Operations Research - Contemporary Role in Managerial Decision Making

As the global environment turns out to be furiously focused, Operations Research has picked up criticalness in applications like world-class Manufacturing systems (WCM), Lean generation, and Six-sigma quality administration, Bench marking, Just-in-time (JIT) inventory techniques. The development of worldwide markets and the subsequent increment in rivalry have highlighted the requirement for Operation Research. To survive and lead the todays very focused and request driven market, weight is on administration to settle on conservative choices. One of the key administrative aptitudes is capacity to distribute and use assets fittingly in the endeavors of accomplishing the ideal execution productively. Now and again, for example, little scale low many-sided quality environment; choice in light of instinct with insignificant quantitative premise might be sensibly satisfactory and viable in accomplishing the objective of the association. Be that as it may, for a substantial scale framework, both quantitative and subjective (i.e. instinct, experience, sound judgment) investigations are required to settle on the most practical choices. Utilizing Operations Research techniques including Linear Programming, Discrete Event Simulation and Queuing Theory, association pioneers can settle on top notch choices. Present paper is an endeavor to study the importance of Operation research and different techniques used to improve the operational efficiency of the association

In this paper, we introduce an indefinite LP-Sasakian statistical manifold and study lightlike submanifold of an indefinite LP-Sasakian statistical manifold. We also introduce some relations among induced geometrical objects with respect to dual connections in a lightlike submanifold of an indefinite LP-Sasakian statistical  manifold. One example related to this concept is also presented. Finally, we show that an invariant lightlike submanifold of an indefinite LP-Sasakian  statistical manifold is an indefinite LP-Sasakian statistical manifold.

Portfolio Assessment, Peer Assessment and Writing Skill Improvement

Little research has been conducted in the field of alternative assessment including portfolio and peer assessment in Iran. Moreover, In spite of the assumed advantages of portfolio and peer assessment, the practicality of these techniques needs to be investigated. To this aim, a total of 207 writing papers from 69 participants were collected to investigate the effects of peer and portfolio assessment on the writing components in two experimental groups. The data were collected from students of a general English semester course held at Sharif University of Technology. There were two experimental groups of 37 and 32 students experiencing portfolio and peer assessment respectively. As the treatment, students were supposed to write compositions, and for each composition, they were supposed to invest at least twenty minutes on a topic of interest e.g. sport, science, social issues, etc. And they were then rated by their teacher in group A and their peers in group B based on ten pre-established assessment criteria in each session during the term. After administering the writing post-test, independent t-tests were run to find the differences between the two groups. As the result, it was indicated that portfolio and peer assessment had the same effect on four of the five components of writing namely as content, organization, language use and vocabulary. But only there was a significant difference between portfolio and peer assessment groups on the last component of the study: mechanics in writing. The findings of this study have implications for language teachers, material designers, and educational policy makers

Promoting Maqshid al-Shari'ah and Achieving Sustainable Economic Development: the Potential of Proposed Two Tier Mudarabah Business Model on Cash Waqf

    Get PDF
Islamic microfinance provides an alternative model for a significant number of underprivileged people who are not served by conventional microfinance. In order to give access to sustainable services to a greater extent, the Islamic microfinance is in paramount need of the adoption of innovative business models and sound practices into the industry. To this end, the research seeks to propose two tier mudarabah model based on cash waqf as an alternative to Islamic microfinance institutions. The objectives of the study are: to a) help develop and implement an appropriate business model; b) safeguard the maqasid al-Shari`ah so as to promote the well-being of the people through establishing justice and eliminating hardship; and 2) help make a reform in the present institutional framework for Islamic microfinance and waqf institutions. The study finds that cash waqf based microfinance institutions can play an important role inter alia in financial inclusion and developing socio-economic conditions of the poor and underprivileged people in society

In this paper, we introduce the notion of a bi-slant lightlike submanifold of a golden semi-Riemannian manifold. We provide two examples. We give some characterizations about the geometry of such submanifolds

ABSTRACT We consider a nearly hyperbolic Kenmotsu manifold with a quarter symmetric metric connection and study CRsubmanifolds of a nearly hyperbolic Kenmotsu manifold with quarter symmetric metric connection. We also study parallel distributions on nearly hyperbolic Kenmotsu manifold with quarter symmetric metric connection and find the integrability conditions of some distributions on nearly hyperbolic Kenmotsu manifold with quarter symmetric metric connection

Anticonvulsive Effects of Licofelone on Status Epilepticus Induced by Lithium-pilocarpine in Wistar Rats: a Role for Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Status epilepticus (SE) is a neurological disorder with high prevalence and mortality rates, requiring immediate intervention. Licofelone is a cyclooxygenase (COX) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) inhibitor, which its effectiveness to treat osteoarthritis has been approved. Increasing evidence suggests an involvement of COX and LOX enzymes in epileptic disorders. Thus, in the present study we investigate possible effects of licofelone on prevention and termination of SE. We also evaluated whether the nitrergic system could participate in this effect of licofelone. METHODS: We have utilized lithium-pilocarpine model of SE in adult Wistar rats to assess the potential effect of licofelone on seizure susceptibility. Licofelone was administered 1 h before pilocarpine. To evaluate probable role of nitric oxide (NO) system, L-arginine (60 mg/kg, i.p.), as a NO precursor; L-NAME (15 mg/kg, i.p.), as a non-selective nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor; aminoguanidine (100 mg/kg, i.p.), as an inducible NOS (iNOS) inhibitor and 7-nitroindazole (60 mg/kg, i.p.), as a neuronal NOS inhibitor were injected 15 min before licofelone. Also, licofelone and diazepam 10 mg/kg were administered 30 minutes after onset of SE. RESULTS: Pre-treatment with licofelone at the dosage of 10 mg/kg, significantly prevented the onset of SE in all subjects (p \u3c 0.001). L-arginine significantly inverted this anticonvulsant effect (p \u3c 0.05). However, L-NAME and aminoguanidine, potentiated the anticonvulsant effect of licofelone (p \u3c 0.05, p \u3c 0.01). Licofelone could not terminate seizures after onset which was terminated by diazepam. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed that anticonvulsive effects of licofelone on SE could be mediated by iNOS. Also, we suggest that COX/5-LOX activation is possibly required in the initial stage of onset but SE recruits extra excitatory pathways with prolongation
