Comparison of Methods to Reduce Grid Orientation Effect in Miscible Flood Simulation

    Get PDF
Numerical dispersion is an artefact of current numerical analysis techniques that can cause severe distortions in simulations of processes in which relatively rapid saturation changes occur. Grid Orientation Effect (GOE) is a phenomenon in simulation caused by numerical dispersion, in which calculated performance is influenced by the orientation of the grid relative to the locations of injection and production wells. Pressures as well as saturations are distorted by grid orientation. This effect can cause serious problems in simulation of steam flooding or miscible-gas displacements. Therefore it is the objectives of this project to investigate the seriousness of this problem and the means in reducing the effect, using a numerical simulation. Carbon dioxide (CO2) miscible flooding process is being simulated on a homogeneous conceptual model, utilizing both parallel and diagonal grid configurations. Three methods of reducing GOE were studies; namely the two point upstream weightage method, nine-point scheme and increment of grid block (refining grid). Results were analysed and compared to evaluate the effectiveness of each method used. Results showed that the nine-point scheme gives the highest incremental recovery. However, in overall, combination of the three methods in parallel orientation yields the highest increment (9.15%). The average result for comparing the highest in parallel orientation and the lowest in diagonal orientation is 6.906%. Since the result is around 7%, it can be concluded that the results are converging

The level of trust in government is important because its reflect the support of people to their government. The higher level of trust will give government more power to implement development to the country. Moreover, government that gain higher confidence from the people's can play their role effectively compared to the government who failed to gain support from them. This paper will discuss the level of trust among local universities students' in Malaysia. Their opinion is crucial because they are our future leader

An Improved Object Detection and Trajectory Prediction Method for Traffic Conflicts Analysis

    Get PDF
Although computer vision-based methods have seen broad utilisation in evaluating traffic situations, there is a lack of research on the assessment and prediction of near misses in traffic. In addition, most object detection algorithms are not very good at detecting small targets. This study proposes a combination of object detection and tracking algorithms, Inverse Perspective Mapping (IPM), and trajectory prediction mechanisms to assess near-miss events. First, an instance segmentation head was proposed to improve the accuracy of the object frame box detection phase. Secondly, IPM was applied to all detection results. The relationship between them is then explored based on their distance to determine whether there is a near-miss event. In this process, the moving speed of the target was considered as a parameter. Finally, the Kalman filter is used to predict the object\u27s trajectory to determine whether there will be a near-miss in the next few seconds. Experiments on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) datasets showed results of 0.94 mAP compared to other state-of-the-art methods. In addition to improved detection accuracy, the advantages of instance segmentation fused object detection for small target detection are validated. Therefore, the results will be used to analyse near misses more accurately

Determinants of Attitude towards Supply Chain Finance Among Malaysian Manufacturing Companies: A Preliminary Investigation

    Get PDF
Supply chain finance can be regarded as a new way to support the competitiveness and resilience of companys financial performance since the financial crises in 2008. Despite many benefits that it can offer, the adoption rate was still very low especially in developing countries. In Malaysia, the lower adoption rate is witnessed by low penetration of supply chain finance among manufacturing industry players. Business must not only focus on conventional way of financing their projects but it is essentially finance the projects with less cost possible. However, this has not been met. The purpose of this paper is to examine the feasibility of the survey instrument in determining factors that influence the attitude towards supply chain finance among the manufacturing companies. A survey questionnaire is distributed to 40 manufacturing companies based on Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers 2017 directory books using random sampling technique as the preliminary investigation. The research findings justify further refinement and show that the survey instrument is appropriate in a wider study of a representative sample of the manufacturing industry

Industry 4.0 project prioritization by using q-spherical fuzzy rough analytic hierarchy process

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, is attracting a significant amount of attention because it has the potential to revolutionize a variety of industries by developing a production system that is fully automated and digitally integrated. The implementation of this transformation, however, calls for a significant investment of resources and may present difficulties in the process of adapting existing technology to new endeavors. Researchers have proposed integrating the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) with extensions of fuzzy rough sets, such as the three-dimensional q-spherical fuzzy rough set (q-SFRS), which is effective in handling uncertainty and quantifying expert judgments, to prioritize projects related to Industry 4.0. This would allow the projects to be ranked in order of importance. In this article, a novel framework is presented that combines AHP with q-SFRS. To calculate aggregated values, the new framework uses a new formula called the q-spherical fuzzy rough arithmetic mean, when applied to a problem involving the selection of a project with five criteria for evaluation and four possible alternatives, the suggested framework produces results that are robust and competitive in comparison to those produced by other multi-criteria decision-making approaches

Exploration of active manipulation of bioparticles has been impacted by the development of micro-/nanofluidic technologies, enabling evident observation of particle responses by means of applied tunable external force field, namely, dielectrophoresis (DEP), magnetophoresis (MAG), acoustophoresis (ACT), thermophoresis (THM), and optical tweezing or trapping (OPT). In this chapter, each mechanism is presented in brief yet concise, for broad range of readers, as strong foundation for amateur as well as brainstorming source for experts. The discussion covers the fundamental mechanism that underlying the phenomenon, presenting the theoretical and schematic description; how the response being tuned; and utmost practical, the understanding by specific implementation into bioparticles manipulation engaging from micron-sized material down to molecular level particles

Masyarakat Muslim Melayu di Singapura: Kajian Terhadap Isu dan Tantangan dalam Dakwah dan Pemikiran Islam Era Globalisasi

This paper aims to examine and assess the position of Islam as al-Din or religion for Malay Muslim community in Singapore. By using primary and secondary sources in the field of Islamic thought, the main and primary issues faced Malay Moslem society from various ranks, as well as internal, external and et cetera in addition to studying the methods and approaches applied by MUIS (Majelis Ugama Islam Singapore) specifically as the Islamic supreme and organization in the republic to solve the problems that arise in society since the first. The result of the study showed that Islam in Singapore is ASWJ (Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaah), as any other country in the overseas, but rather obvious distinction is due to the nature and attitude of openness and positiveness shown by Malay Muslim society in accepting diversity and different forms and thoughts. In summary, they are united in the difference “agree to disagree.

Removal of Lead (Pb) From Aqueous Solutions Using Exoskeleton of Black Solider Fly (BSF)

Lead (Pb) pollution in water sources poses environmental and public health risk. It is important to mitigate the effects by developed an effective remediation method. The potential use of deceased black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) to remove Pb from aqueous solutions was studied. The flies were ground into a fine powder, analyzed, and then subjected to adsorption studies using Pb synthetic aqueous solutions. Results showed that the deceased black soldier flies are effective in removing Pb from aqueous solutions. The findings lead to the development of resource-efficient heavy metal remediation methods that use the large biomass of black soldier flies
