successive decade of life, with 19% for \u3c20 years old to 42.2% for \u3e50 year old. Statistically significant association was found between IgG seropositivity and both nationality groups (Higher amongst the Jordanians, Palestinians, Lebanese and Syrians at 56.4% and lowest amongst Far East Asians at 21.9%) and occupation (surprisingly highest amongst professional groups at 48.3% and lowest amongst farm labourers at 22.4%). These findings are clearly related to the different environmental and behavioral factors such as different culinary habits and varying risk factors associated with occupation. An imp0l1ant finding was the seropositivity of IgM antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii amongst blood donors. Even at the low rate of 2.7% a transmission risk has been identified

Step Detection Algorithm For Accurate Distance Estimation Using Dynamic Step Length

In this paper, a new Smartphone sensor based algorithm is proposed to detect accurate distance estimation. The algorithm consists of two phases, the first phase is for detecting the peaks from the Smartphone accelerometer sensor. The other one is for detecting the step length which varies from step to step. The proposed algorithm is tested and implemented in real environment and it showed promising results. Unlike the conventional approaches, the error of the proposed algorithm is fixed and is not affected by the long distance. Keywords distance estimation, peaks, step length, accelerometer.Comment: this paper contains of 5 pages and 6 figure

A Deconstructive Study in Robert Frost's Poem: The Road not Taken

    Get PDF
"The Road not Taken," is, no doubt, one of Robert Frost's major poems. Any critic of the poem can go so far as to say that the poem is one of the World's masterpieces. The text gives itself to reading and speculation by its power of generating new meanings, everlasting sweetness, and aesthetic value.  Critics wrote controversial essays on the poem and its meanings, yet, no particular reading can be considered inclusive. All the readings lead one to the other, but no critic can say that this particular reading is better. This study tries to come, as close as it can, to the text in order to deconstruct it and come up with a new reading of the poem by applying the principles of the theory of Deconstruction, for the first time, to the text and to the main differences upon which the aesthetic value of the poem rests
