    Optimal transportation, topology and uniqueness

    The Monge-Kantorovich transportation problem involves optimizing with respect to a given a cost function. Uniqueness is a fundamental open question about which little is known when the cost function is smooth and the landscapes containing the goods to be transported possess (non-trivial) topology. This question turns out to be closely linked to a delicate problem (# 111) of Birkhoff [14]: give a necessary and sufficient condition on the support of a joint probability to guarantee extremality among all measures which share its marginals. Fifty years of progress on Birkhoff's question culminate in Hestir and Williams' necessary condition which is nearly sufficient for extremality; we relax their subtle measurability hypotheses separating necessity from sufficiency slightly, yet demonstrate by example that to be sufficient certainly requires some measurability. Their condition amounts to the vanishing of the measure \gamma outside a countable alternating sequence of graphs and antigraphs in which no two graphs (or two antigraphs) have domains that overlap, and where the domain of each graph / antigraph in the sequence contains the range of the succeeding antigraph (respectively, graph). Such sequences are called numbered limb systems. We then explain how this characterization can be used to resolve the uniqueness of Kantorovich solutions for optimal transportation on a manifold with the topology of the sphere.Comment: 36 pages, 6 figure

    Pengelolaan Pemetikan Tanaman Teh (Camellia sinensis (L.). O. Kuntze) di Wonosobo, Jawa Tengah

    Teh merupakan salah satu komoditas perkebunan yang berperan penting dalam perekonomian Indonesia sebagai sumber devisa dari kegiatan ekspor. Pemetikan merupakan kegiatan pemanenan hasil dari tanaman teh yang dapat mempengaruhi kualitas dan kuantitas pucuk. Penelitian bertujuan mempelajari dan menganalisis pengelolaan pemetikan tanaman teh yang dilakukan pekerja dibanding standar yang dimiliki perusahaan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Wonosobo, Jawa Tengah pada bulan Januari – Maret 2020. Percobaan disusun menggunakan uji t berpasangan dengan membandingkan umur tanaman terhadap mutu hasil petik tanaman teh. Hasil pengamatan menunjukan bahwa tinggi bidang petik, diameter bidang petik, tinggi jendangan, gilir petik, analisis pucuk, dan kapasitas pemetik telah memenuhi standar yang ditetapkan. Hasil analisis petik menunjukan perlu adanya peningkatan dalam teknik pemetikan di lapangan agar kualitas pucuk memenuhi standar yang ditetapkan. Kapasitas pemetik tidak dipengaruhi oleh usia dan lama kerja pemetik. Kata kunci: daun pemeliharaan, gilir petik, kapasitas pemeti

    REPRESENTATION OF ERYTHROCYTES IN PIGLET (Sus scrofa) POST HYPOVOLEMIC SHOCK WITH NORMO AND HYPERVOLEMIA RESUSCITATION OF CRYSTALLOID FLUID

    The aim of this study is to evaluate the representation of erythrocytes, which is the count of erythrocytes; hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value, and platelet count in piglet (Sus scrofa) after hypovolemic shock with normal and hypervolemia resuscitation of crystalloid fluid. This study uses nine male castrated piglets 6-8 weeks of age. The piglets are given treatments such catheter installation, shock induction, normovolemia resuscitation, and hypervolemia resuscitation. The fluid for resuscitation is crystalloid fluid, NaCl 0.9%. Blood sample is taken in baseline, normovolemia condition, and hypervolemia condition. The sample is analyzed using hematology blood analyzer and is tested using T-Paired. Total erythrocytes count after normovolemia resuscitation is 3.07x106/”L, while after hypervolemia resuscitation the erythrocytes count decrease until 2.86x106/”L. Hemoglobin concentration after normovolemia resuscitation is 9.4 g/dL, while after hypervolemia resuscitation hemoglobin concentration decreases to 8.64 g/dL. Hematocrit count from piglets after normovolemia resuscitation is 28 %, while it decreases after hypervolemia resuscitation to 25.89%. Platelet count after normovolemia resuscitation is 297.22x103/mm3 and decreases to 263.89x103/mm3 after hypervolemia resuscitation. Evaluation of the erythrocytes index shows that the piglets suffer anemia. Hypovolemic shock and normal, and hypervolemia resuscitation cause the significant decreases in all erythrocytes indexes except the platelet count

    Background: Artificial feeding is an effective way to enhance fish production, development and carrying capacity of the culture system to feed the increasing human population. This study was designed to determine and compare the effects of supplementation of basal fish feed with plant (soybean meal) and animal blood as protein sources.Methods: The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized block design. A total of 135 Genetically Improved Farm Tilapia were randomly divided into three groups comprising three replicates and kept in controlled conditions in nine glass aquaria for a period of ninety days. The animals were provided basal diet, plant and animal protein supplemented diets throughout the experiment. Water quality parameters were recorded on a routine basis while growth performance, blood indices and chemical analysis of the body was recorded after ninety days of trial.Results: Overall, water quality parameters remained within the normal range, which highlights those diets had no detrimental effect on the quality of the water and in all groups. However, the fish kept on animal-based protein source diet presented higher growth performance, crude protein and lipids contents, red blood cell count and normal serum ALT, AST, and ALP levels In contrast the fish kept on plant protein diet displayed comparatively lower meat quality and signs of toxicity viz., raised level of hepatic enzymes.Conclusion: From these results, it was concluded that fish fed on diet having blood meal supplementation showed higher performance in comparison to fish groups fed on other diets.Keywords: GIFT; Fish feed; Plant meal; Soybean meal; Animal blood

    Abstract BSOPD, bis(salicylaldehyde) orthophenylenediamine) is investigated as complexing agent in capillary electrophoresis for determination of gold and chromium. BSOPD was chosen as the UVVisible absorbing chelating ligand because of its ability to form stable complexes with metal ions. Both the metal ions can be determined in single run under optimized conditions with run time of 12 minutes including coexisted ions usually present in waste water. Separation was achieved at optimized conditions of 50 mM phosphate buffer as a background electrolyte at pH =3.4, at applied voltage of -10 kV and detection wavelength of 231 nm. Under above mentioned conditions, limit of quantification (0.5 and 10 ”g mL -1 ) and detection limit (0.1667 and 3.33 ”g mL -1 ) were found for Au(III) and Cr(VI), respectively. Linear calibration graphs were obtained 0.5 -50 ”g mL -1 for Au(III) and 10 -60 ”g mL -1 for Cr(VI) with the correlation coefficient value 0.996 and 0.993, respectively. Utility of this method for metal analysis has been investigated by determining gold from wastewater samples of goldsmith factories and chromium in some environmental waters (portable and polluted).The method was validated by comparing results obtained with capillary zone electrophoresis with atomic absorption spectroscopy

    Hepatitis E and Hepatitis A virus both are highly prevalent in Pakistan mainly present as a sporadic disease. The aim of the current study is to isolate and characterized the specific genotype of Hepatitis E virus from water bodies of Faisalabad, Pakistan. Drinking and sewage samples were qualitatively analyzed by using RT-PCR. HEV Genotype 1 strain was recovered from sewage water of Faisalabad. Prevalence of HEV and HAV in sewage water propose the possibility of gradual decline in the protection level of the circulated vaccine in the Pakistani population

    Transient MHD Convective Flow of Fractional Nanofluid between Vertical Plates

    Effects of the uniform transverse magnetic field on the transient free convective flows of a nanofluid with generalized thermal transport between two vertical parallel plates have been analyzed. The fluid temperature is described by a time-fractional differential equation with Caputo derivatives. Closed form of the temperature field is obtained by using the Laplace transform and fractional derivatives of the Wright’s functions. A semi-analytical solution for the velocity field is obtained by using the Laplace transform coupled with the numerical algorithms for the inverse Laplace transform elaborated by Stehfest and Tzou. Effects of the derivative fractional order and physical parameters on the nanofluid flow and heat transfer are graphically investigated

    Structural, Optical, and Renewable Energy-Assisted Photocatalytic Dye Degradation Studies of ZnO, CuZnO, and CoZnO Nanostructures for Wastewater Treatment

    Renewable energy can be harnessed from wastewater, whether from municipalities or industries, but this potential is often ignored. The world generates over 900 km3 of wastewater annually, which is typically treated through energy-consuming processes, despite its potential for energy production. Environmental pollution is a most important and serious issue for all and their adulterations to the aquatic system are very toxic in very low concentrations. Photocatalysis is a prominent approach to eliminating risky elements from the environment. The present study developed Zinc oxide (ZnO), Copper-doped Zinc oxide (CuZnO), and Cobalt-doped Zinc oxide (CoZnO) nanostructures (NSs) by facile hydrothermal route. The crystalline and structural stability of the synthesized nanostructures were evident from XRD and FESEM analysis. Metal, and oxygen bond and their interaction on the surfaces and their valency were explored from XPS spectra. Optical orientations and electron movements were revealed from UV-Visible analysis. After 100 min exposure time with 1 g of catalyst concentration 60%, 70%, and 89% of dye degraded, for dye concentration (5 mg/L to 50 mg/L), the huge variation observed (70% to 22%), (80% to 16%), (94% to 10%). The highest photodegradation rate (55%, 75%, 90%) was observed on pH~12 using ZnO, CoZnO, and CuZnO respectively. Photodegradation of methylene blue confirmed the largest surface area, rate of recombination, photo-excited charge carriers, photo-sensitivity range, and radical generations of ZnO, CuZnO, and CoZnO.
